If we're "shit" what does that make the 14 teams below us? We're a mid table side in mid table. Peaks and troughs inevitable over a 46 game season, and we're currently in a fairly minor trough.

Think I'll be giving OTIB a miss for the rest of the evening, the inevitable overreactions and complete absence of perspective are going to drive me nuts.

    Big mistake Chippenham.

Applying common sense and rational thinking in the same post - you know that's not allowed.:)

    Good day everyone,

This is without doubt the saddest match day thread I have ever written. I have no possibility to even begin to study and research our opposition this evening. Clearly you will all ask why that should be.

Yesterday at 0730 UK time my 95 year old father died.

Dad was a Burma RAF veteran who served as a Corporal Radio operator directing the Bristol Beaufighters in to bomb the Japanese positions in what ultimately became the longest battle of the Second World War; The Imphal Kohima campaign. Relatively little was written about this long struggle yet the victory that ultimately followed turned the tide of the war in Asia. My father, although one might consider had a great innings, was taken a little before I wanted him to go. He also wanted that letter from the Queen and I wanted to write his memoirs.

He was a life long Bristol City fan. Let us win tonight and win promotion for him, for Gerry Gow for all those who will not see the promised land again.

God bless everyone and god bless my Dad. I miss him too much already; back to Blighty it is for me next week and I shall watch a City match as a result entirely in his honour.

    Love to all.

    Rich.

    Condensed version.

Very sad news . Match day thread of no importance.

    Condolences Rich.

Am I the only one that fears the worst? It's not that Cardiff aren't beatable - they very much are - it's just I can't see the Bristol City I know and love winning 5 games in a row! I would be reasonably happy with a point. A win and I would be ecstatic.

    No you're not.

It's a Sod's Law game. How many times in the past have we been on the end of a new manager bounce for the opposition?

It's Warnock's first in charge so you can bet he will have them fired up and that he will get their crowd up for this one ( as if they need much help in that respect!)

A Cardiff goal early on and we could have a backs to the wall excercise to hold on.

We need to be on it from the start I reckon, but if we can subdue them for 15-20 minutes then it could gooier way.

Agree with that. We seem only manage one good half each game. Got to be honest, did not remotely understand our starting eleven, (Freeman scores his first in like forever and is then rested), but even then we are making mid table sides look average, and still winning.

I do think LJ is over thinking it sometimes, but heck, getting the points on the board early.

    LJ is quite clever.

He sends his team out expecting us to be behind at half time. That way he can make substitutions to change the game second half, making him look a tactical genius.

    It's a very cunning plan.

Great MD thread again H , Thank you .

I would take issue with your comment that the names were like a who's who from the era , in fact Clough moulded a team of mostly journeymen , cast offs and non-league players into Champions .

Peter Shilton and Francis were the only marquée signings and if I recall correctly the latter was only signed after they'd got promoted to the First Divi

osion , albeit they broke the British transfer Record to land him , the first million pound player .

    Quite right Major.

That they became household names is down to Clough making a group of mainly journeymen into an all conquering team.

Doubt we will the like again.
