  1. The bizarre thing though is that he hasn’t realised Atkinson isn’t.
  2. I wonder which one of his 7 “here’s what I’d do” line-ups Nige will pick, and when things don’t work out, he’ll revert to, this was the one he should’ve picked! ???
  3. Correct Monkeh, unless specific clauses are inserted, e.g. sell-on only applies if sold within the timescale of the contract length. Otherwise it keeps filtering down.
  4. I already donate to CFTs as work have them as their charity. Brilliant effort though Charlotte. I remember her doing the seats at AG. What an amazing young lady. ??????
  5. When I was up there for the double header I commented that I was surprise they didn’t have advertisement hoardings around the pitch, not just for revenue but to stop the ball going through the white fence.
  6. A time when rivalry goes out the window. Get well Nick.
  7. Good pod Dave. ?????? Mark Ashton fibbed to Ian Gay about loan fees, you can see it in the annual accounts (if you hard enough). Not really in MA’s interests to say anything other than that is it, just like on the flip-side he was happy to say we had sell-ons even though it’s “commercially sensitive”. Naive to believe him…and yet he still repeats it. If Dan Bentley got sold, we’d go at get a number one to replace him with the fee received, plus the amortisation and wages saved. For info, Baker played RCB2 as a left footer at the start of last season, to allow Atkinson to play LCB2 on his natural side. Gary is right, we do get fixated by saying left footers can’t play right side, but we have no issue the other way around. Dasilva did fine at RWB too. Pring is back “on the grass” confirmed by Nige today, but obviously after you recorded. The other consideration re Vyner or Klose is who is best to pair with new-boy Kane Wilson, who has played a fair bit at RB in his fledgling career. He’s played LB too. Do you want experience or athleticism. Partnerships can be so key. This is the first full pre-season Joe Williams has completed with us. It can be so important to build the strength over that period rather than trying to play catch-up. No talk of Alex Scott in centre midfield until you started talking about the forwards (thanks Gary)!!! You end up talking yourself into a cul-de-sac when you talk about “best eleven” and then you reverse-up when talking about having to rest Martin….that’s why you have a squad of players who can come in. It’s fine to talk about the eleven for a game, like Hull, but over a 46 game season you only have to look at minutes played to see players all get their minutes. We might start to evolve counter-attacking towards possession this season. We aren’t gonna become Swansea overnight, but the reports from Bournemouth are that we kept the ball much better…which was evident from the friendlies I watched. Spot on re compo….you’ve been paying attention! ??? Ian is right re “someone has to want to buy him”….but if you drop your asking price, you might find buyers. There’s a big difference in setting a asking price to put people off, and setting one to attract interest. What we don’t know is if Han does want to go, does he only want to go home, rather than to the best bidder. Just because we aren't open re contracts, doesn’t mean talks aren’t happening. The club have been very good in stopping stories coming out. I think the days of large signing on fees and treble wages when signing OOC are over…clubs are skint. 1.5 points a game is 69 pts, top 8/9!!! will hold Ian to his 12-14th when he’s moaning because we are 11th! ???
  8. Watford interested too. This won’t be a cheap loan, Derby paid big money…and still owe Arsenal instalments.
  9. Guess 0.08, percentage-ised (8%) ain’t far off 92.6%?
  10. Give your season ticket to someone else for that game. Think I paid about £120 for Joe for that infamous night v Swindon 3-0 in 14/15. It’s a lot of money, but it was a brilliant experience for Joe….and for me too!
  11. Looks like we are down to four players injured going into the weekend, Pring and Wilson back on the grass, Idehen played in u23s in the week:: Pre-season data filtered out.
