The negatives far outweigh the positives.

If you are referring to SL's time in charge overall I don't think you could be more wrong.

You have @Barrs Court Red 's list a few posts up, all things that have happened over the last 21 years as a result of multiple (mainly business) decisions that have been made by SL.

Your list on the OP is a list of individual decisions that were either obvious mistakes at the time or turned out to be mistakes with hindsight, but I do not believe for a second any of them were made with anything but the best intentions for the club. There are also some things listed that are either debatable or simply wrong.

Overall though, the positives have to outweigh the negatives simply because the club is in a better position now than when he took over.

Of course you can point to clubs that have overtaken us in that time, but the fact that our average league position these days is higher than it was then means there are a larger number of clubs that we have overtaken ourselves.

Things aren't great right now, but in my opinion they are nowhere near as bad as the overwhelming mood in here seems to be. We are frustratingly inconsistent, and certainly poor at breaking obstinate sides down, but we are also capable of being very good on our day and Manning may yet find the key to that happening on a more regular basis albeit a poor run to the end of the season would see him sacked I would think.

Like most things to do with BCFC, the website was done on the cheap and they won’t pay the going rate to get qualified people to make the website engaging. Gone downhill ever since Beanhead left IMO.

Saw him being interviewed on Points West the other day, lord knows why Points West was on though.

    Actually it’s bollocks.

Robins was 33 when he was on loan to us, Rotherham tried to get us to pay an increased fee & when we refused they recalled him.

After his time with us he only scored 4 more goals in his whole playing career.

I know there would have been loads saying at the time (probably you) why did we sign a player on the way down as a result.

I really can’t believe we are debating a player we didn’t sign in 2003 again, FFS.

I was also under the impression that Robins was, and has been for a while, SL's #1 choice for the manager job here.

It seems every time the search for a new manager begins, until recently at least, somebody on here always complains that he is about to approach Robins and they hope we don't get him.

I’ll clarify, I’m meaning when people say var like you would say car but with a v. That’s the bit I’m objecting to.

Exactly, that is exactly what an acronym is, taking the initials if something and creating a word with them. It seems perfectly valid to me!

When you just say the letters (as in R.I.P.) that is an initialisation.

  5. 14 minutes ago, Dollymarie said:

But it’s not though is it? It stands for video assistant referee? :)

Exactly, and a word made from the initials would be an acronym, and a valid word once it is in general use.

Radar and scuba are good examples.

(RAdio Direction And Range, Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus)

R.I.P. wouldn't work as rip is a word with a different meaning already.

People who write or say RIP, when what they should be writing/saying is R.I.P.

This also applies to people who say “VAR” like it’s a word, when they should be spelling it out, as it’s three separate words.

    Agreed on R.I.P.

VAR is an acronym so is a word in it's own right, though maybe it should be Var rather than capitalised.

I also recall get your name on your seat in the Dolman.

They then managed to spell my first name wrong (who the **** spells it “Grahame”?) & replaced the seats anyway about 2 years later.

    Got to love this club.

Names are still there in the Atyeo.....

Who else could they put on apart from Manning and Tinnion?

    They've sacked everyone else.

I suppose we should be grateful that it isn't just both Lansdowns.

I would have thought a montage of the current squad would be the most appropriate. That could go for every season!

  9. I visit the footbasll side of this forum with a heavy heart these days, just because the overall mood on here is so damned negative and a million miles away from what I experience at the ground. Things aren't perfect but, in general, the change of manager was met with understanding, and the mood is still one of support for the team and manager despite the last few results. If you only read on here though, you would think we are at our lowest ebb for many a year with a board intent on destroying the club.

With this ST launch though, I can't help but feel that something, somewhere is not right behind the scenes.

They must know that Tinnion is not exactly popular at the moment amongst a section of the fanbase, yet they still chose to put him on the radio on Monday and figure him prominently in the promo for this. It feels deliberate for some unknown reason.

The increase in prices of over 10% with barely an acknowledgement feels cynical too.

I do think they have made the right move in trying to move the £50 U12 tickets to the family area and have no reason to complain about that, but the messaging about what is going on with SS tickets is jumbled and not very clear cut.

I think it is almost inevitable that we will see a drop in ticket sales, just on the prices alone. This year the hype definitely feels unjustified.

Having said that, I will be renewing, but for possibly the first time ever I have been given a reason to think about that choice and it's not comfortable.

When you think about it, there is no way the club can enforce a stadium ban, it would be so easy to gain entry, although in the unlikely event you do get in trouble again, the consequences could then be severe.

You would need to supply a false name and address to buy tickets in the first place, which while not impossible would soon get you caught out I would think.

    Any one else notice?

The commentators did, made a mention of it, something along the lines of you hardly ever see full on hoof it goal kicks in the Premier League any more

New ground, but it was a long time back. It must have been soon after the infamous play off games. And the new ground was looking pretty shabby pretty quickly!

Just checked, moved into the new ground in 1990

Perfect summary. That horrible night, the driving rain but what a thunderbolt. Sat on the halfway line and of our best goals i saw that season - has it ever been captured on video? About 30 games for us but no idea where he ended up. And yes, great name too.

As per the OP, it's on that video at 2:24

Ah, Knebworth.  I was at the first one in 1974: Tim Buckley (Jeff’s father), the Sensational Alex Harvey Band, Van Morrison, the Mahavishnu Orchestra, The Doobie Brothers, the Allman Brothers.  Happy days.

If you guys listen to podcasts at all you would probably appreciate https://500songs.com/ - an absolue tour de force, though I should warn you he's only up to the late sixties at present, 1974 might be reached in a year or two :P

So why have the police asked it to be moved in the first place then?

It's Us v Cardiff, always happens. Mainly due to trouble in the past.

You may think it is unneccessary now, and I would agree, but they obviously have a different opinion.

  17. 2 minutes ago, lenred said:

But the away game was 3pm with no issues at all save for the issues the police caused by lying about trains being available and then kettling us in.  Police and club are a joke here.

Not sure the police did much wrong here, they requested the kick off change months ago, it was the club that held off announcing it in the hope that it would be picked for TV, and then delayed the announcement for 11 days after it wasn't picked!

    Fair play that’s commitment!

70 or 80 that could be online though, saving special trips. Don’t get it.

Another 70 or 80 online would have sold out just as quickly as the first batch did. Having no stock at all in the shop would have caused uproar.

when even the commentators are remarking just how quiet the stadium is.....well that is not great!!! however, perhaps it is them putting everyone to sleep.

They were commenting on how Southampton's style can quieten down grounds when they are away, and you can see that, the way they just stand with the ball in defence and try to draw teams onto them
