  1. The names that have been suggested in response to this question illustrate something that is probably interesting to younger City fans - ie in the past Rovers sometimes had good teams and sometimes were on a par with City. Today this concept is totally unbelievable
  2. Going back a bit, Alfie Biggs. He was a City fan and wanted to sign for City, as a young player, but the club messed him about and he signed for Rovers instead
  3. Well said Lee. (How’s your dad getting on at Torquay?)
  4. Somebody on Gaschat is not a happy bunny; “Never been a happy clapper, nor one of the boo boys but today was the first time in my 25 -30 years of supporting the gas that I left a game early (in the 70th min mark after the goal)...and Im 38 years old. I was stood there in the blackthrone in a truely sh** stadium, going to the toilet while standing in overflowing piss from the toilets watching awlful, noooooo ******* shocking football. We are heading back to the national league. The progress DC gave our club after 2014 for 2/3 years has been lost and we are a complete mess again. No wonder GC walked!!!! We are safe this year, but we will 100% finish rock bottom of L1 in May 2021. Before anyone calls me un loyal etc..get a grip.My uncle played for us in the 1960s,Ive been a fan for nearly 30 years.Spent £1,000's on watching us both home and away through the years, another £40 today... but now this club is taking the piss!! It will be a long time before Im back supporting blindly with just pure hope until we make proper changes.“
  5. Did you buy a pork pie hat to go with it?
  6. It’s hilarious on GasChat. Not long ago they were talking about promotion. Now it’s about trying to avoid relegation: “If we beat both Tranmere and Southend (and it's a big if) then we will be safe I would imagine“
  7. That’s why they were signed at the last minute. No time to research the ground or the training facilities (lack of). They were just told about the wonderful supporters who are loved by ever other team in the league and who provide fantastic home and away support
  8. As Rovers are making a substantial weekly loss the players wages must currently be funded by Wael & Co. If they want out, the easy thing to do would be to stop playing the wages and the club be in the same situation as Bury. Then Wael would have no club but the Memorial ground which could be sold to help recover some of the debts
  9. The second prize is two Rovers shirts
  10. This sounds like a good plan purely from an investment point of view. They but the fruit market, funding never materialises to build a stadium, so they build houses there instead. As Arthur Daley would say, “a nice little earner”
  11. The trouble was, he wasn’t the messiah, he was just a very naughty boy
  12. Come on Bert, haven’t you got delusions of grandeur suggesting Cheltenham or Forest Green? More likely a ground share with Manor Farm of Mangotsfield.
  13. The attendance for the Rovers v Stevenage match doesn’t seem to have been published anywhere. Did anyone turn up?
  14. I’ve just read, in the Post, that Holloway has bought £100k of shares in Grimsby FC. Is it any wonder he got the job? This must be unique, a manager paying a club money to give him a job. He also has a seat on the board, which means he can vote against any motions to give him the sack.
  15. Exactly. The only connection to Rovers is pulling a name out of a hat. As it says...... “He lives locally in Portishead and, whilst he is not exactly a regular at the Gas, he drew the winners of the club's sponsorship raffle in 2009 when the partnership with Cowlin Construction ended.”
  16. When Grimsby had a fishing fleet, the club used to give a box of fish, as a present, to the visiting team. Not sure of the relevance of this info
  17. I’d never heard of him, but that’s not saying much. After having a quick Google (that’s not a euphemism for something unmentionable on the forum) he seems to have some decent coaching experience. If he joins Rovers, the test will be can he convert this into management
  18. This might have been a cunning plan. Publicise an approach for a well know manger, with zero chance of success, just to keep the fans happy. Then appoint a cheap option.
  19. This is a very sensible post which proves what I’ve always expected - you’re a secret Ted
  20. It’s a sunny day today which is going to adversely affect the attendance. Several thousand will stay home to have a BBQ
  21. I know what TTFN means but that’s because I’m an old stager. I think you need a translation for everyone under 50.
  22. Although LJ and the coaching staff at City are the primary force in deciding who stays to play, and who goes on loan, luckily, we have one man at the top who has the final say over everything. Steve Lansdown has principles and I’m sure he would rather show his backside in Burton's window (with apologies to Gary Johnson) than allow loans to Bristol Rovers
