I can’t let it be! You want a fixed point, black and white. The best you’re gonna get to a fixed point / black and white ‘date’ in reality is 3 years after he left. That’s the cycle of contracts ending that he arranged and hamstrung us. That’s why the likes of @Numero Unois suggesting summer 2024. I am of a similar opinion as to how that point is worked out. All I’m suggesting is that over-performance by the club (it’s not just a Nige-thing) can drag that timescale back to the left. But it’s not as easy to that. If we were to get relegated you could argue that it will take longer to recover. How long did other “regimes” take to recover from previous ones? Some didn’t, e.g. O’Driscoll never recovered from previous regimes. But he made it a bit easier for those who followed him, didn’t he? It’s not a simple answer, hence why we answered now we did. You just can’t say “if we get on a firm financial footing…”, because if we sell but can’t utilise it (e.g. for FFP reason) we may be financially better off, but have a weaker squad as a result. Is that recovery? FFP runs in 3 year cycles (4 because of covid) so you could argue it runs longer that we suggest. Are you saying you think the Ashton “legacy” is no more and that we’ve had plenty of time to get over his period of time here? If so, then I can’t agree. You want to move on. We still thnk it’s having a considerable impact. But as you asked for a time when we are, a few of us have given you are view. Up to you if you agree. But you asked. We answered.

So the point I responded to was about a leaky defence. One of you moves the goalposts and starts referencing our attack and the other starts talking about points gained and wins. Not you both per se, but this is typical OTIB…you widen the topic scope when it suits, but if I wanted to discuss a broader topic it gets narrowed to suit. Arghhhhh ??? Max conceding just over 1 goal p90 and also conceding less than his XG (conceded). Much better to Bents. Top Right: Max less shots faced p90 and saving more. On a hugely pedantic point, we could have NOT exercised our option, offered him a totally NEW deal, and then entitle ourselves to compo in the summer. Obviously best thing to do was exercise the option, add some power to our side of the deal. Which we did.

Might be misguided but I think we have turned the corner / beginning to turn the corner. It’s possible that my next comment might seem contradictory, but it’s now just individual errors in the main that are costing us points. Structurally we are probably not far off performing to the levels defensively where we at the start of last season, where we were solid in the main. We have to accept the quality level of our players, having no Kalas virtually all season, deprived of Baker, etc. that’s bound to have an impact. We aren’t conceding lots of chances every game (Boro away aside), we aren’t getting overrun by teams. We are pretty sound from set pieces these days. So I see that as a sign of improvement. 14 goals conceded in the last 13 is a marked improvement, 6 in 6 more recently, 3 clean sheets in those 13 games. That’s selective. But let’s see if we can maintain throughout January.

So there you have it MRR, Numero Uno suggests another 18 months.

It is possible to allow it to work the other way around too. You can give permission to talk / discuss personal terms and then go about agreeing a fee. In some cases doing it that way ensures you are negotiating a fee with a player who actually wants to go.

It feels like Wells / Brownhill and although there are financial efficiencies to be made, I feel it really narrows the pool. That’s not what I’m saying, I’m saying you can’t say until certain evidence is seen. I explained the contract cycle and typically this would require that we rebuild in Lg1. That’s why I can’t give you a black and white date. If I said to you that we sell Scott and Semenyo for £20m but weren’t allowed to spend it because we’ve done a deal with the EFL to avoid points deduction, then that greys the black and white doesn’t it. Likewise if we keep them, add a couple to make us stronger, then you could say we have started to come out the other side. Unless of course you’ve seen the accounts, know the recruitment plans, the dynamics of what outs might drive an in, then we can only reflect after events. Surely that makes sense? Not a typo ?

Just to add in the financial years that MA had a majority input, e.g. I’m not counting 15/16 as he joined part way through, so budgets already committed, so from 16/17 up to 20/21, five seasons, he presided over operational losses of £140m. We reduced that by £83m through transfer profit, but we left an ongoing wage bill commitment of £30m+ p.an and amortisation of £14m p.a for RG / NP to inherit when Holden went and he jumped shit. They started to right that in the first summer, and last year’s accounts reflect the heavy lifting that took place.
