If we are looking for a bit more physicality (I don't necessarily mean target man) then I wouldn't mind having another look at Cauley Woodrow.  Scored goals at this level, and I don't think he is making Luton's match day squad at the moment (unless he is injured).  I doubt we will be spending £££ on fees either.

Woodrow played best at Barnsley in the 10 role, but iirc isn't physically that strong nor quick. Type of signing we'd make under MA on decent wages with no real chance of progression or sell on.

Conway is the better player for me in that role.

Need to look down the leagues like Al-Hamadi at Wombles with the view to next season with Liam having a full preseason with them imo. Same for Mehmeti to an extent.

Wouldn't be against a loan to buy option in Jan.

I just wish the idiot club just hadn't made that top 6 comment, they've made a rod for their own back there and put unnecessary pressure on Manning and given easy ammo to his detractors.

Generally I see managers as earning their keep if they're getting the squad performing at or preferably above their expected level - so our side (hah!), a top 6 side finishing in the top 6 is just par, it's not even impressive... it's expected. That's clearly pretty ridiculous as we all know, but that's what they've laid out. I feel for the bloke.

Wasn't going to take much away from this game but he's clearly got his work cut out - but it'll be evolution rather than revolution and compromises will have to be made on the playing style he wants I suspect.

The performance was poor but it's still an away point and could have been much worse. In the circumstance it was a bit of a banana skin game if anything... nobody would have been impressed if we won, disaster if we lost.

A couple of weeks now to get some of his processes and behaviours in place. Fingers crossed!

I just wish we, if sacking Person was on the cards anyway, had sorted all this in the summer.

Not mid way through the season in pure delusion.

Nothing against Manning, but the the sheer lack of strategic thinking by JL and BT is utterly staggering.

    It's idiotic.

The blokes a gimp, stick him on mute.

The fact that your sticking up for someone who called another forum poster misogynistic, then turn around and use an ableist insult. Genius.

I despair at the intellect on this forum at times.

Guess the “sacked 4” were already in the budget, so just the new guys are “extra spending”.

From an FFP perspective, budgeting wouldn't matter as we'd take the hit on compensation this season either way.

We'd alternatively have reduced running/salary costs, which if nothing else is likely more sustainable.

Calculations on the back of a fag packet springs to mind.

You've over estimated Manning/staff costs way too high and Nige's/staff too low.

Here's a survey from 3 years ago. You'll see the average for a Championship manager is 878k and the drop off to League One is substantial to 182k.

    27719234-0-image-a-46_1588019864966.thumb.jpg.70d7a148aea310dfd19d83da1463189b.jpg

We'll likely have had to pay the remainder of a couple of months of Nige's larger wages and his staff. I listened to BBC Oxford Radio when the news broke and they discussed the compensation package and they understood it that Manning was on a 12 month rolling contract so we ultimately bought him out of that year. Would of been nowhere near 600k. His new contract with us will be larger than his last in League One and I'm almost certain he's doubled his last salary but it will still be less than half of what Nige's would of cost.

For context, I don't agree with the £600k figure. I'm only going off what's been reported and speculated. We know there was some kind of buyout clause due to their being speculation in the first instance.

The very fact Piercy confirms a buyout clause - it's unlikely it's a rolling contract. It's also minimum of six figures. (https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/bristol-city-oxford-liam-manning-8886718.amp).

Nor is FM a reliable source - but they corroborate this by having Mannings (of which contract lengths was not disclosed on his appointment) tied to 2026. The only sign of this being at all accurate is the fact we offered a deal to 2027.

Based on the above using that average salary figure from your quote above, it's likely a buyout was a minimum figure of £350k if tied to 2026. Adding circa £170k for Hogg (who FM have tied to 2025, along with Krause).

So it's likely the entire package is actually closer to £650k at worst using those estimates.

But we have no idea what the compensation was, so to speculate that the money could have been used to bring in a couple of players suggests we shelled out loads.

We know for Manning it was £600k, and if we assuming Pearson's contract was circa £15kpw over 36 weeks, so circa £450k-550k.

Add staff (Assume £6kpw for Assistant, Medical. Coach at £4kpw) for further another circa £500k.

You'd probably be talking around £1m for NP, Rennie, Fleming, Euell.

For Manning, Hogg, Krause, probably £900k (longer contracts).

Include agent fees, it's probably circa £2m. Could have bought a another decent midfielder for that, which I'd of preferred. But we're here now with no NP. So...

Well that could be down to the quality of the remaining players couldn't it, especially at lower league level where players like Scott Twine are an exception rather than the rule.

Can apply that at any level.

As the dust settles on a bizarre 10 days or so, and as we await the arrival of our new Head Coach, I have read that Pat Mountain will be retained in the new regime.

Mountain has now survived the Johnson (Lee), Holden, and Pearson eras.

With the brutal chop/change mentality of the board around personnel and strategy, and the “wheel of fortune” approach to culture and “identity”, does this mean:

    a) Pat is the worlds best goalkeeping coach

     b) The role of goalkeeping coach is not one that can be failed at

    c) Pat Mountain is running the club hidden in plain sight?

    Food for thought surely.

Worth pointing out he's also set piece coach (as I understand it?) And that we're in the top half of the league from goals from set pieces.

Has this place turned into Gaschat where every new user who shows any sign of negativity is a secret Ted? Any new user is automatically dismissed as a Lansdown sympathiser on here currently.

Think people are suspect as when NP was appointed we didn't see the on rush of new users, all of whom were critical of NP and praising the owners that we're seeing now.

What was more suspect was the fact a lot of the new posters joined literally the day before he was ultimately sacked.

Could be circumstantial but I can see others PoV.

One of my big concerns is that him and Nige both have very different perspectives on the game.

Nige has been at an elite level. He knows what we were missing and what was required to get to that level.

Manning doesn't have that elite perspective. He's coming from League One. The step up is huge.

The quality of players is much higher and our facilities are much better.

Is he going to walk in and think wow all this is absolutely fantastic? Compared fo where he's come from?

Worth pointing out that Manning took his coaching qualifications while at West Ham, coached their U23s as well - so will have the experience of much better facilities than ours albeit not as a manager.

Perhaps, but coming to terms with something they would have preferred to turn out differently & then being deliberately dim/obtuse are 2 totally different things.

To claim the expectations of NP before the season started & whoever the new bloke is, with a third of the season gone & starting with already having to make up the defecit of NP's tenure, is just being ridiculous.

NP has gone. His record here was poor-just about average.

Our home form throughout his tenure has been pretty abysmal.

The timing (injuries) made the decision surprising - but that doesn't gloss over the fact that we have hardly progressed in his 2.5 years in charge.

    Speechless.

Kid is quite sure there is a German connection, without the new incumbent actually being German.

Oliver Glasner (Austrian) would be amazing, but surely out of our league,

When he left Eintracht Frankfurt, I was pretty sure he would get another job in the Bundesliga, but he has now been without a club since the end of last season.

Bo Svennson (Danish) has only very recently left Mainz, although surely he could get a better position than with us.

Additionally, someone mentioned earlier that we might need a translator for our new HC, which wouldn’t be the case here as his English is excellent.

In short, I should be delighted with either, but am extremely sceptical that we will get one of them.

Depends on what kind of link the German element is I suppose.

Uwe Rosler springs to mind - at Aarhus (AGF) in Denmark.

  13. Assume is a free agent due to time scales. Likely his own coaching team if Fleming has been released. High press and develops players.

Couldnt be Jesse Marsch, could it?

JL said how far off the betting market was in his interview - I haven't seen JM in any.
