  1. The voice of reason will get you nowhere on the forum
  2. As it’s illegal to consume alcohol when football is being played, Rovers will be OK, as what they play can’t be described as football in the normal sense of the word
  3. From their forum 5 hours ago: “The lady in the shop said there is a shirt sponsor for next season, but wouldn't say who it is, which is fair enough.. She also said the 2 new "stands" would be going up later in the summer, apparently they come prefabricated and take no time to erect. So there you have it, slow but tangible improvements which can only be good news.” Why, oh why, did Steve Lansdown waste years and £50m on redeveloping Ashton Gate when he could have followed the Rovers’ example and just put up some prefabricated stands?
  4. The new grounds man has been experimenting with a new type of sand based pitch at a secret seaside location. Just a little bit of fine tuning and it will be ready to install at Horfield
  5. The half moon gaps were a result of the holiganism of the era. The logic was it kept supporters slightly farther away from the goal, and thus made it more difficult for them to throw things at the goalkeeper
  6. One thing Rovers used to have at Eastville, that we’ve never had, is flower beds behind the goals. I often think, when I go to City’s modern stadium, that the one thing missing is flower beds. I think SL missed a golden opportunity, regarding flowers, when the ground was redeveloped. We could have had John Otway instead of the Wurzels and a new song - “Beware of the flowers cos I’m sure they’re gonna get you, yeah”
  7. Here he is scoring one of his ten goals against Rovers
  8. I would have been happy with 10th at the beginning of the season as that’s an improvement on recent years. Without wishing to sound like Wael of the Rovers, it’s going to take time to build a good team that can looks like certain promotion contenders. That said, the worrying thing is City’s form this season follows the pattern that LJ has had every season since he started as a manager - i. e. periods of good form followed by a long period of poor form. I’d be happy with some dull consistency for a while. The periods of highs and lows just builds expectations and hopes in the good times.
  9. If you’re in the office, Major, why aren’t you doing any work? Or is the expression “office” just another way of saying the local bar?
  10. It’s difficult to imagine Junior Bent playing football. He definitely ran around a bit but I’m not sure he was actually playing football
  11. 29AR you are a genius as you have rumbled Wael’s cunning plan. He could go for an Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA) which would is a formal and legally-binding agreement between someone and their creditors to pay back debts over a period of time. Not all the creditors have to agree, for the proposal to be accepted. The proposal is accepted if more than 75 per cent (by value) of the creditors who vote or are represented at the meeting vote in favour. It is based on the value of the debts owed. Wael / Dwane Sports could vote for a plan that is terrible for other creditors, assuming that there are any other creditors.
  12. I’d say it’s unlikely. There’s not much spare land going free on the old Brabazon hanger side of the A38 (where the Bristol Arena might go). Most of the site is occupied by Airbus, new offices or land earmarked for housing. The area where houses are due to be built would have to be bought by Rovers at the going rate. As Rovers would need to buy more land for a new stadium than what they currently have, plus the cost of actually building the stadium, this would mean a £30m (?) expenditure just for something basic. The old Rolls-Royce site on the other side of the A38 is currently being filled by industrial units.
  13. That’s nothing. I once won the sack race at primary school. Beat that! neh neh neh neh neh
  14. Nothing like the Dolman. In the cathedral there is somewhere to sit and somewhere to put your drink. They probably sell chips as well
  15. Significant demage caused by burst water pipes! How much does it cost to buy some insulation from B&Q? With all the white plastic chairs Rovers have bought they should get a discount
  16. If it’s closed there will be no need to spend any money on heating and lighting. A jolly good wheeze as every penny helps
  17. Exactly. Neither Walsh or Doiny could have come on today to affect the game in City’s favour. Both may be good first team players in a year or two, but that doesn’t help the push for promotion this season. Where was the full back signing we needed?
  18. Whenever I’m reminded of the old Leeds team of the 70s, I always think of Paul Madeley. What a versatile player, who played in everybody position except goalkeeper. Probably his versatility prevented him gaining more international honours
  19. It’s amazing isn’t it? A local amateur rugby team who get crowds of a hundred or so get an £8m stadium. At the same time a football team, with the 6th richest man in the world as owner, just gets new sprinklers
  20. I think @Rudolf Hucker has posted a reply: “I’ve been dreaming about Dolly Parton for 50 years and that will never happen “