  12. Wilson back on the grass, Pring too….Kalas and Semenyo still no clear timescale.
  13. The bigger question for me is do we play a system that gets the best out of him? Ignoring his inconsistency, too much is made of that….anyone name a 20 year old that is consistent. Yes he’s 21 now, but all his games so far have been as an 18, 19, 20 year old….nor am I expecting a “coming of age” birthday to change that much. Jeez, we’ve got inconsistency across the full range of ages in our squad, why do we pick on Massengo per se? Perhaps his range of inconsistency is wider than others? Personally I don’t see that range, I think people jump on him too readily, but that’s about opinions. The one thing he’s not is a DM. Luckily we don’t play with a single DM per se, screening the back three, nor have we for a good while either. We did play a front sweeper - I don’t think he can play that role imho if we play 3412, can he play: As one of the two? Yes, of course he can, alongside James last season he played fine, less so with Williams, and he even had a couple of good games with Scott. With Williams, perhaps both lacking a bit of positional discipline to dovetail well? As the one “Weimann”? Yes, he proved it v QPR (a) If we were to go 3421, ala Coventry last season, the “box”: you could add him into one of those two in behind a striker - as per the post above, his pressing wound be an asset I could go on about how he’d play in a back four system, but I think you’d get the best out of him in an inverted “Brownhill” role, like he played at Cardiff (a) last season. We have t really played a diamond in his time here, which was what he grew up playing. I guess in summary, he can play multiple roles. He’s a good player. Ignoring the contract situation, if he plays he needs to take his chance. Is there much if a difference in performance levels of 20 year old Massengo (as above we have t seen him as a 21 year old yet) than 21, 22, 23 year old Bobby Reid, of which some of which was at Lg1 level? It was the season before his position switch (so when he was 22 and 23) that we started to see a player who might actually break though. God, I didn’t expect it to be such a breakthrough, but he hit 4 goals in 10 starts at the start if 16/17 playing a bit more of a freer role, linking with Kodjia well. Ah well, 5 and a bit weeks to see if this drags on any longer than it has already.
  14. For once, I actually think this clarifies the position. It’ll never be black and white, but trying to block a pass or tackle an opponent and inadvertently deflecting it to a player in an offside position, should still be offside, even though the article above confuses itself with the scenarios used.

  16. It appears not…that was what was put out by Robinstv.
  17. I agree. The bit where I said “PPs distribution has its merits” was referring to spreading it out as per the new proposal…not the existing method, which is crap. Sorry if that was ambiguous. It’s just unfair. A salary cap based on turnover as per FIFA proposal or as per SCMP won’t help either, unless PPs are removed. That first season of relegation, three teams get £132m between them, there’s probably another four (one or two will’ve gone back up) sharing £90m (from previous relegations) and then 17 clubs sharing £70m (£4m(ish) each. That’s £300m carved up unfairly. This season it’s only two other clubs sharing £70m because Fulham and Bournemouth went straight back up and Cardiff only got 2 years for going up and straight back down. So…. The three relegated teams get 11x as much as the 19 (Watford, Norwich and Burnley) The two previously relegated get 8x as much as the 19 (Sheffield Utd and WBA) Its lucky some relegated clubs come down in a mess, or recruit / offload poorly, or else the playoff places would be a closed shop most seasons. There must be a narrowing of the gap. PPs are there to stop clubs going bust / get into difficulty…but that’s not to say they should be able to either count it as income for P&S for the entirety of receiving in. I do accept you have to honour player contracts, and I also accept you can’t you force a player to take a relegation wage cut. But you could say to the club something like. You can use PPs as income in your P&S return for the first year you are down to cover existing contracts, but you’ve 12 months to sort out. Needs a bit more thinking, but something of that ilk as a starting point.
  18. The key is to let him speak. I said earlier this week I thought he sounded Frustrated on 20Man, but in control. Today he sounded chilled as well as in control. Bodes well.
  19. I’m gonna get a half and half version, that’ll confuse them!
  20. I still can’t believe how quickly Ayman progressed last season. Obviously talented, but I do think giving him (and others) a big opportunity to train day to day with the first team (and a first team with the right guidance) has sped up his development. I really was excited for him this season. Wasn’t expecting him to become a regular starter, but get more and more minutes. Such a shame. Happy birthday young man, hopefully he has a Weimann-like recovery.
  21. I’m with @ExiledAjax, goal difference has a big correlation to where you finish, and City improving that will make a big difference.
  22. Thankfully he didn’t stay long enough to complete that transition!
