  1. An interesting and enjoyable read, as ever, as was the interview with Liam Fontaine. Given the stick he received towards the end of his stay here, I think he was generous indeed with his comments.
  2. Discreet enquiries indicate that @Ian M is not pissed and we have indeed nicked him.
  3. I thought that he decided finally to stay at Palace!
  4. When I said last night that I thought Somerset could win, I had heard from somebody at the ground that the pitch was not the usual 'road' and was turning like they had all hoped when they signed Rehman. Perhaps Tomarse, who I suspect was in Taunton, could confirm later. Anyway, a welcome and long awaited win if something of an anticlimax after already getting the 7 points necessary.
  5. Tom - Oh ye of little faith! Are you at the ground in Taunton? No sooner do you post (on that other site) that Patel is going to screw us, it's all over etc., than he hits a 6 and then is C&B by Leach next ball! 28 needed, 9 wickets down.
  6. Bell now gone, bowled Cooper (5/41), but Barker is now hitting out.
  7. I agree with Tom that we need to get rid of Bell to have a realistic chance - seems to be batting comfortably now with Keith Barker and W now 129/6. We need to hope our 'overseas spinner', as Tom calls Cooper can strike again with Leach. What a shame we didn't hold on to Rehman
  8. I said yesterday, more in hope than conviction, that a Somerset win was still on the cards. Warwickshire now 104/5 at lunch, still needing another 121 runs with Cooper (4 for 13) and Leach (wicketless) both bowling well in tandem.
  9. Not sure what is going on with the quotes - I wanted to reply to MR. Warwickshire need 225 to win on a very strange wicket in dodgy weather conditions - a Somerset win is still very much on the cards.
  10. I'm pretty sure that MM mentioned at a recent Somerset meeting that Cooper would be classed as an overseas player next season and that, on this basis, he would not be retained - MM even went so far as to suggest he (MM) would be shot if he did so.
  11. Many years ago I saw a photograph of Brian Close's chest after a match in which he had been hit several times (it may have been against WI) and it resembled somebody with a large dose of measles, i.e. full of large red spots. Brian Close was also instrumental, IMO, in nurturing a young Ian Botham.
  12. Taunton has always been a win the toss and bat wicket. As it turned out, however, things are looking quite promising - I believe this was the highest opening stand in Div 1 this season.
  13. They don't make them like that any more, n'est-ce pas?
  14. Was that the game when the charming Batty got involved in a spat with Peter Trego?
  15. I have witnessed similar at Taunton, a one-day game against Warwickshire comes to mind - usual story; football fans becoming aggressive in the late afternoon/early evening after too many beers. I also recall a Somerset/Glos game several years ago at Bath that was particularly rowdy, with the Police having to break up fights between City and Rovers fans and ejecting several. These were all alcohol related, however, and I think Tomarse referred recently to a T20 Glamorgan game at Taunton when the Glamorgan fans were 'allegedly' fuelled by coke - a disappointing descent. I have just seen Phantom's post, so it may have been him rather than Tomarse who mentioned the Glamorgan game.
  16. I assume you were there, but are you sure: a; that they were both boundaries and b; that Fidel was genuinely aware of same? Pretty poor show if Yes to both questions.
  17. It's spelt Agard, and he is ready now based on this evening's cameo performance.
  18. I saw your earlier response to a similar question and edited my previous post. Thanks anyway.
  19. Out of curiosity, how and where have you 'watched' this? Sorry, I have just seen you are watching Sky.
  20. Weren't Somerset supposed to have been considering him last season?
  21. Well, Well. I just checked on WIKI (not that I ever doubted you ), and I see that he played 42 games for Leeds in the late 1990's after leaving Liverpool. Quite amazing given their intense rivalry.
