It’s been this way ever since the rebuild unfortunately.
The concourse offers food, drink and a TV to watch the game.
I know fans who spend most of the game on the concourse, just having a few beers and watching it on the tele!
Loads of fans watch the first 25 mins or so and then retire to the concourse for the rest of the match.
The very fact that the game is being shown on the TV’s draws fans to the area.
I guess City can’t have it both ways. Either keep everyone inside the stadium and engender 90 minutes of support, or put the game on the tv in the concourse and take loads of extra revenue on food and drink.
The concourse enables City to maximise revenue at the expense of the physical support. It’s the way they want it.

Newport, of course, do not have a concourse for loads of fans to piss off to when they get bored and fancy a pint instead.
The emptying of Section 82 and other areas is 100% down to the convenience of the concourse.

Agree mate, but they were still supporting their side post 80 minutes and were 2 nil down. Like all fans they do enjoy a half time beer / pie but return to their seats ?

  2. I was at Newport v Crawley today reporting on a 'bottom half of the table' League 2 fixture.

Newport were losing 2 nil until the 83rd minute. No fans left, they were still 'on side', singing and supporting their club....

They roared on their team, no booing, no moaning and celebrated 2 goals in the last 10 minutes to earn a draw.

It got me thinking, our fans may have been heading to their cars on 80 mins?

Respect to the fans at Newport today?

I know we have much higher expectations but it makes you think how lucky we are?

I thought Max was outstanding v Coventry. I haven’t seen a City keeper catch so many crosses in a very long while. He is growing in stature and Bajic has a very long way to go to replace him.
    Well done Max.

I cover the U21's regularly. Bajic is no where near the 1st team imo.....

I suspect football manager is the source of some of these!

@Tomofirstly, salary info isn’t in the public domain, so anything these types of website list can’t be taken as being correct.

Some might be a good estimate, because something was leaked at the time of signing, but most will be guesswork, educated guesswork in some cases…and some will be wildly out.  But these sites are also not up to date.  The same sites had Danny Simpson on £18k p.w. last season.

Don’t forget a lot of contracts these days (and in the past too) will be based on a basic salary plus a series of add-ons, mainly appearance based, but not forgetting annual contract bonuses, or even increases based on targets hit.

So, although we can all guess at wages, they are just that….guesses.

Even Kasey Palmer who said in a court of law that he was on £110k p.m (not p.w) when at Chelsea, didn’t necessarily mean when he signed for us he was on that here.  We may have offered him less, but 4 year deal sweetened it, or we paid him a signing in fee.

Yep all guess work Fevs.... I wouldn't expect Naismith to be on 15k per week imho. He came from Luton. Possibly on 8k to 10k though.... ?

  5. Sit in 3rd place and have lost more games than us!

12 defeats, no draws, 13 wins!

In fact only Huddersfield and Wigan have lost more, who are currently in the bottom 3.

Blackburn's goal difference is just '2 better' than ours - the championship is a crazy league folks!

My 11 year old son and his friend want a city away kit for Christmas, but they are out of stock in the club shop.

I phoned this morning asking when they will be back in the shop.

    The answer was "they won't!"

No chance of finding any in my local sports direct! I find it incredible.

Surely some more can be made!

Be easier to get a dukla prague away strip at this rate

    Embarrassing for the club imo...

  7. The Change of Manager debate always cracks me up. The average manager, averages around a 40% win ratio. Any other manager would be in a top flight job,

I'm afraid to say that any change of manager at Bristol City, will result in appointing a similar %age winning manager. I can't argue with NP's stats at Bristol City - they are poor, but look at what he is working with at the moment. If the board keep him or sack him, I will be right behind the 40 per-center at our club.

Pearson hasn’t brought through academy players, he’s had no choice and a bit of luck that a couple were decent.

The same as when LJ got a stroke of luck that Bobby was a striker, people wouldn’t credit him with a masterstroke.

Michael Duff, he’s done a great job at Cheltenham with no money and is now doing well this season with Barnsley, would cost much to prize him away from there.

Chris Wilder, proven in the championship. Free agent. Sheff U probably best team I’ve seen in championship under him with the overlapping CBs

Lee Bowyer, did a fantastic job at Birmingham under much much worse conditions than we have at AG currently.

I don’t know who'd I’d want but there are candidates out there.

    Bowyer Stats - 216    81    53    82    37.5%
    Duff Stats - 225    93    63    69    41.3%
    Wilder - 979    426    233    320    43.5%
    Pearson - 581    228    155    198    39.24%

Not a huge amount in that, but worth noting Bowyer, Duff and Wilder's total games are at a lower level compared to Mr Pearson

  9. Let's be clear,

Would Nigel Pearson realistically want to sign Klose (too old), Wilson (league 2 player), Sykes (league 1 player), 3 examples of players he has purchased....

