  1. I’d never heard of him, but that’s not saying much. After having a quick Google (that’s not a euphemism for something unmentionable on the forum) he seems to have some decent coaching experience. If he joins Rovers, the test will be can he convert this into management
  2. This might have been a cunning plan. Publicise an approach for a well know manger, with zero chance of success, just to keep the fans happy. Then appoint a cheap option.
  3. This is a very sensible post which proves what I’ve always expected - you’re a secret Ted
  4. It’s a sunny day today which is going to adversely affect the attendance. Several thousand will stay home to have a BBQ
  5. I know what TTFN means but that’s because I’m an old stager. I think you need a translation for everyone under 50.
  6. Although LJ and the coaching staff at City are the primary force in deciding who stays to play, and who goes on loan, luckily, we have one man at the top who has the final say over everything. Steve Lansdown has principles and I’m sure he would rather show his backside in Burton's window (with apologies to Gary Johnson) than allow loans to Bristol Rovers
  7. It would be easy to move Santa’s Grotto, but could the Championship ready sprinklers be moved to Nailsworth?
  8. The old thread about rough pubs was hilarious but, I have to ask, why do so many of the OTIB posters frequent these places of ill repute? Isn’t there anyone who pops out for dry sherry in a pub where you can have a quiet discussion about poetry or patchwork quilting?
  9. When Bolton’s performances are shown in a list like this you realise how awful there plight is. It’s an unbelievable set of results
  10. I like Rovers being in 4th place in the league. They are building up expectations for the 6,000 fans that will lead to disappointment when they fall way to mid table.
  11. I think he also managed / owned the Alexander Club at some stage
  12. Stuart Taylor was from a bygone era when players played literally hundreds of games for one, local, club. His longevity, at Rovers, is illustrated by the fact that he started in the team with Ray Mabbutt and finished playing in the team with Ray’s son Gary
  13. There is one sensible comment on their forum: “Must confess, I am slightly wary of what I have been told of the consortium in talks to buy the club.. Seem to have 90% interest in the land at both the Fruit Market and the Memorial Stadium and 10% interest in the actual football”
  14. £25k! I’m sure City signed Alan Walsh from Darlington for £18k
  15. It’s raining today. That must be a good excuse for a low crowd.
  16. This is one of the best summaries of failure I’ve read
  17. In the Gas world, this is called thinking outside the tent
  18. Owned by your grandfather! That’s ruined my day as it makes me realise how old I am. I take consolation from the slogan I saw on a tee shirt - “I may be old but at least I saw all the best bands”
  19. Mods were either Lambretta or Vespa fans. I had a Vespa Sportique which was a strange design as the engine was fitted on one side of the frame and not in the middle. Hardly ideal for stability, but it still got me (same as you) to Weymouth and Torquay many times. The misc chrome mirrors, crash bars and racks were probably worth more than the Vespa. This has nothing to do with Rovers, but it’s more fun than thinking about them and their tent based ground
  20. An Austin Somerset with a column gear change, panoramic sliding roof, acceleration of 0 to 60 eventually and a top speed of approx 70 mph
  21. Do you own an anorak? This is my first car. Do you know what it is?
  22. They’re going to wear it away to Coventry, who play in blue, next week.
  23. Stadium of Blight Field of Beans Marrow Road
