You can't sack someone because of their health.

Of course they've dressed it up as he was under performing etc but if it was a consideration in their decision, then thats ******* wrong on some many levels. Especially from a club that likes to promote how much good they do.

Nige seems to be well enough to go for walks on the beach.

You don’t sack them in the traditional way,  (as far as I’m aware) the term of their contract will be paid up, or they continued to be paid until they get re-employed by another club.

I don’t watch it either, so I’m probably no better qualified! But, I guess, being the star player in a national side that’s reached a World Cup final?

You can debate the relative merits of different sports: some would argue that darts or snooker aren’t as worthy of recognition as “proper” sports like football of cricket. But that’s not really the point.

It gives him ammunition, but only ammunition to be nasty. Whatever you think of women’s football, Mary Earps has been successful in her field: more successful than Barton last year, by some distance. Even if you disagree, just be gracious and congratulate a fellow sports person.

Yeah i get what you’re saying, there are seperate arguments really.  Did she deserve a nomination, not in my opinion as i think there are a lot of others out there that are more worthy of the award this year, (and for me it has nothing to do with the fact shes a women as my nomination would have been a different woman) but as she was nominated and won, then your right, just say well done.

We’ll all have different views about who should have won. Barton’s entitled to his, just as you and I are.

But his comments go way beyond that, don’t they? “Women” in that derogatory way. Getting personally offensive. Implied criticism of people who just don’t happen to share his view.

He really is a thoroughly unpleasant individual.

I agree he’s a nasty person and should never talk about anyone the way he does - however, and i appreciate this will be an unpopular view, something like this gives him ammunition imo, what has she done to deserve this award, or even be nominated for it? I will be honest though and say, i don’t watch this program anymore so i could well be missing something.

  4. Give away fans 3k and have safe standing in the corner of the Atyeo for 1000 or so if you want some sort of atmosphere in our ground. Every other club is able to deal with segregation so not sure why we can’t

As a 'Steak House'...I think they are really poor, so I'm not surprised.

People go on about Pasture being the best. I disagree...I've found the Ox in Corn St, much better.

Steaks and other items on menu all quality, and service and ambience much nicer imo.

Worth trying if you haven't. 👍

For once Spud, we are in agreement!

Is there any other road user that is out there for the fun of it rather than trying to get somewhere?

If you want to cycle for lesiure go offroad you slow, wasting my time *****!

Plenty of boy racers are on the road for ‘fun’ and are bigger and more dangerous ****s than any cyclist I’ve ever seen.

im also going to presume you have never seen a horse either

Don't get me wrong, I like Christmas. I like it for having time off work myself, and spending some time with friends and family.

People have lost what the true value of Christmas is by overspending and competing with others to buy the best gifts for their loved ones. It's sad and is slowly losing its meaning year on year.

Xmas is losing its meaning, i saw yesterday that the Morrisons local in Yate will be open until 3pm on Xmas day which i find a bit sad.

I agree...they are awful to ride on. No wonder cyclists with expensive bikes avoid.

I used to join the lanes by Brimsham and head out towards Cromhall. Many cyclists... unfortunately many lorries as well.

I go through those lanes quite a bit, i will always pull in for cars as i got ploughed in to from behind once and the driver left the scene, im convinced when I’m reading some comments about cyclists that some people would have preferred i was killed as would mean one less on the road 😂😂

Cycling on roads to commute I'm on board with. Also like you say, if cycle lanes are provided then use them. I'd actually make it law that cyclists have to use them if provided.

What I'm not on board with...and this comes from me a recent ex cyclist, is the hypocrisy of using the roads built for commuting, for a form of racing.

Lycra clad racers, in groups or clubs, clipped in, going as fast as possible, the majority trying to beat their personal best times on Garmin etc.

Clogging up the road, often ignoring traffic laws. Often being dangerous. They don't want to slow down, don't want to unclip...focussed purely on personal best times.

    No insurance.

As someone who's been there and done it, knows how the community think, then imo it's madness.

The lycra clad will also not use cycle lanes.

