  1. BRISTOL ROVERS TAKEOVER: Who are the Al-Qadi family?

An influential Jordanian family are expected to be named as the new owners of Bristol Rovers at a press conference later today.

Rovers chairman Nick Higgs is believed to have been in negotiations with the Al-Qadi family since the Autumn and a complete takeover that will see all existing directors step down is likely to be confirmed this afternoon.

The new owners are expected to outline their plans for the future of the club when they meet local press for the first time at the start of what could be exciting times ahead for all Bristol Rovers supporters.

    Who are the Al-Qadi family?

The family is headed by Abdulkader Abdullah Al-Qadi, 82, who founded the Arab Jordan Investment Bank in 1978 and continues to be a significant shareholder after growing in to a major financial powerhouse in the region.

Abdulkader Abdullah Al-Qadi has three sons, who are all expected to have some involvement in Rovers - although it will be his youngest, Wael, who will act as the face of the family as they get to grips with the business that sits in the Memorial Stadium in-tray.

Wael Al-Qadi is currently the assistant general manager of AJIB, but has a keen interest in football. He was a core team member in HRH Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein's successful campaign to be elected vice president of FIFA in 2011.

He attended Westminster School in London, where he fostered an affection for Premier League club Chelsea, before graduating from Boston University in 1991 with a degree in Computer Science with Business Administration.

He is described as 'passionate' about football and is heavily involved In little leagues and kids' football academies in Jordan.

He is vice president of the Asian Development Football Foundation, which was founded by Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein in 2012, and has also held a role on the marketing committee of the Jordanian Football Association.

BRISTOL Rovers are at an advanced stage in talks with a Jordanian family interested in making a significant investment in the club, the Bristol Post understands.

Rovers have continually made public a desire to attract new investment and recently confirmed that as many as 12 groups of potential investors had expressed interest, which failed to materialise into anything significant.

Yet, the Post has learned that Rovers have been in ongoing discussions with the Al-Qadi family, who are significant shareholders in the Arab Jordan Investment Bank (AJIB), for several months and an announcement that a deal has been signed is believed to be imminent.

The family, which is considered one of the most influential in Jordan due to their banking and tourism interests, is headed by Abdulkader Al-Qadi, who founded AJIB in 1978.

The Post understands that the investment is a "family commitment" but that one of Al-Qadi's three sons, Wael, would take a lead in managing the investment at board level.

Currently working as an assistant general manager at AJIB, Wael has a keen interest in football and has held positions at both the Jordan Football Association and the Asian Football Development Project, which was founded by FIFA presidential candidate HRH Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein.

He is a keen Chelsea supporter as a result of being schooled in London as a youngster before going on to complete his education in America at firstly, Boston University, and then, Harvard Business School.

Several members of the family are expected to be present at the club's annual Valentine's Ball tomorrow night after taking in Rovers' League Two game against Morecambe at the Memorial Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

  4. Fate can be very unkind .... they have fluked a few wins against some basement teams recently ... and suddenly they start talking about promotion and local derbys.... but they seem to forget that they have the biggest match in their history coming up next month .... so how will they get on against the mighty Sainsbury's legal team?!

If they lose that one, then once Sainsbury's have had their pound of flesh ... and Wonga start knocking on the door wanting the keys to the Mem... the next time that there will be a City v Rovers match will be a friendly on the Downs out of sympathy for them!

The Mem was listed as q community Asset months ago. There IS a link IN this thread.

Apols for the many typos the forum doesn't work properly on my tablet.

The Mem was recently listed ... but now Rovers, under the terms of the ACV have informed the council that they intend to sell ... so anyone has about a month to make them an offer!

Where's that juicy bit of news coming from Sir Colin?

Under the terms of being listed as an Asset of Community Value, Rovers are obliged to tell the council if they intend to sell ... so I was just given the heads up although it will be out in the public domain very shortly.

It is not like Higgs to keep his actions hidden from his loyal subjects!

  7. No sooner than the Memorial Stadium gets listed as an Asset of Community Value, Higgs' solicitors have just given the council notice that they intend to sell up!

So the plot thickens ... just days after Sainsbury's register a charge on the ground!

How long will it take before one of the sags reads it on here and their forums go into meltdown ..... again?!

OTIB ... always first with the breaking :gasmask: news!

  8. Whilst the sags are panicking over what it means to their future now that the minimal has been designated an Asset of Community Value, the ever so knowledgeable Finnish Gas came up with ...

"At least we have the consolation that no-one in Bristol (including the Greens) thinks Ashton Gate is an Asset of Community Value."

Let me just Google that for you  .... http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Ashton+Gate+is+an+Asset+of+Community+Value
