  1. If he got us into 6th place at end of this season, would you still want to get "a more progressive" one? He has dug us out of the massive puddle of brown stuff so deserves a chance to have a go to takes us back to the top tier for the first time in over forty years. That is if he wants to! PS. Would you have replaced Alan Dicks in 1974?
  2. That's good news but if (IF) we get another two or three before early October, then that drastically alters the situation.
  3. Good post. While I agree that we should do reasonably well this season with a possibility of a play off slot at the end, a few injuries like Conway and Belarus have suffered, could send us in a hurry to the unwanted end of the league table. A bit too risky? As for SL money invested/lent to buy players and more importantly, stadium rebuild. If I had 1.8 billion £'s in my back pocket, that means that his family would not starve for the next ten lifetimes, I would not even consider it as a loan with cash repaid when he demands it. The £250 million or thereabouts, spent on City, Bears and the minor things like basketball, would be a gift to the citizens of Bristol and surrounding areas. I put my spare cash of £80 into City shares in 1982 so why would a drop in the ocean matter for a multi millionaire?
  4. Thanks for your contribution to the Bell ringers society. Ding dong, ding dong!
  5. Apart from the first pass across our back four which was badly directed, I thought that he tried to play the ball forward and sideways with very few going backwards. That, IMO, is a weakness for Tanner that is probably a lack of confidence rather than not having the ability. Maybe both can help each other to improve. Overall today, a good team performance to continue as unbeaten away from home. Now the squad have to make a big effort to get wins at home.
  6. 3 away points, a decent performance by all of the squad. After the next two weeks, we need to pick up home points and give us the basis for a reasonable season in the top half.
  7. I did not say he would choose to go. But it seems to me on the cards that he will be asked to leave.
  8. If Pearson goes now, as I believe what will happen, with no more player recruitment, it's my opinion that we'll be back in League One or Third Division as I prefer it. Back where we were when I started in 1950. Eight promotions and eight relegations with just four years in the top division. SL as I understand, was an accountant at HL. Recording history and basing decisions on only them. While Hargreaves was an investor, the ones who will gamble at times to get bigger rewards. When he sells City, I'll bet that he will keep the stadium and therefore all its income from non football activities. One of his first bad decisions as a director was to vote for Pulis instead of Moyes and apart from Cotterill and Pearson, the rest have been very poor. I include Johnson senior in that even though he got us up but then couldn't handle the better quality players that he couldn't bully. I sincerely hope that I'm so wrong but I doubt it.
  9. Matt Busby said that you'll get 70,000 in a rubbish tip to watch a great team. But a lot, lot less to watch a poor team in a great stadium.
  10. Reference First Division before the 1982 fiasco. We might still have been in that place if AD hadn't reacted so badly to the first player to take advantage of freedom of movement at end of contract. The one action that caused it was giving the first teamers contracts of eight to eleven years. No FFP and owners/Directors free to put as much money in as they wanted.
  11. If I was a real cynic, I'd say that all the new signings mention it because the club suggests that it would be good to mention HPC in their arrival video. The HPC is better than previous by a long way and plenty of other clubs at our level. But we must also be a long way from what the top eight/ten Premier clubs have. My guess is that Pearson's policy of playing Academy graduates is a something that impresses the the recruits of all ages for differing reasons. Those like Wells, James, Williams and King are helping the young ones in training and the young ones realise that age is not a barrier to a first team appearance. For those reasons, I can only hope that if Lansdown is still here when Pearson does move aside, we find a manager in a similar mould of building teams instead of those who haven't a clue and who waste £millions with dross.
  12. I don't know your age but from 1974 to 1980 we had some very memorable games that all who saw them will carry the memories to the grave. Johnson manage about three with the biggest spending spree that this club has ever had. And, IMO, LJ cares only about himself!!!!!
  13. We will continue to have less space at home, so we'd better work out how to break them down. We've changed tactics since last two seasons when we were playing to entice opposition, home and away, to come at us and hit them on the break. Now we're aiming to break down opponents in midfield and touchlines and at home it ain't working. Step up the coaching staf to sort it out.
  14. That's a big relief for me and I guess thousands more. PS. Why was he subbed at half time last week?
  15. I agree. We appear not to be thinking that he is the best but one of the best in a collection of three or four since Pat Beasley. Certainly, for me the best in the last twenty five years I don't say that because of winning titles but the way he has promoted the Academy products and his honesty rather than trying to gloss over the bad performances. I've always understood that Lansdown was the accountant and Hargreaves was the investor. Accountants are those who forecast what the future will be based on historic results. Thus they never "gamble" or take a chance like the investors. Thus he has hardly ever gambled since he took over and look who he chose to gamble for him! No, it's not Pearson. We all know who it was.
  16. I believe the answer to that is a resounding NO.
  17. So you are expecting everyone in the three blocks to take part even though they don't have any idea what the display will be about. Not very democratic is it. Here's a positive guess. A big thank you to Alex Scott.
  18. Showing your age Fordy! Away midweek games were sometimes put out by ITV news when they started broadcasting but only if it was a very slow news day. The best one for me was a 7-4 away win at Barnsley given out in such a hurry at end of bulletin that I couldn't believe it was correct. When I told Dad he thought I was lying!
  19. That is , for me, exactly what happens. My dearly departed first wife said to our son when he was about six years that if City had won, was the time to ask for the world and that I'd try to get it for him. After a defeat, though, keep away from me until bedtime at least. I might be a bit calmer now as I'm an old grumpie man anyway but I still hate losing. PS. Tomorrow against one of the clubs that I detest the most in the four leagues. Example: when we were in Division One, we could beat the Liverpool's, Manures, Chelsea's, Spurs and so on but did we ever beat the Blue Noses. Last season here was a miracle 4-2 win. Can it happen two seasons in succession? My wife is already booked in to a night with one of her mates. PPS. The guy next door is a Brummie who has just had his second heart attack. If they win tomorrow, I'll make ******* sure he has another one!!!!!!
  20. Big positive changes in my lifetime. For instance, my mother ended up in Barrow Gurney Hospital,( called the loony bin by many) in her mid fifties. At least she managed to refuse the electric shock treatment which was all the rage then. What was her problem? Coping with the menopause! No medication available then unlike now with HRT readily available to help many women to cope with a horrible time for many in their lives.
  21. Hello @Porto Red I've only just seen your opening post and you can add my name to the list who are willing for you to send a private message. We all go through dark moments in our lives. My first wife took her own life so I've experienced both sides of life. So I'm always here to listen and try to help. PS. A good cry can work wonders. After the rain comes sunshine.
  22. Take her with you. She can go shopping with your debit card while you are at football.
  23. I understand your thinking that it would be good if we as a Championship club should copy a mid table Prem. There is one big problem, IMO, if we did that. Most foreign countries play "Walking Football". Pass pass and pass again. The opposition sit back, don't harry them until very close to the box. Now what happens in the Championship? IMO again it is the toughest league in the world. So would we be better if we brought in players from abroad or those like the one's we've recruited in the last two years?
  24. Our best pairing for goals over two seasons was Atyeo and Jimmy Rogers.
  25. And another big number of them in Birmingham On Sea. Oops, sorry I mean Burnham On Sea! My next door neighbours are Brummies and are quick to take the piss if they beat City. But have not been to St Andrews in their life. Detest them!
