  1. Okay- I think assault is a terrible crime- is that okay? I've made several posts on this subject and one of them mentioned the meaningless statements clubs and companies put out when something like this happens, just so they can be seen to be doing the right thing, it's utter bollocks. Of course I wouldn't defend Jevani Brown doing what he did, who on earth in their right mind would? But I don't buy into all this shite about how this should effect how I support my team. The hypocrisy stinks when it comes to things like this. When Barton was first employed at Rovers a bloke I know(City fan fwiw) was saying it was disgusting we had employed him and how I should be ashamed to be a Rovers fan. Ten minutes later he was chatting and laughing about how he made a teenage Liverpool fan cry when they got him cornered around Ashton at the cup game- and I'm the one who should be embarrassed? nah, I know I'm a half decent bloke, I've done things wrong like we all have, but who Rovers employ isn't a reflection on me just as some bully isn't a reflection on most City fans.
  2. I haven't 'backed' anyone, try reading what I posted.
  3. I don't go on it, but I'd imagine if you looked back, what you would find is that some posters were very pious, and that will always be the case as it is with every other form of social media.
  4. Twas a thing of beauty and well worth the attempted right handers from those in B Block of the Dolman when my cover was blown Totally deserved as well, we outplayed you that day
  5. Okay, probably a similar age to me then. You could call the signing of Brown a lot of things, but it certainly isn't pre planned cheating. FWIW , I found it odd that Rovers didn't wait for the outcome of the case before making a decision. I assume they were very confident of a non custodial sentence.
  6. I do see your point, I just don't agree with your boundaries . Do you mind if I ask your age? I just wondered if there is anything in the history of your club that has made you consider stopping your support?
  7. It will certainly be interesting to see how Wael deals with that one, my bet was that they would say Brown wasn't employed by us at the time of the offence, although seemingly they have gone for the Dominic Cummings/Boris Johnson approach of 'delete, pretend it never happened and everyone will forget about it soon enough'
  8. If you mean do the actions of any individuals have a bearing on my support for Rovers, then no . Does that mean I support or condone the actions of those individuals, that's a no as well. I suspect that am no different to 99% of football fans of any club in that respect.
  9. I don't have and am not trying to make any case.
  10. Just out of interest, what do you think the penalty should have been?
  11. Who knows, and I'm not saying there are any.
  12. I still stand by what I said in my original post btw, there are many, many crimes, committed by all sorts of people, not just footballers and the hypocrisy of the lynch mob knows no bounds, but that's all part of the modern world I'm afraid, along with vacuous meaningless statements put out by corporations, including football clubs, whenever they feel like they should be 'being seen' to be doing something. It's all incredibly depressing. Oh, and one more thing that got my goat, although it could just be me overthinking things. The welcome to Rovers post that was put out for Jevani Brown showed him in the kit with his kids. I don't think I have ever seen a welcome pic like that before, the cynical among us may be tempted to believe that was an attempt to portray him as a 'family man' and that sort of shite really does piss me off. I don't think Rovers are any better or any worse than any other club at this sort of bollocks. Jevani Brown has been punished by the courts and not one of us will ever really know the circumstances behind what happened that night, but he isn't the first and he certainly won't be the last to be involved in something like this.
  13. I agree, I'm sure he will say something along the lines of' I meant if they committed the offence while employed by us' We live in an age where when anything happens clubs feel the need to put out a meaningless corporate statemnen. That one was particularly strongly worded, but, like you say, he will wriggle out of it somehow.
  14. I don't think anyone in their right mind would condone assault, I certainly don't, but we have courts and procedures to deal with those who break the law. Is it just footballers we think should lose their living as a result of a conviction, or is it everyone? Is it just assault on women that deserves the extra punishment, or should we extend it to assault on men as well, or on a certain age group? Is it just violent crime we want to apply extra sanctions to, or should we apply it to scammers as well who cause such heartbreak and ruin? Or drink drivers, or drug users?
  15. He's right though isn't he, I mean they just wouldn't do that to us. Admittedly there are some dodgy ******* about, I even heard of one board who told their fans they were DEFINITELY moving to Cheltenham for a season and for a mere fiver were running coaches up there so we could pick our seats and they only cancelled the day before when they got rumbled. Oh... hang on...
  16. Well , apart from the obvious, that was pretty glorious to watch wasn't it. As I said, that was my first derby game and it hadn't dawned on me until I heard Roger Malone mention it in the commentary, that it was the first one for a decade, I guess there must have been quite some build up to the match , but as a 10 or 11 year old at the time , I don't have much recollection of that. It also reminded me that I did see Dick Sheppard play for us, albeit just that one game -does anyone know why his return was a one off? I could still easily name both teams regular line ups from that era, I'd struggle to name or recognise many players from both sides from the past 10-15 years. I did have the pleasure of going on the piss with Tom Ritchie in hospitality at Rovers last season, who really was a great guy and he seemed quite touched that so many Rovers fans still recognised him and gave him a very warm welcome in the bars around the ground. At the risk of sounding like an old fart, it's worth noting that in the current era we would have almost certainly had a penalty for Collier's handball and Cheesley would have seen a red card for his reaction to Frankie Prince's challenge. What with the 4th goal coming from a huge punt downfield from Cashley, Joey Barton would have been apoplectic! I seem to remember that Cheesley was considered a bit of an unfit Norwich reject at the time, does anyone else remember that being the case? It could of course just been abuse from the North Enclosure that day that stuck in my young brain.
  17. I have absolutely no idea why I remember shit like this, but I'm pretty sure the game was Good Friday and not Easter Monday. I was at the game and I'm pretty sure at 26K it must be the biggest home crowd I have ever seen Rovers play in front of. The 4-1 you mention was actually my first ever derby, I think Gordon Fearnley put us 1 up in a strong wind and it was one way traffic in the second half. Pedantic Gas
  18. Some of our potential season ticket holders had trouble with Ticketmaster and were in effect 'locked out' . Out true STH base would be closer to 15,000
  19. If it was just a rumour, I unreservedly apologise. My memory isn't what it was, but I thought I remembered him being charged.
  20. Maybe it's just my City mates then. I was pretty friendly with Mark , AKA 'Divvy' although I never called him that in my life, and he certainly used to use the term and I have seen 'CAF' on tee shirts . Possibly it was something he said and others picked up on it? Anyway, it's a good expression
  21. He hasn't taken a hiatus, he is done with the club, his choice obviously- would you do the same?
  22. I don't support any one man at the club now or who has ever been at the club. I support Bristol Rovers and I always will. There may possibly come a time I no longer attend matches- although I doubt that- but I could never describe myself as an 'ex-supporter', it kinda goes against everything about what being a fan of any club is. City fans have the expression 'City as ****' and I totally get it, I suspect you don't or ever will.
  23. Glen Humphries? The sad fact is that society is littered with people who have a propensity towards violence. I suspect every team has had such a player, we just didn't always get to hear about it.
