I didn't think we looked unfit.
We didn't look like we had any game plan or ideas, or shape to our play.
When their players were struggling with cramp, we still couldn't muster any composed control of the game.
No game plan - that was what stood out for me. Why were we hoofing long, high balls that their No.6 won virtually every time? I'm a Pearson fan but the way we played today felt like we had no nous behind the way we set about the game, which is pretty puzzling.

Hard to maintain a fast pace game when your midfield is James and Williams. They have qualities but pace isn't one of them and they were at the heart of the midfield today, which is where the pace of the game is usually set.

That's the problem once people know you have money, we will probably have the same problem when/if Scott is sold
Which is partly why we have got our signings in already I guess.

Not in this case. He will be aware of his standing and his value like everyone else and know that £15M ain't going to cut it.
If he can get a massive pay rise and play regularly, which is more likely at Bournemouth, why would he care what the price is? If he fancies it then he should be thinking about himself, not what suits BCFC. Therefore it could indeed unsettle him.

Our lads seem to think they're playing for Italy. Rolling around and looking for fouls far too often.

All clubs are at it no doubt in some manner. Football isn’t for fans. It’s for greedy owners.
If SL is greedy he needs to stop being an owner.

In other words, sell a quality player and buy a load of average ones instead? How about some ambition for once?
Which is exactly what we did under LJ/Ashton. Webster, Kelly, Reid, Flint, Bryan all sold for good money and what do we have to show for it? Just hope history doesn't repeat.

Better footballer because he's scored more free kicks in a lower league? Behave.
I don't think there is any point in debating who is a better footballer. It's more about what the team needs right now. What you can say is, if you are a club say that wants to avoid prem relegation, which player will help me achieve that short term objective. The likes of Bournemouth and West Ham are gonna have one eye on making sure they stay up.
Would you rather spend £25m on a 19 year old with potential or a player that has proven they can win you games now. For instance Bowen and Maddison who were very much players who could win you a game were a good bet for a lower prem team. Whether Scott is I think is not quite so clear cut.
Similarly, could we get closer to Top 6 if we traded Scott for a couple of older players who might give us the extra push we need to get to Top 6 in the next two seasons. Dunno if Twine is that but there are probably players out there that would.

Yup. 48p a minute at peak IIRC! I suppose reading Raggy responses is cheaper!
I used to ring from the office at lunchtime. Felt quite guilty but I worked for BT so what the hell.

The highlighted point is the thing that matters most.
We aren't actually as far away as some of the doom and gloom brigade think. It will of course take a considerable amount of good fortune and periods of sustained momentum but for the last part of the 21/22 season and the majority of 22/23 performances have been there and we've more than matched every single team in the division. Burnley H and Luton A the only times we looked outclassed, Birmingham A and WBA H the only times we looked utter shite. (Though we missed a few chances in the WBA game that could have changed momentum and result there).
I don't expect anything, it's a fools game to expect anything in a game like football. But I am increasingly hopeful. We currently have 3 of the most talented prospects in the EFL on our books, (Alex, Tommy and Anis) we have a squad of model pros and leaders, Former Prem winners and a million other elements to be really excited about.
Just need everything to click into place from the stands to the pitch. Anything is possible.
Well said Nige.

Lets hope he stays another year, we could never replace him.
Can't help thinking the hype is getting a bit overdone at this point. Which probably means it is the peak time to sell from the club's POV.

I can see Scott still being here when the window closes if we stick to a £25m valuation. It may be that a club becomes willing to pay that if he continues to improve next season but I don't think he is there just yet. This is good news as far as I'm concerned as I want to see us pushing for top six next season.

Grealish bottles out so often. Passes back or falls over, looking for a free kick. I'd prefer Mahrez out there.

Fair play if thats what you believe……but Italy were not good in Euro 2021, none of the teams were.
This is similar circumstances to the Euro final. England had the better team but Italy had the mentality to beat them. If Inter can get a goal it will become really tough for Man City.

I don’t think Alex Scott is here next season without another year (at least) being added to his contract. If we don’t extend, we’ll sell. I see it as cut and dried as that, we won’t expose ourselves to next summer with one year left.
Won't buying clubs know that too and factor it in to what they are willing to pay now though?

We will get 25 million for Scott, but we will have a sell on of around 10 to 15% because if he fulfilled his potential you could be looking at 100m player and future England captain, imo
Hope you're right. I'm not convinced he has superstar potential but what do I know. I could see why the likes of Maddison and Bowen went from the championship for big fees. Standout players in terms of goals and assists. Not sure I would see that value in Alex as a fan without my rose-tints.
Only time will tell who has got it right. Personally I'd jump at £15m plus add ons.

The team finishing 3rd should go straight to the final; would make it a little fairer.
I like this idea. Let teams 4th-7th play eachother and whoever wins gets a chance against third. That way you get an advantage for finishing third and an extra play off game overall.

Scott went ahead by himself and clapped the fans. Says a lot. Best of luck Kiddo.
According to RB Scott was coming off but Williams being injured changed that at the last minute. Possibly Nige wanted to play safe with AS if possible - maybe another hint?

Whoever runs their player recruitment deserves a lot of credit for their success. Wish we could match the likes of Brentford and them on that front.
-
The single most important reason for our failure to progress has been poor player recruitment. At the end of the day it is all about having good enough players on the pitch. I'm still not sure if putting Tinnion in charge of it will prove to be the answer.
We have wasted so much money on players that have not improved the team. I'm not sure how much SL has been directly involved in that over the years but he certainly is responsible for deciding who chooses the players.

Agree with this. Though I'd like to see us in and around the top 10 all season with a chance of top 6, not just sneaking 10th at the end.
I think SL will expect this from Nige after 3 years too. I'm not sure he will extend his contract if we aren't in with a shout of top 6, rather than where we are now. I'm sure he looks at other clubs and sees what is possible. If Nige doesn't achieve a step improvement in league position I feel his chance may be gone.

She was crap in the Denmark game too. Apparently not v China but I didn't watch that one. Petulant stamp, deserves whatever stick comes her way after the hype.
