  1. I don't have and am not trying to make any case.
  2. Just out of interest, what do you think the penalty should have been?
  3. Who knows, and I'm not saying there are any.
  4. I still stand by what I said in my original post btw, there are many, many crimes, committed by all sorts of people, not just footballers and the hypocrisy of the lynch mob knows no bounds, but that's all part of the modern world I'm afraid, along with vacuous meaningless statements put out by corporations, including football clubs, whenever they feel like they should be 'being seen' to be doing something. It's all incredibly depressing. Oh, and one more thing that got my goat, although it could just be me overthinking things. The welcome to Rovers post that was put out for Jevani Brown showed him in the kit with his kids. I don't think I have ever seen a welcome pic like that before, the cynical among us may be tempted to believe that was an attempt to portray him as a 'family man' and that sort of shite really does piss me off. I don't think Rovers are any better or any worse than any other club at this sort of bollocks. Jevani Brown has been punished by the courts and not one of us will ever really know the circumstances behind what happened that night, but he isn't the first and he certainly won't be the last to be involved in something like this.
  5. I agree, I'm sure he will say something along the lines of' I meant if they committed the offence while employed by us' We live in an age where when anything happens clubs feel the need to put out a meaningless corporate statemnen. That one was particularly strongly worded, but, like you say, he will wriggle out of it somehow.
  6. I don't think anyone in their right mind would condone assault, I certainly don't, but we have courts and procedures to deal with those who break the law. Is it just footballers we think should lose their living as a result of a conviction, or is it everyone? Is it just assault on women that deserves the extra punishment, or should we extend it to assault on men as well, or on a certain age group? Is it just violent crime we want to apply extra sanctions to, or should we apply it to scammers as well who cause such heartbreak and ruin? Or drink drivers, or drug users?
  7. He's right though isn't he, I mean they just wouldn't do that to us. Admittedly there are some dodgy ******* about, I even heard of one board who told their fans they were DEFINITELY moving to Cheltenham for a season and for a mere fiver were running coaches up there so we could pick our seats and they only cancelled the day before when they got rumbled. Oh... hang on...
  8. Well , apart from the obvious, that was pretty glorious to watch wasn't it. As I said, that was my first derby game and it hadn't dawned on me until I heard Roger Malone mention it in the commentary, that it was the first one for a decade, I guess there must have been quite some build up to the match , but as a 10 or 11 year old at the time , I don't have much recollection of that. It also reminded me that I did see Dick Sheppard play for us, albeit just that one game -does anyone know why his return was a one off? I could still easily name both teams regular line ups from that era, I'd struggle to name or recognise many players from both sides from the past 10-15 years. I did have the pleasure of going on the piss with Tom Ritchie in hospitality at Rovers last season, who really was a great guy and he seemed quite touched that so many Rovers fans still recognised him and gave him a very warm welcome in the bars around the ground. At the risk of sounding like an old fart, it's worth noting that in the current era we would have almost certainly had a penalty for Collier's handball and Cheesley would have seen a red card for his reaction to Frankie Prince's challenge. What with the 4th goal coming from a huge punt downfield from Cashley, Joey Barton would have been apoplectic! I seem to remember that Cheesley was considered a bit of an unfit Norwich reject at the time, does anyone else remember that being the case? It could of course just been abuse from the North Enclosure that day that stuck in my young brain.
  9. I have absolutely no idea why I remember shit like this, but I'm pretty sure the game was Good Friday and not Easter Monday. I was at the game and I'm pretty sure at 26K it must be the biggest home crowd I have ever seen Rovers play in front of. The 4-1 you mention was actually my first ever derby, I think Gordon Fearnley put us 1 up in a strong wind and it was one way traffic in the second half. Pedantic Gas
  10. Some of our potential season ticket holders had trouble with Ticketmaster and were in effect 'locked out' . Out true STH base would be closer to 15,000
  11. If it was just a rumour, I unreservedly apologise. My memory isn't what it was, but I thought I remembered him being charged.
  12. Maybe it's just my City mates then. I was pretty friendly with Mark , AKA 'Divvy' although I never called him that in my life, and he certainly used to use the term and I have seen 'CAF' on tee shirts . Possibly it was something he said and others picked up on it? Anyway, it's a good expression
  13. He hasn't taken a hiatus, he is done with the club, his choice obviously- would you do the same?
  14. I don't support any one man at the club now or who has ever been at the club. I support Bristol Rovers and I always will. There may possibly come a time I no longer attend matches- although I doubt that- but I could never describe myself as an 'ex-supporter', it kinda goes against everything about what being a fan of any club is. City fans have the expression 'City as ****' and I totally get it, I suspect you don't or ever will.
  15. Glen Humphries? The sad fact is that society is littered with people who have a propensity towards violence. I suspect every team has had such a player, we just didn't always get to hear about it.
  16. He's a slimy ****** isn't he? I didn't really take any notice of him when he was with you, gutted really, such an easy man to dislike and his time with you passed me by!
  17. And another thing, what's with the reinvention of Manchester City as 'City' I have heard two Bristolians call Man City ,'City' in the past week, I was genuinely confused when the first asked me if I was going to watch the City game in the pub. I'll allow Mancunians to refer to their teams as City and United, but if you ain't from there, and especially if you're from Bristol, you can **** right off!
  18. Jesus, how hyped up were those commentators and pundits and what was all that bollocks before hand? Turn the sound systems down, let the fans sing and let the players play.
  19. Meh, Bristol is okay. Has it's faults of course, just like everywhere, but I'm bemused how many people continue to slag off, what is a very, very nice place to live. maybe you should move back and see just how cool it is
  20. I used to sit next to him regularly at Twerton Park of all places. He was writing for the Sunday Independent then, really nice bloke. I remember talking to him about the rivalry between our clubs but apparently it was very different when he was playing. Obviously they always wanted to beat each other, but always wanted the other team to do well when they weren't playing each other and he enjoyed covering the Rovers games. I can't remember if he covered City as well?
  21. Celtic have been delightful to watch under Ange, on the front foot for the entire game and normally come out with the win. He has implemented this style wherever he has managed and has always had success. Gutted to see him go. Will he be given the time at Spurs to implement his style and whether it would work in England are both valid points though. I was at the Real Madrid game earlier in the season. Celtic took the game to them, missed several chances, it looked like men against boys for 60 minutes. Then Real scored 3 in 15 minutes .
  22. They are saying they want an employee rather than to contract the work out. I mean, of all the thigs you could easily take the piss out of us for, that we want to employ a general maintenance man is an odd thing to go for