Atkinson, again came from a lower league, not ideal, but what we could afford, same as Tanner.

James clearly knows Pearson from the past, so Nige trusts him. King is a dressing room influence, and signed on the back of the Leicester days and Pearson was probably trying to lean on some old experience to get some leadership in the squad.

Pearson has brought in players on the budget we have and trying hard to improve the side, but most are either older players or a level below. Massive changes in the Summer. I can't see a change of manager helping our current situation. Just my opinion.

    Or we get relegated.

Im always behind the team every week wanting us to win but travelling to watch some of the football I’ve witnessed this year would suggest survival might not be that simple.

    “Our situation”

Like many championship clubs that have done the same isn’t great. But we are not the only ones, nobody knows the exact details just that it’s financially bleak along with 6/7 other clubs.

The official ones have the year on them. And looking at the Product Details, I would possibly suggest the seller isn't flogging those with a straight bat, that would have been a perfect place to say where the funds were going.

I wasn't even aware of this shop..... Some half decent stuff available ?

Never let it be said that we are wholly negative on this podcast after arch-critic Ian Gay came up with the quote in the title of our latest episode which you can listen to here or on Spotify, Google or Apple: https://foreverbristolcity.podbean.com/e/sheff-utd-h-the-verdict-sheffield-steal-spoils/

In this topsy turvy division I guess anything is possible but Ian's positive view is surely a minority one?

DaveP hosts Neil, Ian & Mark in discussing how City played well again but again failed to be rewarded for their efforts.

Another sloppy goal conceded, a misfiring forward line but the woodwork hit twice and Alex Scott perhaps back to his best.

Disgraceful performance from ref in 2nd half and shithousery from Sheffield of the highest order although, as Ian put it, is game management when we do it!

We remain a work in progress but should we be looking over our shoulders at the chasing pack whilst still believing a play off place is still there for the taking.

We look forward to the 3 games before the World Cup break and, assuming everyone is fit in December how should Kal Naismith be accommodated as "reliable defender" he is not

Dave - I'm surprised you didn't title this particular pod 'shithousery' - it was a bit overkill!!

I've seen us 5 times, 4 defeats and a 0-0 draw, 1 goal scored. Apart from a decent run and ball in where we hit the bar tonight, 50/50 crosses is about all I've seen in the final third. Decent effort, but it's not decent football in the final third. Results will not come if that's all we have about us. All the praised effort in the world doesn't hide the fact that a very poor Sheffield United have walked away with 3 points.

A very poor side in Sheffield United who are sitting pretty in 3rd place. That's the Championship for you ?

  14. It's worrying, but..... I'm fully behind NP but a few of my friends (armchair supporters this season) are in the NP out brigade.

Friend Comment: We're definitely playing better this season and more entertaining. However we are not mid table. Looking at the games in hand true position is 20th. Pearson currently averaging a worse points per game after 19 games than last season. He's the master of illusion. 1.16 points versus 1.19 last season. Keep that up we're on 53 points. 2 wins in last 11 games. It's going to be close if that's enough points.

My response: Stats are Stats mate and I can't argue with them. The difference this season, is we have purpose and I do believe we will be mid to lower come May rather than in a relegation battle ????

I hope I am right and he is wrong. I firmly believe that NP will get us going, especially with all the players leaving in the summer. This season, let's hope we can finish somewhere around 14th. ?

  15. As some of you may know, apart from me supporting the reds since 1977 (now aged 51!) and being a long term season ticket holder, I also work as a Football Data Analyst and apart from covering City, when reporting, I have the unfortunate task of visiting the memorial stadium, FGR, Chelts, Swindle, Newport, Cardiff etc etc. The referee tonight showed inconsistencies (but they all do at this level) and for the Williams challenge, I reported a yellow and red card risk, as I did for Tanner's challenge at the end of the game. Whilst my view was further away, in 'real time' for the Williams assault, it looked as naughty as Tanner's challenge, if not worse. I will look back at the challenges in slow motion tomorrow and report back to the company who employ my services!.

We all know that VAR in the championship is not too far away. It's now being used in the Scottish Prem, so it is certainly on the English Football Tier 2 radar. In the meantime, it's good to chat about all officials making mistakes in the pub afterwards before we inevitably start complaining about VAR decisions - all the EPL supporters are doing it, so we will join those debates sooner, rather than later. I think VAR will come in 24/25 for EFL Championship, or even maybe next season?

  16. Have to stick with Nige imo.... Whilst he's not walking the walk atm, he's the right man to see us progress. Other than a horrid relegation battle this season, I believe he has all the current players, staff and hierarchy on side. ??‍♂️ So stick rather than twist.

Big changes will come in the summer, extend his contract and lets start looking at us achieving top 10 finishes with a better chance of getting to the prem in the next 3 seasons. ??‍♂️
