Ben De Cock.  We all heard it.

Barney looks alright though, albeit against pretty average opposition

Steady game, never looked in trouble, I hope he goes deep into the competition, I’ve always liked watching him.

(It’s actually Ben de Kok, but still suitable for schoolboy humour)

Mardle's a joke. Kept referring to Fallon as Sharrock not Sherrock. Sky's top commentator as well

Hence my invention of a new word to describe him…….

I do wonder why Taylor has never got involved as a pundit or commentator.  No matter what anyones personal opinion of him, his opinion on darts matches would surely carry more weight than the failed Mardle.

  3. Oh well, that’s my dream of seeing her knock Price out over…..

She just lost a bit of consistency and @TomF I must admit I haven’t really been riled by Wardle before, but that was annoying and embarrassing, so maybe I’ll join your anti-Wardle campaign!

Wardle being a new word - To Wardle - spout bollocks

I think he wants that 8th title and had he got it last Sunday that would have been it.   Maybe F1 realise that alongside Max he is still a major draw and they want him along bit longer.

If Mercedes & Red Bull are up at the top again next season then I think he'll have a better chance with Russell alongside him.

It’ll be interesting to see how much RB develop the 2nd car for Perez, apparently the RB 2nd drivers have had to ‘make do’ with a generic car, with just minor tweaks to suit them, whereas Max’s car is totally bespoke to him.  Maybe if Perez’s 2022 car is developed around him, he may have a say.

Russell has a big step up to make, hopefully the rules and application of them get sorted and we can get back to racing next year, just hoping no one team has got a huge technological step above the others, as whilst that’s all part of the sport, a dominant car does tend to become boring.

Absolutely, he did the press etc and showed huge composure and dignity, top man . I’d have been boiling mad ,and he probably was ,but handled it better than I could’ve done ..fair play to him

I’ve never been a fan of Hamilton, in the past he has come across as petulant and spoilt, but I will, say, he seems to have matured and mellowed, he must have been devastated and livid, anyone would have been, so I must say he has gone up in my estimation.

Question is now, will he race next year?

We could also talk about the farce of Spa this year and safety cars

I think the FIA and the teams need to get to gather over the winter and thrash out a set of rules so that a situation like this never happens again.  Maybe if there is a accident that requires car recovery within the last - say 8 laps- it should be an immediate red flag and restart.  Either that or the gap between the cars before the safety car came out has to be maintained, shouldn’t be impossible given the technology available.

Yep, if F1 - and it appears they have - can convince themselves that the end of that race is what should be expected, with a crash 5 or so laps from the end, then think they’ll have a serious credibility issue. Hamilton was on the same tyres (a few laps older due to Verstappen getting a cheap pitstop during the virtual safety car) as MV, with an 11/12 second lead before the safety car. At the end of the safety car, due to no great/terrible driving or dubious tactics by either, MV was on new soft tyres and right behind LH, but with no sign of Sainz being allowed to be in MV’s rear view mirrors, due to Masi picking and choosing who he let through. A massive net loss for LH that had nothing to do with the performance of him or MV and well beyond luck/racing incident/“let them race”.

Think Mercedes need to push the appeal to the limit to try and sort things out for next season if nothing else, as based on today, no one can have a clue what rules will be applied when in future.

Safety cars are part and parcel, it appears this one was cocked up, but it realistically affected the placings lower down the order.  Silverstone 2 years ago…..

  8. One loser here, F1.  Myself and Mrs Maesknoll have been following F1 for years, she is a Hamilton fan, I never really had a Driver I followed, but was at Barcelona when Verstappen won his first GP - followed his career and wanted him to win the Championship since then.

Today, he was unable to keep pace with Hamilton’s car, doubt there is much between them in driving ability, Mercedes have really sorted their car in the last few races, I thought it was over.  The Drivers have done nothing wrong, the FIA and Micheal Massi have potentially undone a lot of the good work in garnering interest and new support for F1, terrible way to end the season, not sure what the outcome can be now, maybe voiding the race is one option, Max keeps his title, even Mrs M the Hamilton fan thinks the result shouldn’t be overturned and she is talking about not following the sport anymore, after many years.

Difference is that was in a sporting context whereas that two lap procession  was a cynical exercise. Although if countback then goes to who has the most second places i assume Max would win then

Add in Bottas taking him out (totally unintentionally, I’m not suggesting otherwise), two races of 0 points where he would have had a win and probably a second at least.

There’s not much point in the fencing and points scoring, as we’ll have to agree to disagree, but in my opinion, yet another season of Hamilton winning the title by circa 80 points would have once again diminished the appeal of F1, this season has sparked interest and has proven that it’s not a procession.

The technical dominance of Mercedes has been impressive, but any dominance that goes on too long isn’t good for a sport (unless of course City have a 10 year run winning the Prem and the Champions League…. ?)

  10. Just listening to R5 Ellis and John, something they have brought up, what a shame we haven’t got Murray Walker commentating on this race, it would be fantastic.

Anyway, rivalry aside, I am hoping for a good clean race and I just want to see it settled without a controversial incident.

Oh ok, so you’re happy to peddle lies whilst accusing the Sags of peddling lies - that makes sense ... ??

it’s a piss taking banter thread, does humour and ridicule have to be above all scrutiny?  Lighten up.  It’s all part of the ridicule in response to the nonsense that they keep peddling by their ridiculous claims on support numbers etc.

Cheers for the reply but people have definitely been saying that recently - check out the match day comments galore this season: “Have Rovers had their weekly penalty yet?” - “Has the standard red card for Rovers’ opponents been shown yet?” etc etc etc - it is funny, but it’s just not true - anyway, time to bask in their home defeat vs Darrell ... ??????

You’re banging a lone drum, who says it has to be true, in fact when have the sags ever let truth get in the way of anything, so why should we do so when referring to their shambolic, disgrace of a football club on a thread dedicated to ripping the piss out of them.

It's the offside rule, or the current interpretation of it, that needs changing. A review of how it's judged for example, I think it should be just at foot level, or going back to the old "clear daylight' rule.

For me it should be the clear daylight rule, makes most sense and is the easiest to judge.
