  1. good point

He hasn't really played on spinner friendly pitches to be fair to him, I said him because he is cherpy and talks to the other players and shows encrougment, Cook is just too defensive and doesn't go after sides, and I just don't like broad for some reason no idea why but there is just something about him that rubs me up the wrong way,

I don't like him cos he 's a cheat, but let's not go there again !

  2. Full credit to Stokes in only his second test playing with some passion and putting most of his team mates to shame. We will obviously lose but hopefully he will get a century. He is the only positive from this disastrous tour.

True, not many have come out in the + credit so far, only Stokes & Bell really.

  3. True indeed. I think the Greek protests were covered but, as you say, the Italian demos get very little UK media coverage. (I read the Reuters copy in the Inde of all places!)

How can Ed Balls maintain any credibility after his eurozone enthusiasm?

According to Bill keegan in The Observer today '...if there is one person other than Gordon Brown for keeping the UK out of the structurally faulty eurozone it is Ed Balls' !

  4. I disagree completely. We weren't gelling, we were giving away soft goals, passing it round at the back and getting no where, picking up the odd point and in big trouble. As much as I wanted odriscoll to do well, it wasn't happening. It really irritates me, at tamworth last week the bloke behind me said to his mate 'I hope you brought your neck brace', SOD's team was NOT playing football, was NOT picking up results and was in the relegation zone. We played long today but at least at the end of the game we were going for it.

True, but they also were against Orient

  5. Reckon we need to start blooding more of the kids, get rid of the couldn't give a toss attitude and put some real heart in the squad, OK we probably will go down, but it will pay off in the long run, otherwise we will lose them anyway, we have done it before in the lower /lower leagues, and under Cotterill this might be the answer, after all he has a 3.5 year deal.

What's really really depressing is you could probably go back 12 months and there'd be similar posts !

  6. Actually being an African myself, I'll reverse that arguement. If Terrorists shoot down civil airliners down with SAM's then machine gun the survivors, do you expect Rhodesian (or South African, as both countries suffered from brutal attacks on civilians, it wasnt all one sided) not to go and capture kill the terrs? We had to do so, and the terrs/freedom fighters (depending on your point of view) purposely hid among the refugees, the women the kids, the schools, the hospitals...one raid the Rhodesians carried out killed over 2000 terrorists, and about 400 civilians. some 100 tons of weapons and munitions were captured. I beleive the liberal press accused us of planting the evidence. 100 tons of munions planted? Using Alouette III's? Hmmmmmmmm..

Mandela admitted being a terrorist, planting bombs. He was honest. His "comrades" werent/arent/will never be.

As for the IRA arguement, thats a mixture of terrorism/patriotism/gangsterism..and they just bombed maimed murdered people to keep their little patch safe from security forces intervention...

Haven't heard of that one Bucks, when was it ?

  7. Well I've think I've just got over that debacle. Here's some snaps from the fantastic new Adelaide Oval:

Sat here for most of the test (Riverbank mid level). Amazing seats right below the ABC commentary box.

The famous old scoreboard at the Cathedral end. Very pretty , but It's bloomin' hard work watching a game from the (infamous) hill that sits in front of it mind..

A view of the Riverbank stand - it's massive!

A view of the unfinished western stand(s).

Overall I think they've done a great job with the old girl. Especially if you compare to the concrete monstrosity that is the 'Gabba.

Great photo's are you NTTDS in disguise ?!  Can you still see the lovely church/cathedral from the ground ?

  8. I wasn't doing it to compare regimes or their position within their society at the time

I was asked where Mandela was when the Church Street bombing went off. As we all know, he was in prison, and as I said, he admitted in his book that he orchestrated and "signed off" the bombing from his jail cell. I read your question to me as a way of you saying "well, he was in prison so it wasn't him" (or am i way off the mark?)

The comparison with Hitler is because having studied European History my whole academic life, I cannot find a single piece of evidence that suggests that Hitler actually killed a Jew (or anyone for that matter) himself, he arranged for his minions to do his bidding. In comparison to Mandela, was not him that set off the bomb (s), but he planned it. That means he has blood on his hands, innocent people's blood and their death's on his conscience.

So if you are saying that because Mandela was in prison at the time, he cannot accept the responsibility of the deaths of those that day, then by the logic imposed, nor can Hitler for killing the jews, because it was not him directly.

We can look at others if you so wish.......

    anyway back to topic.....

The IRA comparison??? well considering it was them who funded, helped plan and equip the ANC / MK in these times, i'm pretty sure you can. I'm just wondering if you're refusing to acknowledge the allegiance and great friendship they had or just not aware that it existed?????. If that happened in Church Street Belfast, or Church Street Manchester, would you have been able to spot the difference?? Big bomb goes off killing innocent people in a public space. That to me deserves no praise at all, regardless of who set it off.

I've got a very graphic photo of a small child that died in the Church street bombing attack. head imploded, legs gone, intestines out the waist, now i'm not putting it on here for obvious reasons, but according to some of you lot, that child died for "the greater good" - go and tell that child's parents that the kid deserved to die. Better yet, tell me on here. Tell me that a small child's death in a bombing planned by Mandela was justified.

necklacing...... It was not just their enemies, if any black person in South Africa refused to take part in the strikes proclaimed by the ANC, they were accused of being collaborators with the regime and they were given the death sentence by this method of torture. as mrs mandela said "with tyres and matches we will liberate this country" - once again, it's too graphic to show on here, do your own research.

I'm sorry, but i cannot accept him being whiter than white (excuse the racial pun) like some of you on here. That's just an honest opinion of someone who thinks that killing innocent people by bombing public spaces and torturing people who say "no" by setting them on fire while tied within tyres does not deserve the praise he gets.

As you've obviously read the book can you point me directly to the page the quote appears on.

  9. Us Brits do love a bit of mawkish third hand sentimentality. Tell people someone's a hero often enough and they'll eventually believe it. I'd love to know how much of the moral indignation directed at negative posts on this thread are a result of recent Wikipedia sessions, as opposed to genuine empathy with South Africa's turbulent past.

The facts of Mandela's terrorist leanings are still facts, even if some try to interpret them otherwise (hilariously)

Back to sticking fingers in ears and lalalalala-ing when anyone offers a different opinion all you Nelson fans!

I think it's more that the negative posts aren't based on facts. Seeing as you obviously have a full knowledge of the 60's -80's in SA can you confirm if the 'terrorist leanings' that Mandela had resulted in any deaths ? I appreciate he was a founding member of the NK but have yet to uncover whether he was personally responsible which is what the Dez's of this thread have mentioned, although I see Dez has now slightly softened his stance towards NM.

  10. wow. 4 pages in and nobody mentioned anything about his love and admiration for the IRA.

Are the IRA only terrorists when they're blowing up people in England? all their funding and training to the MK / ANC came in quite handy in Church Street, Pretoria. - but let me guess, because it's for "the greater good", it's ok?? Tell that to the relatives of innocent people who passed away that day.

presumably you're all going to show the same regard to Gerry Adams and Martin Mcguiness when they die.

at the end of the day, i will never accept the bombing of innocent civilians as a means to getting your point across as acceptable. Mandela's intentions were good, but his actions were not.

Where was Mandela when these actions occurred ?
