Cheltenham is certainly not what it was, crowds down and uncompetitive racing

I have my own ideas/reasons for the dwindling crowds, anybody else have any opinions?

I think the crowds are down as the casual race goer won’t pay the prices, of my own group only 4 of us are now attending and that used to be 10 plus. The cost of tickets and the price of beers has made it a day that they don’t think is worth the money. I was in best mate and to be fair it sounded a lot easier to get a beer over there than it did in other parts of the course.
For me, they are going to have to do something about the races so the best horses cant avoid each other, I want to see Lossiemouth for an example in the champion hurdle rather than being able to divert to the mares and race an easier race. Both the champion hurdle and Mares were boring races as the 2 winners literally just had to get round. I know CH pulling out was a pain but I’d still like to have seen a race where the 3 best were in it. It’s also getting harder and harder to have an Ante Post bet due to having no idea where the horses will be running.

They have some issues and need to take them seriously to ensure Cheltenham is still the premier event of the calendar (which it will remain imo), especially as the DRF, Aintree etc are both gaining in popularity.

I 've had a record strike rate all-ready so far, but I find it a bit ....meh, too many odds-on shots and Mullins saturation . The only ones I'm really proud of picking were Chianti Clasico and Captain Guinness, the others I had were simply "buying money" !  Still, it all goes in the bone bag .

The issue is the racing is not even competitive so it’s been boring, the majority of G1s have been a procession. It’s no different in Ireland either, it’s not Irish dominance, it’s Willie Mullins dominance, i can’t remember exact figures, but over the G1s at DRF and chelt, Mullins has won something like 12/14 of them.

Which is the total opposite of what we were told he was here to do. I think that’s everyone’s issue.

Either, he was the wrong man for the (top 6) squad, and shouldn’t have been hired in the first place as he wasn’t the right fit. So they hired the wrong bloke for the ‘new identity we have from first team down to u11s’.

Or, they totally change the squad and ‘new identity we have from first team down to 11s’ for him because it doesn’t suit him, but they have more faith in the manager than the squad, so will let him have oversight on a total overhaul on it over the next probably 2 years.

Whatever scenario they pick, they’ve got it wrong.

But you know as well as i do that what we were told is bullshit, everyone knows this squad wasn’t good enough so you shouldn’t have an issue with Manning about that. Blame Tinnion

Of course I agree that he should be flexible, and get the best out of his players. However he wants us to be a possession based team, we have never been that. In the summer I expect players to come in that can improve us as a possession based team.

Anyway like you say this is the matchday thread I  don't want to keep debating Manning, I said I think we will get a result tonight or at least a battling performance.

They won’t be his players completely though, that’s not how it works. It will be a combination of Tinnion and the analysts players who will feed them in to Manning.

I think I read an article in the last couple of months, which essentially said. Hoofball into and around the box is still more effective that Guardiolaball.

Soon, an unexpected team will do this and win the premier league.

Stan Collymore was saying this last night, he basically said that Burnley, Sheff etc should play a 4-5-1 with 3 rat like central midfielders, 2 flying wingers and a quick striker rather than trying to compete with the Arsenals, Man City’s etc.

If we hadn’t sold Scott and Semenyo there is a good chance we’d be in serious financial trouble right now.

Szmodics was a serious mistake from Ashton, especially in the same summer as Palmer.

Palmer is ‘running the show’ with 1 goal and 2 assists in just over 1000 minutes of championship football.

The ‘prem goalie’ at wolves who people were very nonplussed about seeing leave and has played 4 games in 2 seasons there.

The likes of Reid and Webster were sold for huge figures and have helped the club stay financially viable, we can’t keep everyone.

Marlon Pack’s legs had gone at this level, whatever he’s doing at league one is irrelevant.

It’s easy to bash the club for player sales, when in reality only one of the 8 you mention was a poor sale. The others either weren’t good enough, we’re OOC or we made huge profits off of

Don’t agree one bit about Pack - his legs hadn’t gone, he was fine. It was a weird decision to sell him when we did and was a mistake

System doesn’t suit him whatsoever, we could have Tammy up top and he’d struggle to hit double figures for a season with the way we’re going.

All points towards him being gone by august.

Yep - get as much as you can for him now

    Correctly ruled offside

If it wasn't for the block the Chelsea guy is right there to head it clear

Thats aside of the fact it's a foul too

Not a single Chelsea player appealed, that tells you everything
