A few weeks ago I jokingly posted about ARRRSE (Alton Road Residents Resisting Stadium Enlargement) just for a bit of fun.

But it's actually now come to pass that there is a group of articulate and motivated local residents which is determined to make sure the Council follow the planning regulations to the letter of the law. These people are mainly non-political and not connected to the Green Party so Rovers trying to shove all the blame in that direction is another howler which will more than likely backfire.

I would imagine that the vast majority of residents are not Greens round them parts. More likely liberals(with a small l), lawyers, doctors, tech types etc... those who can write without lined paper, work out acronyms, add up to 12 in their own head, read a letter with more than 8 lines etc.... The sort of folk that don't hang around the blue few unless it's for business purposes - legal aid, clap clinic, personal device investigation, interbreeding genetic research etc...

Great news that the stand is finally going up. Club are probably aiming to get the southwest section completed first so that they can seat all the season ticket holders that have to be moved to other parts of the ground. Everbody, Councillors and staff at BCC have supported the application except the Greens, so it is very likely the application is now going to go through so the club might as well get on and start the work. Greens and nymbies futile effort to delay the application is just that, I have dealt with thousands of consultations on the environmental aspect of applications and comments made by the Greens and nymbies are spurious, petty and in some cases untrue. Some still think that the club should hold back on the construction because planning laws may have been broken, but the planning department have broken every statutory law on the timeline of the application. Hopefully Edwards will see sense and withdraw her requst for the application to go to committee and we can enjoy the first major stand to be built at a Rovers ground by the club in most of our lifetimes sooner than later.

So they've started building a stand.

Just imagine if they were building a stand without any planning permission to do so, just imagine...

It would appear that this "state of the art" design is known to the blue few. Herewith, the Rovers' contribution to Twerton (on the left in a similar position to the current Meccano site at Horefield!).

Just sat down to watch Golf life with tubes from soccer AM. Who’s his guest this week. Joey ******* Barton. Oh and he’s already touched on the blue half of Bristol

Not one of the best, Barton's advice on several holes was bollocks, especially the third! Big push for his pay site...to keep out the knockers.... Lots of council estate references..I come from a family of roofers, poor but honest ????, murder story...no wife beating tales...

  5. As a product women’s football is in its infancy. Taking gender politic out of the equation - it’s lacks the skill levels and complexity of the men’s game and needs investment at grass roots level. Comparative gender standards in Tennis, golf, hockey, athletics, cycling, rowing, sailing, swimming and rugby are much higher…in my opinion….I’m afraid the pay issue is a product of delusional hype, ignorance and non-sporting agendas

Funnily enough we went out to Seaburn on the Sunday after the Sunderland game last season, and someone rocked up on this.

Maybe @adamski had ridden all the way? :)

Alas no, I was still recharging my sedan chair at Leicester Forest East and attempting to pay with turnips.

Thanks very much, and once again thanks to all who have done the survey.

It's ironic that the Green Party and local NIMBYS are trying to claim that it's not an appropriate site, and yet it couldn't be "greener" or more sustainable. As well as being next to Oxford Parkway Station, two large Park & Rides, the A34 dual carriageway, and a myriad of local bus routes, the aim is to make it the most sustainable stadium in the country, with rainwater harvesting, living, or grass roof to part of it, solar panels to the rest, five times more accessible parking spaces than the regulation demands, and 400 cycle spaces on site, with the aim of eventually having 90% of all fans travelling by sustainable means.

Personally I just want a home of our own, without a bloody great stand missing, and with all of the income from the stadium going to the club (which is not the case now). It is apparently not going to be a standard wrap around bowl, but will have a bit of individuality about it, which I think is great. It's the same architects as Brentford new stadium, and I love what they've done there.

At the risk of repeating myself, thanks again everyone. Please tell me when I've become boring and repetitive, and I'll bugger off and stop bothering you!!!

Growing up around Kidlington and knowing the area I find it amazing that the NIMBYs are kicking off about this, when they are happy for North Oxford Golf course to be built on...if that little bit of land belonged to one of the university colleges and they wanted a ground you could bet your last cent they'd have it built by now..Good spot for a stadium very sensible plan for all points, unless you are buying a new house on the golf course or live on the periphery of Garden City!!!!

No arguement, proven elsewhere that is saves money to the club

People need to evolve with change and not be so afraid of it

Interesting, so not having a mobile phone is a refusing to evolve and an indicator of fear.... so, using your logic the same must apply to people that don't own a car, TV, PC, digital watch etc.

Agree with you there mate I was referring to the "I've always had one and want another one" brigade

Which given the price they pay, one might argue they were entitled to some form of plastic token instead of a digital image. It's not like it effects the entry system- there's an argument that people faffing about with their phones will cause far more disruption. Is this about technology or saving money?

Apparently the show is in the top 3% watched shows in the US.

Just found an interesting site, this from September 2022.

FOR THE PERIOD 24TH AUGUST TO 20TH SEPTEMBER INCLUSIVE
During the period, the followers of the Club’s social media have increased by 19.2%
The Club’s retail website has seen 185,289 new visitors during the period, who have made a total of 3543 orders at a combined value of £290,170.
These amazing results do not include sales from the Club shop. When these sales are combined with the above, the receipts for the period increased to £360,000.
By comparison the combined receipts for the equivalent period, 12 months earlier, were £59,674.

Rob McElhenney = genius, Wrexham will have a bigger worldwide support than any club if the programme runs for another couple of seasons.

  12. I think we are doing them a disservice, as you can see, this has been in the planning stage for some considerable time, as was identified by a plucky poster earlier in the thread. The prototype (pictured) proved very popular and cost effective. Now that timber, PVC corrugated sheet and 100mm nail stocks have stabilised post COVID, supplies can be secured, North Bristol handymen employed the master plan actioned. The wooden construction will show what an eco friendly and go-ahead club they really are and put one over local rivals Forest Green Rovers!

  13. That's a real shame, such a nice guy, more importantly he was not, like many local sports journalists, a nodding dog to the powers that be, always polite, but never afraid to keep plugging away to get his questions answered. He was also not afraid to answer questions. His integrity is why he is respected by all sides in Bristol

Thanks Geoff, a man who recognised that Gary Stanley's main attribute was his hair and was happy to discuss live on air!

  14. I have a full set of the Esso world cup 70 coins, FA cup centenary coins and, I think a set of plastic statue busts (no, don't) of another squad, but cannot remember the fuel company....then came the glasses/tumblers, killed the joy of visiting the petrol station. All in good nick, but they did used to rust and did not work in ciggy machines, 10 number 10 anyone?

  15. Mehmeti (one T, no sugar love - ta) is a really exciting buy, however, speaking of purchases, the yang to his ying, is somewhat worrying and reminiscent of a very tanned gent who once wore the shirt - A Jones in Grealish clothing?
