If it hadn't been for the A8 ripping up their contracts the club would have been bankrupt. The very fact that the A8 did this still has not sunk in to gasheads that City did Not go bankrupt. There would have been no point in ripping up those contracts if the club did go bankrupt.

    They went into liquidation.

Going back to your much earlier post Miah, I am sure most of us would support the game of football versus bad owners, but perhaps you chose the wrong target to criticise Bristol City on OTIB in order to open up that discussion.

It wasn't me that brought it up :)

Don’t think I imagined it , but I think it was shown on here how a bid for Ashton gate was leaked by the press & the rovers board had to retract it

Yes, I'm pretty sure that's the case, I just don't remember the details of 1982 from the time. I do know one of the 8 and chatted to one other about it at a later date and how it is reported now , which is far from the reality of what actually happened. Those players were shat on from a great height.

It was all our own fault no doubt about that . Are you doubting though that your board were circling like vultures to buy Ashton gate & blocking a loan by the council. Effectively putting your foot on top of a drowning man’s head ?
This is why you’ll never get any sympathy from a certain generation of us Miah .

I honestly cant remember that, but it is pretty well documented on here, so I have no doubt it is true. I was 18 in 1982 and bearing in mind that our only source of information then was the Evening Post, as you can imagine, I was busy doing far more interesting things than reading the paper :)

So how did they manage to come up short for SAG then ?

Surely, just to comply they just needed to ask a few more to move. Then you get the required 75% full and you can move on. I'm guessing you need to try again Saturday .

Did they come up short? I'm very surprised- it certainly looked more than 3/4 full.

  5. 25 minutes ago, 1960maaan said:

That seems mad , at a game they were very keen to hit certain numbers they could have offered a certain amount of people to move. At least then you wouldn't have a situation where you needed 75% for SAG and only got 65%.
Not sure what that means in respect of opening the stand fully, does it put it back until you hit those numbers?

That's pretty much whatt they did.

    God no- far too depressing.

Not sure if relevant to your post but some season ticket holders bought tickets in the new cow shed in order to beef-up the numbers.

No, season ticket holders from other sections (like me) were able to swap for a South Stand ticket. I was actually able to do that for the Blackpool game as well and will probably do the same on Saturday.

In fairness you're probably right, judging by the amount of empty seats and ticket price slashing by the club.

I got a bit carried away and was over-exaggerating the amount of supporters that Rovers have actually got these days 🤣

You were probably counting the ones locked out, common mistake.

That’s fine, I already knew the answer.

Well yes and it's pretty much what my post said, it doesn't matter who you support, c****s are c***s. I was pointing out however, that despite all the accusations thrown at Rovers regarding 1982, some of your own fans own behaviour was despicable. So possibly a bit of whatabouterry on my part :)

They reacted well to the Snake and being relegated out of the football league by Colin Daniel wearing their kit didn't they? There's a good yardstick, plus punching horses, stewards, players in the back of the net etc with a sprinkling of racism.

We know there are idiots supporting every club in the country.

Unfortunately Rovers have more idiots than most. Anyone with half a brain cell would have given up supporting them years ago.

Now it's just stuck in the 70's ToteEnders, their kids / grandkids that have been forced to wear a clown shirt that bother, but no doubt they'll grow up disillusioned by the delusions of their elders and eventually stop bothering altogether.

Bollocks do they. No one club is any better than another.

The demise was due to long contracts and in house power struggles with the board of directors.

It wasn't the fault of the supporters. Fans didn't want to see the club die, some supporters went too far.

Rovers just wanted to see the club die and did **** all to help.

When it goes tits up with your fraudulent owners let's see how your lot react 😉

Some of whom no  doubt, still watch City and applaud the buy into the reinvented myth of the Ashton Gate 8, conveniently forgetting that they issued death threats to several genuine City legends.

You don't have to be a Rovers fan , a City fan or whatever to be a ****. This thread has been known to push the boundaries of pisstake , lets not forget just how despicably some of your own fans behaved in 1982.

I suspect this will divide opinion.

For my generation they are largely an irrelevance - just something to take the piss out of and lets face it there is plenty of material. However, i suspect you will  get very short shrift from the generation above me, who lived and breathed 1982 when they tried to strangle us out of existence.

Time has certainly warped opinions on that. City's demise was all of their own doing. I'm glad to see the Ashton Gate 8 being treated better than they were btw, by both your club and fans.

There never was, you could see there was very few in that enclosure opposite !

I think a lot of people transferred to the South to escape the rain. It didn't work though, I was in Row G and got soaked, it was a grim old night in more ways than one .

What most fans want is a club heading in the right direction and some honesty from the owners. We can't all be in the PL.

We know that if the sort of rumours on Gaschat become real, things tend to get worse before they get better.

No fresh milk is not an indicator, but losing out on decent players and cancelling team hotels for away games is not a good look, if true.

I hadn't heard any of this, but just caught a bit of what is being said on the forums, I have no idea if there is any truth in it.

However, I know a few of you aren't happy with Lansdown and am more than happy to swap.

You're the voice of reason Miah, what noises you are hearing from over there, it's all very much doom and gloom on Gas Chat, is it as bad as many on there are making out?

Same as any other club really. Couple of wins, everyone bangs on about promotion, couple of defeats, everyone wants the manager sacked. Last night, the first half was grim as was Saturday, but December- and away to Norwich and Barnsley this month there were impressive performances. Could we be dragged into a relegation battle? Absolutely, Exeter outclassed us in the first half last night. Will we get pulled into it? I don't think so, lower mid table is my guess.

Much as I dislike MK, their ground is really good, isn't it? One of the best 'new' grounds for me, and certainly one of the best lower league ones.

And you can hear the PA!!

Of all the new grounds (I've yet to visit Spurs, Brentford & Wimbledon) it is the only one I've thought didn't look like it had come out of a StadiumsRuS  catalogue. Very impressive.

I assume what "El Presidente" might have said would be "It's only temporary and eventually we will be looking to replace it with one without pillars.

However, if you look at cantilever stands, they require a lot more space at the rear of the construction, do they have that?

I suspect this is the case. As it stands, there is not enough room to build a cantilever stand at that end of the ground.

You should have also asked about Crackers Corner in the East End, just to confuse matters further.

Hopefully, someone will provide a detailed answer, but East End is a bit of a misnomer.

Does that answer your question? 😉

I'd have got a more straight forward answer from Boris Johnson :)

Why is the old Eastend called the South Stand, surely that's the north of the ground? And why was it called the Eastend!

Actually- I take that back- although the Eastend question still stands :)

The problem is phantom, it’s ok discussing it but what are the genuine options open?

Back 10 rows of the south stand? That’s the only thing I think is logically possibly, but I don’t think that would be any improvement and then you’re risking pissing off fans who have sat there for years.

The club never had a plan for where “vocal” fans should have gone from the start of redoing Ashton gate.

Why is the old Eastend called the South Stand, surely that's the north of the ground? And why was it called the Eastend!

    Just stayed over to Gaschat....

I am staggered at the confidence of their fanbase as to how their game against a Championship side is likely to go. Granted there are a few realists, but most of them seem to have this as some sort of formality.

Obviously, no idea how the game will go, what sort of sides either club will put out, but the Fewers seem convinced that this game doesn't mean much to Norwich.

How they've arrived at that conclusion is still something of a mystery.

I'll give you that, we have a chance obviously, but no more than that, its more than possible that it could be over by half time. Fair play to you ******* last night, totally deserved. Even wth a tenner on you at 3/1, I still couldn't bring myself to raise a smile though.
