TBF, it is a bore fest again.

Only game without a goal in the Championship...so far.

I don’t have a stream and believe you. However, I think we all know we lack creativity and yet the style has picked up points despite this. It pushed a top half prem team and european winners in 2023(I am using it 🤣) for 90 min and a draw. Again not watching but it is Preston. We are going to struggle more against teams like Preston, Millwall and Rotherham until we get 1-2 better attacking players.

Another half where our main talisman is on the periphery of the game and feeding off less than scraps.

The quicker we can get to pre season and **** this system off for another one, the better. It’s clearly not going to work under Manning.

The quicker someone else starts a podcast about city the better. What a belter😂

  3. Didn’t mind him in the role off the bench and spot starts now but with his deal winding down it makes sense if we can gain some financial advantage from it. His wage and a small fee could pay the compensation and wages for Murphy for a couple years. It may not be an even trade off in the end but the point is the thousands of quid matter to us at this level.

  4. I know we bid for Azaz but I don’t think that means we’ll sign the next creative midfielder on our list. Our next target could be a striker or winger. Azaz falling through could open up some opportunity for Murphy. He sounds intelligent and confident. I hope we can see some cameos from him over the next few weeks and get a proper look at him.

Big, big step up for the lad . Not so sure he is going to feature that much in the short term

Yea definitely. Just the announcement feels like a first team signing. Not saying he won’t play some u21 games to start though I think he’ll be involved Sunday. Just think he’s been signed to play and get chances to play not develop slowly(like u21 for the rest of the season).

This would be the same Weimann who scored the one-on-one against Watford? That was exactly the sort of chance he thrives on. Plus he has been struggling with a foot injury for most of the season so far. He still has a lot to offer, if played correctly. Starting him out wide doesn’t get the best out of him. Having TGH playing balls through to him would work, but then that’s the problem. All of our forwards seem to prefer through balls to run onto rather than taking it directly in front of the defender. Only Cornick seems able to take those balls and lay it off, but he can’t score!

It was his only goal this season and more worryingly maybe the only real chance he has had.  Against a side going all out for a goal. Also, from the wide position. I’d expect most of our forwards to bury that chance.

His finishing isn’t in question much like it wasn’t for Martin. However, the legs are gone. Weimann has lost a step or two and I am not even sure he could do the pressing needed anymore. I haven’t been a fan of his for a long time. He takes so many bad touches. He kills attacks by passing behind players already on the move. Imo he killed the shape on New Years by constantly drifting inside. Yet Tanner gets the stick for passing backwards. Granted he wouldn’t take the chance to pass forward anyway but on Monday he rarely had the option in front of him.

Holding onto players like Weimann and James for performances they have had in the past is a quick way to find yourself struggling with no answers. We need better options and quickly imo. They aren’t scapegoats and can still help the squad but they need to be phased out and new options in if we want to be top 6. We’ll see if the board allow that.

I don't think people would be buying a consistent championship goal scorer though, they'd be buying his potential primarily.

I think he's got good attributes - I don't think it'd be worth selling now though as I agree with the gist of your post that we likely wouldn't get enough to make it worthwhile yet.

Regressing implies he's actively getting worse to me which I disagree with. All players go through peaks and troughs, you just have to hope the average of them is increasing. Those peaks/troughs are more pronounced with young players as well. Tommy is in a bit of a trough at the moment but it's also a tough situation on the pitch for him, and upheaval off it (best mate leaving, manager change).

    I don't think he's getting worse though, and I think he'll improve.

Idk. Can buy peaks and troughs but he has had no peak for almost a season. Of course manager change, Scott leaving and a few injuries. I just haven’t seen it from him though for near a year now. More worrying is the body language and I am not certain he is working as hard out of possession as he did before. Maybe worried about his hamstrings? Something feels off with him. Not writing him off by any means but we were relying on him this season imo and he hasn’t been close to the levels needed.

Hate to say it but I don’t think Hutchinson would have been able to do that against Chris Martin. It’s his type of player that we have failed to replace.

