Cannot understate how much of a loss this is to BS3. Really bad news.
Not been for quite a few years since I moved out of BS3, but was a regular when I did live there, shame to see it going, might have to try and get in for a nostalgic meal.

As interesting and useful as the best restaurant thread is, is there a place for a thread that covers not so glowing reviews.
For probably 40 years I have occasionally been to the Raj in King St. and always found it OK, haven’t been for several years.
Had a colleague down from London the last couple of days and we had a few beers in the Cornubia (great pub), then round to King St, Old Duke and we wanted to round off with a curry. Went down the stairs to the Raj and should probably have realised, it’s quite looking quite tired now and could do with a bit of a refurb. The menus were not plastic coated or in a folder, so they were a bit worn and didn’t present a great impression.
The food on offer was pretty bog standard Bangladeshi ‘Indian’ restaurant menu and whilst my mate thought his was OK, mine was just sharp with heat, rather than a nice spicing (and I like it pretty hot, but hot with flavour, not just heaped with chilli powder). I won’t be rushing back.
No draught beer either, so bottled Kingfisher was the main option. I will say, it was cheap, so maybe that’s it’s market now?

To be honest, I think they`ve all lasted a lot longer than most of us expected them to.
Not really sure how Shane is outlasting them………..

Anyone watching the cricket just starting on BBC2, no pyro no party! So much coloured smoke you can't see across the pitch. All fully legal of course, as they have been let off by the organisers. Same effect on anyone with breathing difficulties in the crowd I would imagine?
Yep, plenty of smoke. Personally I like to see flares and smoke at a game, but I get the clubs position if their safety licence is at risk, or if they will be faced with fines and/or other sanctions.

Welcome mate. Enjoy the ups and downs of supporting this great club.
Bloody optimists, the downs far outweigh the ups, following City has certainly meant my consumption of alcohol has far exceeded government guidelines….. on occasion a very rare celebration, but more often sorrow drowning…..

I'm being told that it is possible to get there by train after all??
I wouldn’t risk it, train services will be liable to be cancelled at very short notice.

Sad news indeed, my first experience of Stoney would be 40 or so years ago, when he compered a Gentleman’s evening in The Raymend Hotel, near Victoria Park. Our paths crossed many times since then, at football and in various watering holes in Bristol, often had a chat with him as I bumped into him around Whitchurch.
I recall the Black Lion (Maesknoll Toby Carvery) had many pictures of Stoney’s film appearances and TV clips, a huge character who has touched many peoples hearts and will be sadly missed.
Condolences to Stoney’s family.

No, the thread has somewhat gone off on a tangent.

In the office today and its absolute air-con bliss, I am actually tempted to kip in here tonight. I went outside just now and the heat hits you like a brick, its very noticeable compared to 'normal' summer days
It’s just like landing in India and stepping off the plane…. Lovely. Give it 3 or 4 months and all those moaning it’s too hot will be moaning it’s too cold and they can’t afford to put the heating on. The weather takes up an inordinate amount of this countries time.

Not a fan of either rap or the PSB, but wanted to watch the last night, so stuck with the PSB, great set.
Reminds me of a festival I went to where UB40 headlined the Thursday night, again wasn’t interested to start with, but they were brilliant, festivals definitely introduce to music you wouldn’t normally listen too.

I’m certainly not a Hamilton fan, but I wouldn’t want to see him end his career because the car design makes it impossible for him to put up with the pain inflicted by the design.
Interesting there was a lot of concern for the Ferrari reliability after Sundays race, when Verstappen and Leclerc have 2 technical DNF’s each. Long way to go yet, some of these cars may well develop more issues with reliability due to the porpoising you can only insulate components from excessive vibration so much.

It does make me sad when I see a pub converted to a supermarket or flats, or ripped out and renovated.
I used to go hang out in Bath (late 80s - early 00s) and most of the pubs in the city centre then, were scruffy with their own unique character. It's a real shame that particular vibe has disappeared. *Many of those pubs have been "Farrow & Balled" with their dark wood panelling painted cream and turned into a gastropub.
*Apart from The Bell in Walcot Street, of course.
The Old Green Tree still survives as a ‘proper’ pub.
