  1. I guess if you are a billionaire of a certain age and have spent £100m+ then you might want to do something that at least gives you a bit of short term interest.

If Nige was hard work, with little to celebrate on the pitch and Sky having zero interest in covering us, Lampard might be tempting.

This reminds me of a place where I used to work. Owner was overall pretty clueless but the business was making decent money (it really could and should have been a hell of a lot more). The owner then wants to make more profit, so all the management come up with ideas, R&D, more streamlined production planning, nope they don't like any of it. Next bright idea, get some consultants in for some ideas.... They go through all the processes and staff, want to change the way the business is currently working. Owner doesn't like the consultants now, they say too much and basically criticise how the business currently runs. So after spending tens of thousands for some new, bright ideas the owner is back to square one where the only way forward is "I know more than them and we will do it my my way".

The attitude just reminds me so much of Lansdown and this club.

I work in the public sector and see this all the time. Management consultants come in and write a report which usually is just a summary of what everyone already knows. Then they suggest changes which invariably aren't based on analysis, just their views. Then it gets ignored. Total waste of time and money.

Mine's definitely not. As stated elsewhere will turn up saturday to say my fond farewell to the Lansdowns and then won't return till they're gone. Considered giving them away, but I want those seats to remain empty. Pointless I accept, but it's about principles isn't it?

So, let's say the new guy comes in, we win 6 games in a row and are up to 3rd. You telling me you are still staying away?

  4. As a relative exile, down in Devon, I'm not sure how well the OTIB bubble reflects what the wider fanbase thinks. I don't personally feel the level of outrage expressed on here. It will be interesting to see the atmosphere at AG.

If a new Head Coach comes in and results improve and SL feels encouraged to spend in the next few windows I'll be ok about them moving on from Nige.

I think he was unlucky to lose his job but hey, football is full of stories like this. At another club he probably would've been sacked some time ago as he had several bad runs.

Would you be surprised if after all this talk of high press front foot football we do end up with him?

Dean Smith has just entered the betting as a favourite, probably one of the more palatable names on the list?

I can never get Dean Smith's Walsall being played off the pitch by Cotts' team out of my head whenever he is mentioned. Wouldn't inspire me in any way if we get him.

Thanks Pete. Say what you like about Sky Sports, but you're right, that was absolutely bang on summary by Ron Walker.

Really didn't think anyone at sky was capable of that depth of understanding. It certainly captures it very well.

Bring in an experienced manager then possibly not, bring in an LJ type with no Championship experience and with no sensible managerial experience then very possibly so, the Championship is a hard place to learn on the job, especially if you don’t get supporter backing early doors.

Ipswich don't seem to be doing too badly with a young coach with no Championship experience. Would prefer not to have someone like Rowett who has experience but little success.

Trouble is we know the Lansdowns will most likely pick the wrong one. Can't say I have any knowledge myself on who might be a good choice.

It’s pretty obvious that this is personal. It has nothing or very little to do with football.
Everything has been pointing this way and the lack of respect shown to NP said it all.

A very poor return for what he’s done for the club. No money forthcoming and it’s now blatantly obvious why.

Probably not a popular view, but part of any job is to build a good relationship with your superiors. If NP couldn't do this (and let's face it he has form in this area) then it is partly his failure.

We appear to be smack in mid-table again so I don't think it is unreasonable to want to make a change. Unfortunately we all know SL has a terrible track record for picking managers.

But I’m just so sick of our club achieving so little from one year to the next.....

I look at friends the same age as me who support comparable clubs and they have great stories to tell. My Leicester supporting cousins lived the ultimate dream. My Swansea mates climbed the ladder and made it to Europe. Hell, even my Swindon mates got to the PL once. What stories have I got to tell? Very little by comparison.

I would take a chance on new ownership now. It might be risky, but I’ll take that risk even if just to make supporting this club a bit more exciting.

This is a good summary of my feelings too. It is a reason why I wouldn't be that upset if NP moves on. I agree it would be a bit harsh but if he has fallen out with SL and we will only spend if we get a new manager I'd rather we moved on. I do think it takes two to tango and keeping the owners happy is surely part of the job. It is boring and predictable at the moment so a change might actually work, who knows.

  10. It's unfortunate that, if Nige needs some breathing space, we are up against Ipswich next. Much as I really dislike Swiss Tony the evidence suggests his new side are likely to help the Lansdowns out if they want to find a reason to get rid of NP.

I had a chat with Gould once and he said that top 6 was the target. That was probably a year and a half ago. I told him at the time I thought that was mad, that there was no way we were going top 6 that season. He said the owners think it's a  reasonable target.

If Pearson hasn't hit his targets, then the Lansdowns will feel vindicated in not renewing/extending his contract.

I think we can agree that Top 6 is a target we all want to achieve. If they had binned LJ earlier for not achieving it, rather than give him a new contract, then they would have half a leg to stand on.

  12. I'm actually enjoying the QFs this weekend. Normally egg chasing leaves me cold as most games seem to be decided by the ref giving penalties for things I hadn't even seen. Rules are just too complicated for me. If you don't like VAR at least the things they check are easy to understand.

Despite all that the NZ game and today's matches have been very entertaining.

  13. After a quarter of the season I think we are pretty much where we will end up, mid-table.....again.

We are the perfect example of a championship team. Can raise our game and play really well one game then play crap the next. Inconsistency is typical of this division and is the only thing you can honestly say we excel at.

No doubt there will be good days to keep us going but SL has basically ensured where we will end up by refusing to sanction any more signings.

It is hard to get excited about a season where you know we aren't gonna trouble the top six.

I wouldn't say he's better than Cotts, but Johnson's yes,

Personally I think what GJ achieved puts him ahead of SC. Mind you, if he had been backed in the transfer market and stayed longer I could've seen Cotts overtaking him. Still feel annoyed about how that ended.