I agree but I still think CM’s time here had run its course. His replacement was Cornick which was more legs but less physical. It hasn’t worked out. I’m sure there are options out there that can combine a bit of both. Not even worried about goals from them if it means more space for others. But I have no examples of who we could sign

Weimann got all his goals in 21/22 as the player behind a front 2 of Semenyo and Martin. I still think he would get more goals in that position than anyone else we have. The conundrum is how to fit Knight into midfield. Perhaps a 4-3-1-2 with Sykes as a RWB, Pring at LWB and a midfield 3 of Knight, TGH and either James or Williams, with a front 2 of Conway and Wells, and Weimann just behind them. That would definitely be a team “playing on the front foot”.

Weimann scored those goals because Semenyo and Martin were giving the cbs fits. He is a couple steps slower since then and doesn’t have either of those two players or even close to occupy defenders. I think Weimann is done being a big contributor at this level.

I think we could play Conway behind Wells though as something different. The problem is you are using your only two legitimate strikers at the same time so you might worry about injuries. Conway should be fit enough and young enough to do the pressing similar to Knight but maybe make better runs into the area. I wouldn’t mind Sykes at RB but he has been our most important attacking player and no way am I moving him further back when we already struggle for goals.

  10. Cash in on what? A few goals from the penalty spot? He has seriously regressed imo and his body language hasn’t looked right all season. I couldn’t see anyone in our league or higher seriously considering him. Not in January anyway. Think the sale of Scott has maybe meant we don’t get full value on TC now but that is purely an opinion of mine.

Really bugged me how Hutchinson finished the game without getting carded, good player don’t get me wrong but with the amount of fouls he made I’d like to see how good he was on a yellow

Yep ref let them play aggressively. I didn’t mind it too much but it suits them more than us for sure. He went through the back of Conway multiple times yesterday and I felt for TC a bit as not much more he can do. Would take a different type of forward to deal with that yesterday and we don’t have that in the squad.

We've already spent 700k to loan him, so only an extra 1million to keep him.

True but that is still a good portion of money for me though. I know not every transfer is the same but I look at it like we got Brownhill for compensation and TGH is nowhere close to that level. The extra 1.3m will still be an option in the summer time. I just wouldn’t feel the need to rush that signing in January. If it is still the right move in May then by all means but I’d rather Manning decide if he is the right midfielder or not for him.

I get the feeling we won't proceed with this, think he was Manning's first choice for a number of weeks but more due to necessity than anything else. Whilst it wasn't an impressive cameo yesterday for me he's got a bit of everything, can run, pick a pass, shoot but also stick a foot in and tackle.

Can see him evolving his game and being a long term James replacement but I also wonder if he's got a bit more to offer going forwards and if that'll be a bit of a waste....

One thing I'd love to see us try and yesterday was the game to do it is dropping Knight a little deeper to play in the midfield next to TGH. Means you can have Wells/Weimann/Cornick playing centrally next to Conway and actually give the kid some help. It's clearly been identified as an issue because if you watch us, we never have two wingers playing wide, one is always tucked in as close to Conway as possible. The problem is that leaves loads of space out wide that we then aren't able to exploit! Looks very unbalanced to me at the moment, maybe the answer will be Mcrorie bombing down the wing and filling the space but I'm not convinced that'll rectify everything.

Either way, I think TGH is class and think we need to snap him up

I think Knight will eventually be deeper once we find an answer to who can press similar to Knight but add the creativity. Maybe Murphy will get a chance. I certainly don’t think we are special enough for him to not get a look in.

  14. I like TGH but the more I think about it the more I think 2m total fee is too much for him. Not convinced he is special enough to pay that. Maybe he would look better next to a more dominant figure in midfield but I just wouldn’t pay that for him.

I think if you look across the leagues there are better value for money buys. I am not rushing to sign him if we have him for the season. If we are going to spend 2-3m or more I would prefer on CBs and creative/forwards.

For example, and he could be great, 2m might be too big a fee for McRorie if he is just going to play RB. Good chance he is an upgrade on Tanner but enough to justify costing 1.7m and more wages? We will see.