Oh...and add Jeremy Vine to that. Worst cyclist in the world.

Tbf, as someone who likes cycling, I’d only not use a cycle path if it was unridable, the ones out of Yate towards Frampton are always rubbish with crap and stones all over them, and i generally ride wide in the road when there are potholes everywhere and i don’t fancy crashing. Blame the useless council for not sorting them.

There are a few places where an event will take place, the road from Parker’s to Cromhall is a TT route where you do try and beat your time, but it’s a straight road with no traffic lights so normal road laws apply to drivers.

Ps - most people I know who cycle are insured

    Re Ipswich.
The following players of theirs rank higher than the same positions as ours :

Tuanzabe, Williams, Davis, Hutchinson, Broadhead, Burns, Clarke.
Harness, Chaplin, Hurst are similar levels.

    Probably quite accurate I’d argue.

Shows they recruited well then and had a squad good enough to keep the momentum going with a solid coach behind them. I’m surprised to see them doing as well as they are (record points for this stage of the season) but they show no signs of slowing down.

I know this is not a true or scientific marker, but if we purely look at value on Transfermkt this says those names are ranked as follows :

Knight - 22nd highest rated midfielder

Dickie - 32nd highest rated centre back

Vyner - 35th highest rated centre back

Sykes - 23rd highest rated right winger

Pring - 26th highest rated left back

As I have caveated, this is not strictly a true marker; but is based on their current perceived value.

But for context, if we’re talking top 6, these players would be considered amongst the best 6 players in the league.

For Pring, is he better than Vinagre, Brandon Williams, Leif Davis, Josh Tymon, Jamal Lewis, Ryan Manning, Sam McCallum to name but a few.

For Dickie & Vyner, are they better than Harwood-Bellis, Faes, Struijk, Bednarek, Soutter, Coady, Holgate, Vestergaard, Rodon, Cabango to name but a few.

For Knight, is he better than Dewsbury-Hall, Sara, Alcaraz; Patino, Downes, Grimes, Kamara, Neil, Wharton, Smallbone, Winks, Ampadu, Ndidi, Travis, Sheaf, Pearson to name but a few.

For Sykes, is he better than Summerville, Wallace, Diangana, Jones, Roberts, Bowler, Lowe, Dolan to name but a few.

In my opinion, the answer to all of the above is no.
Others may have a different opinion. But I’m hugely convinced and supremely confident that none of those you mention are in the top 6 bracket of best players in this league.

Be interesting to see how the Ipswich team fairs on that list. I think we need 4 players who will come and play the majority of the games, starters, not squad players.

The Easy Answer is NO: The squad is far too small for Championship football and made up of young lads who are not championship standard (Yet) They should be out on loan not sitting on the bench never getting gametime it could be harming their careers They are just being used to make up the numbers I believe we need 3 or 4 Championship quality players brought in in Jan (but thats never going to happen) 1 Big Target Man Striker 1 fox in the box Striker 1 Hard Man Midfielder and 1 Creative goal scoring midfielder

And that will cost serious ££££, so do we need to go down the loan route?

I think what you have to remember is Nige was an anomaly in the amount he played academy players, and this was undoubtedly driven in part by circumstance. We gave the most minutes to academy players in the top two leagues so even maintaining that (noting that ability coming through isn’t always consistent) would be difficult.

Thats not to say Manning wouldn’t give a Scott a chance but he may not play a Kadji or an Omar Taylor-Clarke. And in a lot of ways that’s natural as finances improve - you can take less of a “punt” on academy players as you have money to get in proven.

Dont get me wrong - the point that he’s not brought through Academy to date is concerning, and this measure makes it less likely that more will make the breakthrough in the short term. The key for me is how this develops and if we’re sat here start of next season with pathway still seemingly blocked then I think there are questions to be asked over Tinnions statements or Mannings intent.

Mannings main job is to keep himself in a job for the next 2 years. If I’m a manager of a championship club and I’m given funds then im going after the experienced Pro to sign and the only way an academy player plays is if they are 100% good enough.  It ultimately did NP no favours by using our academy players.
