Back on subject really nice of the gas to build a much needed car park for the 30k students at UWE, that's community spirit indeed.

It is going to be a lot more than just a car park if Wally can't get the finances to build the new  stadium ....

  2. Sainsbury's set to raise bid as Argos takeover deadline approaches

Investors expect Sainsbury’s to offer as much as £1.5bn for Argos on Friday, as the supermarket considers trumping a rival South African bid for the catalogue shop ahead of a 5pm deadline.

I have heard they have just added on another £30,000,000 they had lying around ... and possibly the court fees as and when Wally's wallet finally opens up and settles Higgs' debts

  3. Dismissing the club's appeal, however, Lord Justice Floyd said Sainsbury's was within its rights to terminate the contract.

The supermarket chain had met its obligation to use "all reasonable endeavours" to obtain an "acceptable" planning consent for the project.

Rovers said it had "consistently pressed" the supermarket chain to back the club's own bid to lift the delivery hours restriction.

But the judge, sitting with Lords Justice Laws and McCombe, ruled that Sainsbury's had been under no legal obligation to "give its name" to the club's attempt.

The court's ruling spells the end of Bristol Rovers' long legal campaign to force Sainsbury's into going through with the deal.

The club, which was refused permission to appeal further to the Supreme Court, now also faces enormous legal costs bills.

A Sainsbury's spokesperson said: "We're pleased that the Court has robustly dismissed Bristol Rover's appeal and ruled that the conditional contract lawfully ended in November 2014.

Came to OTIB first for the stadium appeal update, so thanks guys.

    Just a quick one though:

Rovers have said that the outcome of their court case with Sainsbury's is "no longer relevant"

Bristol Rovers have suffered a major blow to their plans to build a new £30 million stadium.

This morning they lost a High Court appeal to prevent Sainsbury's pulling out of a deal to buy their existing stadium.

The on-off saga has been raging since February 2014, after Sainsbury's agreed to buy the Memorial Stadium so they could build a new superstore - only to terminate the deal a few weeks later.

Bristol Rovers claimed that contracts already signed by the supermarket meant that the deal was legally binding. But today, three judges sided with Sainsbury's saying it was within their rights to terminate the deal.

The club now faces huge legal fees as well as the loss of a multi-million pound sale, which would go some way to funding the planned stadium in Stoke Gifford.

The only comfort for Bristol Rovers fans is the new billionaire owner from Jordan, who has promised the new stadium will be built.

"We have been trading in Bristol for over 45 years and will continue to work with the local community via our existing stores which are extremely popular with customers (apart from those of a horse-punching persuasion.)"

  6. Looks like Higgs pulled a fast one over Wally!!

It was heard today that Lord Justice's Laws, McCombe and Floyd have upheld the decision made by Lord Justice Proudman and turned down Bristol Rovers appeal against that judgement.

A spokesperson for Bristol Rovers said: "We will be looking closely at the judgement to assess its implications for the Club and it's future and will make a further statement in due course."

I hope for Rovers sake that he has signed everything as we know what Rovers fans will be getting up to with their relatives at the Valentines Ball tomorrow.

Higgs was overheard saying that he had signed a watertight contract with them .... what could possibly go wrong?