On the other hand, Dickie for 750k and a slightly bigger wage but clearly an upgrade on any cbs we had in the building. My point is if we are going to be more frugal in the market then we need to be more patient on spending our millions. TGH might be our best option for midfield come the summer time. If so, then sign him up. However I think it is worth being patient in this case. If it was another 300k to sign him then different story but as it stands I’d leave it for now.

My concern is the style if football we are playing and particularly the impact it has on our crowd. Bore everyone stupid and they'll think twice about coming back

The problem with this is it completely disregards Millwall. Pretty much 541 and happy to draw 0-0 and have some set pieces with their giants all over the pitch.

Also disregards a ref that let them be physical and go through the back of our players and get away with a number of pushes in the back. No problem with a ref interpreting the game that way.

We are not a physical side and you can argue we could use a few more bigger lads. However, we don’t have them and especially up front. We also lack pace in general. To put this all on a style of play is ridiculous. This would look a lot better with Southampton’s or Leeds players. Truth is we just don’t have anyone exceptional up front. Hopefully this is addressed in January. One player of a higher level will make it easier for what we have in the squad already.

  16. In regards to Tanner, in possession we are more like a 3 with Tanner being the RCB. This might not change with McRorie fit. He may fill that role. I agree Tanner is generally passing to Vyner or O’Leary but has probably been asked to keep it simple as not really his game to pop passes into strikers feet. He defends well and doesn’t give the ball away. Think that contexts gets lost a bit.

You could tell the pitch was lively last night. First half especially you could see us being mindful of the touch but it allowed them to get tight and physical which is probably the best way to annoy us. Their athletic back 4 also stopped a lot of problems before they became problems if that makes sense. It was kind of a perfect storm to knock our attacking threat out and that said we probably had the better chances.

As said, 10 from 12 is a good return but with the form you expected 12 from 12. Imo, beat Millwall at home and it is the perfect way to go into January. 13 from 15 and most likely just outside playoffs. It could help our pitch to possible recruits and if quick we can gel a bit. We have two weeks off in the league with a big cup game in there. McRorie should get a couple weeks of training and be ready for our next league game after Millwall it sounds like. Plenty of reasons to be positive. Beating Millwall not easy but the type of team we need to beat at AG.

Sorry I stopped reading when you said Manning had to put behaviours in place.

All those behaviours were already in place. Maybe he's enhanced upon them, it's however too early too tell.

Yea the quick one touch and out of feet and forward passing was already in place. The traps we set for our press were already there. Maybe you should finish reading so you can learn something. Also, I knew behaviours would make someone bite 😂😂

Hull away? Swansea away? Plymouth at home etc etc?

Let's be realistic, it was only a week or so ago that we were looking over our shoulders at the relegation zone.

That is called the championship. Couple wins and couple losses see you fly up or down the table. It is a competitive league. Hell Pearson had a horrid run when he was caretaker but most wanted him long term.

Manning had to put behaviours in place, find his best XI and fill the forward players with confidence all with one international break going into the busy christmas schedule. You can’t seriously have expected him to pick up maximum points in that time?

At the end of the day, we are playing much more fluid and with more confidence on a regular basis. You can hear it in the ground. The football is attractive and AG is responding loudly. NP did a good job but that is achievement he didn’t come close to.

Again , missed my point which is . Without NP’s three years of firefighting  we wouldn’t be in a position to build on. Perhaps that’s what he’s good at .

Ok I didn’t read all the way through. I agree he did a fine job. I agree they botched things with his sacking. The timing and letting it get toxic was silly. Maybe could not foresee it. Maybe they didn’t like the candidates available in the summer. Idk but agree it wasn’t handled great and LM had a good base to work with.

However, I think it was time to move on to a more progressive HC/Manager. It has felt very much like NP v LM as a fanbase. I’m not anti NP in the sense that you discredit his time here. I am anti NP after 3 years and not performing any better. LM has had 8-9 games and the feel from on the pitch has intensified. The players look not only confident but like they are enjoying their jobs being on the front foot.

After all that, it still feels like a lot of you want to discredit the job LM is doing. I don’t get it
