To be fair, Rooney getting that job has less to do with him being white and more to do with a) Him knowing Dewsnip and b) More importantly, him being Wayne Rooney. Football chairmen are largely fans at heart and if the opportunity came to employ one of Englands greatest ever players at your club, then Plymouth aren’t the only ones who’d take it over coaches who seem more suited.

A better comparison is probably Edwards being appointed at Millwall or Foster at Plymouth. But, at the higher levels more often managers are sourced either with experience or as a coach from a top level club. The question I’d be asking is at the more lower levels, where there are naturally more coaches given a “start”, and you don’t tend to get people like Rooney starting out so the stardust aspect is removed, why aren’t more black coaches being given a chance there?

It isn't what you know it's who you know is the very definition of subconscious bias.  The problem he has, is to get the right job at a lower level, you don't want a thankless task it will screw you forever.  You want an underachieving team that you can augment to get the most out of them.

People get really funny about black coaches claiming that they get fewer opportunities but I look at Rooney getting the Plymouth job today on the back of pretty awful win ratios at DC United & Birmingham & you just know Euell wouldn’t ever get a third or fourth chance.

At present despite being eminently qualified, he’s clearly finding it hard to even get his first.

    Wish him well.

I said exactly the same, how the hell is Rooney in a job and Euell out of a job.

There are some decent black managers that are out of a job that deserve more.  Even Rooney was shocked on the TV he got the job, there were lots of applications and I got the job.

  3. It's odd, considering all the talk last season about how Plymouth have selected their managers carefully and have been making good use of data driven performance metrics.  Wayne's a bit of a wedge.

His agent is doing overtime - trying to whore his client for the biggest pay day and feeding stories to his little black book of journalists. He wants him to get the Chelsea job, a club he's been sucking off the teet of for years.

FWIW, the feeling amongst a few people usually 'in the know' in Ipswich is that McKenna is waiting to see what happens with Man United. If he gets offered that job he will understandably go - that is the one he ultimately wants despite what his agent is pushing. If he doesn't get offered that job, then he signs the huge new contract on the table. This piece (despite being The Sun) is where I am at with it - https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/28077096/kieran-mckenna-chelsea-man-utd-brighton-comment/

I guess we will see, but we really don't need this rumbling on.

    The Sun are a nonsense

We have also missed out on fights that should have taken place. Usyk stands out as being the best, by some distance.

He only beat fury by a round or two - he is clearly the best. Fury is clearly no 2. Then theres the rest.

My problem with this era of heavyweights is there have been many fights not made due to mostly the bent as **** WBC.

Wilder was protected by the WBC and I think poor old Joe Joyce was robbed of a shot or two, as were other fighters.

Joshua has been badly mismanaged he's fought anyone and everyone with what wasn't the best backroom staff.

Usyk is awesome love him, Fury liked him to start with but he lost me at the point he got big and opened his mouth.

There's so much bollocks with PPV fights that shouldn't be PPV, I really like what Boxxer are doing lots of world titles on normal premium TV.

But I thought other City players did…Meerholz and Hewlett for example, and Skinner to an extent (first time I’ve seen him).

I like Meerholz and Hewlett (maybe coz I remember his dad playing for us).  Not seen much of Skinner either.

Could you maybe wish for us to sign Phil Foden tonight? 🤞

Who needs Phil Foden when we've got our own in Morrison ❤️ that made my day yesterday.

  8. I was a bit gutted that a renewed deal wasn't mentioned in the list of 10; he's on a two-year first-pro deal that ends in 2025. I'd hedge that he's going to break into the first team this year, maybe, so tying him down to a further two years can hurt.

My opinions are probably biased because I'm friends with family of Furys and have met him a few times in pasding. I have nothing but good things to say.

You have to remember part of it is all an act and also the mental illness.

Just find it very bizarre how a British person would actively support the opponent.

When he used mental illness to distance himself from the spiteful bigotry that came out of his mouth post the klitschko fight he lost all respect from me.

    I enjoyed that.

No way at all that Tyson won.

Best he could hope for in the end was a draw.

But the most bizarre thing is so many British people so against a British boxer.

It's because he's a classless nob, and what comes out of his mouth is just embarrassing.  He's done some great things but first decent elite boxer he fights he loses.  Wilder was always a easier route to a world championship.  And he thought he'd outsize rather than out box Usyk.  As a person who suffered with severe depression and anxiety, it never made me come out with shite like a woman's place is in the kitchen, that's not because he's depressed and anxious it's because he's a horrible biggot.  I've not supported him since those tirades and never will.

Did you mean shit hot? 😉

FWIW, I don’t think Pato was brilliant, had some flaws, but on the face of it, I’m not sure it’s easy to to say one way or the other.  Neither like a tackle! 😀

Let's face it: Pato isn't built for a tackle, and Twine might lose a veneer.  Cut them some slack, will you?  Personally, I prefer Pato to Twine. I was quite sad to see him go, but he was expensive so I get it.

Only have to look at Man Utd to see what can happen when you dont!!!

 Man Utd has been delinquent for many years, they have a very different problem.  They have a leadership issue and too many big names that are an incoherent mess.

If only these jobs were available when I’d just finished studying Maths and Stats….30+years ago.  Then again, computers weren’t even that big a thing back then!

The salary will probably be in line with 30+ years ago too! 🤣🤣🤣

Great opportunities though for the right person(s).

I just gave my son my first programming book, from 39 years ago.

I get that but it's laughable that he gets more blame than Lansdown.

He does from me, he knew hard times were incoming and having made a shit appointment through a vigorous process jumped the sinking ship like a rat.  Leaving us with a 3 year rebuild project and then Brian and father and son Lansdown gets the blame for the Pearson debacle.  Both things can be true, he can be a *** and the Lansdowns can be useless.

Still makes me laugh when a Preston scout came to watch our (Brislington) centre-forward, who was banging them in for fun.

Asked a fan which player was the one he was watching, and saw a prematurely greying striker being pointed out, and asked how old he was.  About 30 was the reply back.  Scout got in his car, effing and jeffing, and drove straight off.

Hahahaha maybe this Pearce guy is the next Vardy we don't know, but at 28 he's not one for the future.  That being said that's a lot of goals, but very much doubt he's on anyone's radar.

If I was really cynical, I might suggest that turning a business with £9m in debt to one with £200m might counter some of that positive feeling?

I've never really been all that nervous about the Steve's stewardship, however as hes handed over the running of the club to Jon I'm increasingly worried.  Not only is Steve getting older and older and nobody lives forever, the amount of debt the club has is quite high.  I want to know what happens to all that debt owed to Steve.

We’ve already been in that division, let’s not go along with the Sky Sports re-written history

Absolutely we've been top division before, admittedly not in my time as a City fan, Jesus I was in primary school when we were last top flight ✈️
