Plymouth away support is fantastic, they have to travel for 2 hours before they even hit Bristol, not as good as Rovers away support though

I went to Salford on Tuesday with a Plymouth supporting mate. Away support was excellent. Fair few Bury fans in the away end too. They proper hate Salford. Didn’t get back to Bristol till 2 so most of the Plymouth fans would have got home around 4am.  Of course nowhere near as good as Gas support but pretty good.

  2. So - fellow Somerset fans, and yes I include myself.

Why oh why do we come back for this annual humiliation. To make it even worse there was actually some hope for a while tonight - surely there’s enough disappointment watching City without choosing to go through this.

That’s it. There’s no way I’m coming back for another dose of this... until next season!

Surprised that's all they took. Thought it would be their biggest following of the season

We mustn’t forget that their away support is way better than ours. Ok, the tickets might have been cheaper than we had to pay up there last week BUT  the pay on the day option will have put thousands off as being able to turn up and pay cash at the turnstiles is a real inconvenience. Also, don’t forget they have another game next Saturday and thousands more will be choosing that one instead.

  4. I was out for a Christmas drink with a bunch of them on Friday and I have to say top salt of the earth lads. Misguided?Absolutely I say, although I’m sure they think the same about me.

They can also laugh about their club as much as any of us can. All of the Rovers fans I know in person are decent.

Three further thoughts on the game.

1; After scoring his goal, Bobby R didn't just celebrate with his team mates, but came running over to celebrate in front of us fans.

2; This year Cole Skuse didn't come over to acknowledge us after the game. Two seasons ago after the 2-23 draw he did.

3; Fans segregated inside the ground, but outside no Police and no segregation, we walked towards the station in one unified mass.

What a quality celebration it was. He put the bloke in the disabled section's hat on if I saw correctly. One of the Ipswich fans seemed to get majorly arsey about it, which made it even funnier.

Ipswich fans I spoke to were great before and after the game.

Excellent second half. Credit to LJ and the team for turning it around.

At about 2pm there were 5-6 Barnsley fans walking down North St chanting obnoxiously and unnecessarily about Bristol being a s***hole (oh the irony), trying to intimidate families going about their business. Big men. Glad their journey home will feel longer after a defeat.

I saw and heard them outside the ground by the park heading towards North Street as we arrived. Did think about giving them a friendly warning to be careful going up North Street like that. A bit cringeworthy as they weren't exactly the biggest scariest looking bunch.  Thought the rest of the Barnsley fans added a lot to the atmosphere. Good effort from them with nothing to play for.

It truly was a whole club performance and shows what can be achieved when everyone is United.

You really had to be there to feel how great the atmosphere was. Playing the best team in the league, being up against 49k Geordies and being right up in the heavens ment the team and fans were really up against it but each and every one of us raised our game. We all had to shout as loud as we possibly could to get our message of support accross to the players, every tackle, every clearance and every save was greeted with a war cry from our fans. How we held on I don't know but what I do know is as a club we held on together.

For 90 mins our current situation was forgotten about. Ok it was only a draw but today will go down as one of my most memorable away days.

I was expecting to get hammered by Newcastle, but I treated this game as a cup final and a small part of me believed we could nick a result.

Every Newcastle fan I spoke to were very impressed with our performance and our vocal support.

My MOTM was Giefer, with Cotts coming a very close second.

Giefer was born for today's game. He pulled off some great saves, dominated his area and his performance inspired the defence. Today he looked right at home at St James Park. And then what impressed me the most was when under the cosh he would slow the game right down to relieve pressure, throw himself on the floor when catching the ball, taking an absolute age to take kicks, this game us a chance to regroup and catch our breaths. Not had a keeper of ours do these things for a very long time.

Ok it may be a flash in the pan but on today's performance he gets my full credit.

LJ imo got everything spot on today (which can't often be said) for once he made the right subs at the right times.

Fantastic post Up the City. Perfectly sums up how the day was for me too. I nearly sh@t myself when I saw how high up we were. Took me a good few minutes to get used to it. The site of more and more knackered City fans arriving after climbing all those stairs was a great distraction. Loved the way we outsang 50,000 Newcastle fans.  The only time I thought they were REALLY loud was when they were booing Giefer for taking his time, which I absolutely loved.

The fact that 2600+ City fans went all they way up there and gave the level of support that they did, in spite of how bad performances have been lately, gave me a great sense of pride in being a City fan.

Half time was priceless when one of our fans was on the phone to a mate telling them we were 2-0 up. 'No, we're winning 2-0 .....2-0 to us....honest....'

Been to 60+ grounds watching City but that was right near the top for me as away days go. Worth every mile of the 600 mile round trip.
