  1. Fair play to Johnson that was some spell but we shouldn't be surprised as this team Haven't batted well for a long time now. This is an ageing team that has come to the end of the road I'm afraid.

Aren't the Aussies older than us ?

  2. I don't agree with a minutes silence or applause for any politician ( unless they had had something to do with Bristol city ) I was strongly opposed to suggestions of a minutes silence for Thatcher and although in general my political sympathys lie far more with mandela than Thatcher, I think honouring politicians of any political persuasion is bound to cause division amongst our support, _ an haven't we got enough of that already ?

You ca't say he was just a politician though, OK he was President for three years but was 76 at the time of the election having spent most of the previous 30 years behind bars. Was not a politician, certainly in the coventional sense, before that in fact I think he was a lawyer.

  3. Is it?

I have heard stories from our extended family that had loved ones killed by Mandela's off shoot of the ANC. If they were at the game, what do reckon their opinion of the minutes silence would be?

Apparently they were in the wrong shopping centre at the wrong time.

Mr Mandela used to be cold and calculating. I am sure there are those out there that remember that side of the forgiving side of a elderly man.

I kniw this has deviated from football minutes silence per se. But not everyone will agree with it is the point I am making, so a minutes silence should not be forced on people.

It's a minute's applause, if anyone doesn't want to clap they have that option.

  4. What has he got to do with English football?

Well how deep do you want to go ? I'll start by saying I'd imagine a lot of black players, for instance, are inspired by him. Anyway why should English football be so insular ?

  5. Des,you can throw as many right wing conservative opinions at me as you like, the fact is they're tainted by the political slant of the authors. Feel free to believe them.

Please see post # 70 for my thoughts on NM and terrorism.

  6. Costly costly drop from Carberry. He really needs to cash in now. Big day needed from kp & bell. One of them needs to go very big, with help from prior as well. Why don't our tail sneak a quick 50 like Harris??

They used to until quite recently !

  7. He almost tried to wage war against white South African's, some regarding him as a terrorist for encouraging rallies that caused violence. It was all for a very very valid purpose was it not?

Well I think the subjugation of the majority population is quite a valid cause !

Pre-trial I believe he renounced peaceful actions once all other avenues were closed, but any specific targets were either industrial or military which could be regarded as legitimate. Once inside prison I don't see how he could have been involved with any bombings which the military wing of the ANC committed, anyway these bombings were mainly retaliatory and pale into insignificance compared to what the SA state was up to.

  8. A highly emotive topic and feelings will be no doubt alligned to ideology and political ideology.

Mandela no doubt saw disgraceful, unjustifiable treatment during his reign... But from where I'm at during my time in life I don't condone a lot of his actions.

Feelings run high on either side and I think for right now a lot are best left unsaid. Those detractors have their reasonable issues and those supporters their reasonable condolences.

A man has lost his life and that alone is a tragedy.

What actions exactly are you referring to ?

  9. What rubbish.

Mandela would have been released from prison the moment he rejected violence and he refused to do so.

He preferred to carry on killing.

    So are martyrs created

Good description of what you've written.

  10. he had 46 games in charge won 11 of those and only 2 of those in the last 27 thats plenty of time for a team he built on his own (not other peoples players like with McInnes and Millen) he failed big time but people can't see past that 5-2 smashing we had at home to donnie on johnson,

We have never played attractive football under him every single stat that can be produced is against him yet people seem to think 22nd and another relegation will be fine,

If we dropped again under SoD he's have to rebuild again with more players as we wouldnt afford league one wages and could well be in the gas's situation next season,

It couldn't go on any longer, its the correct call

In your opinion of course, now we'll never know. My opinion is things were getting better and the team was starting to gel, especially away from home. I honestly don't believe we'd have been relegated with him in charge. Now it's all back to square 1 again ffs.

  11. Sacking the Creepy Crawley boss was a joke decision. Take a hard look at. O'driscolls record at bcfc we were heading for the 4th division. The O'drivell love fest confuses me. The bloke will be remembered by me as the worst city coach for me. Breaking all the wrong records. Plus he's an ignorant, arrogant person

No wonder you're confused, there was no love fest, just hope that a respected manager would be given time to turn things round.

  12. Which ones?

KP is half English, half South African. Prior is the same.

Trott is our only full South African

Pietersen is SA as far as I'm concerned, the accent slightly gives it away. Only moved here out of convenience due to disagreeing with quotas, apparently. Not sure about Prior, was he born in SA ?

  13. Just think because he's young and plays for Yorkshire he gets in the team. Only 1 good score in 11 innings isn't good enough, Compton was dropped with a better average I think but doesn't play for a fashionable side.

Don't go along with that, playing for Somerset didn't seem to affect Tressies England career. Compo just got bogged down, deserved to be dropped.

  14. Apart from a century in the last ashes series, what runs has root scored. Think he averaged just over 30 in the summer with a 180 in there. Take that off he would be around the 12 to 13 mark, which is very poor.

Would rather him in the team than 'our' South Africans
