  1. Boycott merely temporary. They'll be back (in their "tens of thousands", obviously) soon enough when Rovers go belly up and have to start from scratch in the Wessex League like Salisbury did this summer. ;)

Thinking about it, the threat of administration follows Dopey around

  2. I texted Twentyman show on Radio Bristol today, here is my text.

"Delighted that Sainsbury won in the High court today. Its Karma for all the the gas heads who actively campaigned against Bristol City attempt to build a staduim at Ashton Vale. What goes around comes around. Ps bet you won't read this out"

Geoff replied on air to my text and I quote " Delighted that Sainsbury won in the High ps bet you won't read this text out well I just did!"

Just an example of the BBC and other media outlets only reporting what they want to report and having there own agenda.

  3. I find it a bit strange those on this forum who are perfectly happy to slate big business against the little man; the socialist struggle so to speak much of that argument, in principle, being admirable even if the tenet of the politics I might not agree with... ie if Socialism worked it would be perfect so to speak.. Only to then take great glee in such a behemoth crushing the little guy: Sainsbury over a Football Club. Just find that a tad sad and hypocritical.. not saying anyone in particular but there are fans on this forum who might just wish to ponder on that.

    A Rovers spokesman:-

"We consider that Sainsbury's acted in bad faith and did their utmost to stall the purchase at every possible juncture. For instance, the Judge found that Sainsbury's could and should have engaged with local councillors and objectors during the planning process and kept the club informed of progress, which they did not do. "

The strongly worded statement went on: "The way in which Sainsbury's has conducted itself, repeatedly pledging its public support to the project (not only to the club but also to local MPs and Councillors) having already privately decided to pull out, encouraged the Club, UWE and both Bristol City and South Gloucestershire Councils to expend significant amounts of time and energy in connection with the plans to build the new stadium and ultimately left the club with no option but to sue Sainsbury's to keep this plan alive.

So its OK, for some, that a major Bristol public sector employer, Council, and a private business expended millions in man hours and cash only for it to be squashed by a ruthless PLC just so one can gloat.?

Its fine to poke a bit of fun, we all know that, but stop and think for a moment.. this is a bad and a sad day for what is fair and just in every sense of the word.

    Ashton Vale...?

  4. Can we now have a two day limit for further comment on Rovers and get back to focussing on our own club and what real football is all about. Silence about Rovers could be as deafening as the million comments made over the past 14 months!

Use the ignore button..

  5. Thanks  for that BCL.

Having followed this thread, and particularly the informed comments of the likes of 29AR and yourself, my instinct is scenario 3 (Sainsbury's win) is extremely unlikely, to the point we can basically rule it out.

A Rovers win, in the form of max. compensation, in your 'win big'  no. 3 scenario will be the most likely outcome, whether it should be, or they truly deserve it, or not.

Unfortunately they always somehow wangle their way out of the road to well deserved oblivion, whether it's fluking a promotion or stealing someone else's ground. Just when you feel their permanent demise must surely be happily inevitable they somehow find the extreme good fortune to wheedle their way out of it.

This won't be any different, just like before the play off final I'm resigned to them winning and coming out smelling of roses - anything else which leaves Higgs and co. stymied, and Rovers in permanent disarray would be too good to be true - but I've long ago accepted that it's simply not going to happen.

Maybe Monday the luck runs out.... :fingerscrossed:

  6. Quite, I can believe it this time though.

Surely it's not long until the Memorial Stadium is going to need some quite substantial repairs and upkeep, Wonga to repay, running costs...

Don't get me wrong I don't think we'll be looking at a collapse, but unless there's some angel in the wings or the Directors are willing to pump in some cash I can believe they'd be on the razor's edge of a Darlington/Stockport esque decline.

    Fingers crossed then
