Footballer in talking positively about current manager shocker.

Players tend to be much briefer with their comments if they're not happy. You have to accept that most players and many fans are happy with the coach, accepted not on this platform which is becoming increasingly disfunctional.

  2. Nahki only has good things to say about Manning:

The latest man in charge in BS3 may only be five years Wells’ senior but in the relatively short period he’s been in place, he’s certainly left an impression on the striker with his openness and willingness to try and improve each and every individual, irrrespctive of whether they’re 33 or 23.

“All managers are different, but what I would say, in working with the gaffer is, first and foremost, he’s a great person, he loves the game, he’s 100 per cent committed to his job and, us as players, he really gives you that feeling that he wants you to progress as player; whether you’re a 19-year-old coming through or an experienced player like myself, there’s always room for improvement,” Wells added.

“His door is open, you walk in to have a chat and next thing you know you’ve been in his office for an hour, you’ve been watching clips, you’ve spoken about things and that’s one of the biggest things that I can say is great about him, it’s continuously wanting to improve you as a player, improve the team, take zero shortcuts and has the way and a process at how he wants to do things and I think it’s coming to fruition, so hats off to him, he’s been a breath of fresh air since he’s been in with his ideas and his training methods.

    The annual accounts say different!

He has a “big” shareholding in the club, he has loans in the club that pay him interest.  I have no issue with this by the way.

Other club owners lend their clubs money interest free.

Although I’m not an SL fan, I recognise he has funded the club.  But it’s also very fair to say he hasn’t done it as a philanthropist, he wants his return on it.  For anyone to suggest he’s just slinging his money away carefree and wants none of it back is very naive.

Why do you think the Sporting Quarter only goes ahead if Longmoor Housing does?  Because that’s the business case, one funds the other…and some.  If Longmoor falls through as a result of the judicial review, then Sporting Quarter doesn’t happen.

And on the intangible side, shouldn’t someone expect to pay a bit of money to get 20 years of enjoyment?  Having said that, I don’t think he gets much joy anymore.

And I don’t hold a “be careful what you wish for” view.  If SL decides to sell us to someone unscrupulous to get his $dollar, then it says more about him than the new owner.  Personally I don’t see SL doing that, so why would I worry?  He’ll do his due diligence won’t he?  Surely?

The Sporting Quarter project and the housebuilding are separate from the football club, SL does expect to make a profit on those whereas the football club is always a loss maker and if he does get some money out (eg dividends) it's far less than he's putting in through share issues etc.. I doubt if any owner of a Championship club is making any money, they do it for fun and publicity in the main (I agree that this does not apply to SL now).

Well in fairness, SL’s keen on taking everybody else’s money too.. And if you have an asset that you’d like to sell at way above true market value then you really should ensure that you properly service, grow and maintain it.

SL doesn't see a penny of the money paid in by supporters, it all goes towards the players wages

  5. I like the fact he always tries to pass the ball forward, perhaps that's why his pass completion rate isn't that special. Also our poor run of results happened while he was injured, we haven't lost a game when he's started. He shouldn't be judged on yesterday where the whole team was out of balance due to our makeshift defence lacking a specialist CB.

  6. It's easy to look back on promotion seasons as some of our best, but we were in League One then where promotion is a lot easier to achieve than in the Championship. Now we lose more games but we're playing at a higher level, which is really an improvement.

On one hand it is a nice thought, on the other when we reach this stage of the season and there is uncertainty about the medium term, it can be hard to get enthused or confident.

In football there's always uncertainty in the medium term!

Differing views from the Green Army ahead of this game; https://pasoti.co.uk/threads/argyle-v-bristol-city-the-build-up.127606/

Liam Manning & Scott Twine fill me with dread. Their last visit to the Theatre of Greens was a day to forget for our beloved club. Be interesting to see who will be given the task of stopping Twine & quick feet Mehmeti.

    They Played For Both
Kieran Agard, Paul Anderson, Ian Baird, Tyreeq Bakinson, Andre Blackman, Yannick Bolasie, Joe Bryan, Richard Davis, Keith Fear, Arnold Garita, Rene Gilmartin, Trevor Jacobs, Joe Lennox, Guy Madjo, Sean McCarthy, Alan Miller, Kevin Nugent, Karleigh Osborne, Scott Partridge, Forbes Phillipson-Masters, Bobby Reid, Gary Sawyer, Steven Sessegnon, Enoch Showunmi, Phil Starbuck, Ryan Taylor, Robbie Turner, Zak Vyner. Any more? Dave Smith Dave Burnside?

I didn't realise Trevor Jacobs & Keith Fear had played for both. Correct if wrong but I believe Dave Burnside was a Bristolian, but never played for either Bristol club.

Dave Burnside was with us as a youth player and was signed by Alan Dicks in 71/72 season but only made one appearance. Wasn't he famous for his ball juggling skills? Seem to remember he gave a pre match exhibition of his skills at AG on one occasion?

  9. I think when the season's over and we can reflect it will be clear that the squad was not as good as last season, very difficult to replace the likes of Scott and Semenyo effectively, so if we end up with more than the 59 points we got then it will be a reasonable result.

I was really surprised how many empty seats there were in the ground today for a sell out, not just the usual spaces in the south stand but lots of spaces on the sides as well,

Easily explained, my wife is ill so we couldn't go

Don’t want to jump on you for this and I’m sure you have your reasons for believing this and have heard people say as much, but I think it’s very obvious that was not the issue.
NP wasn’t private about his health issues, it was mentioned often and he was open about it. If that was really the reason why not do what they did with Mowbray and have Flemming caretake.
No, we all saw what happened and it doesn’t take a genius to see what unfolded.     They didn’t like NP, he was too hot to handle, he’s done what he was asked to do and they wanted him gone.

I think Nige's health was an issue in so much as he wasn't feeling great and probably said some things he would have normally kept to himself when he was ok, and as a result his relationship with the owners was broken.
