I’m confused.  Are you saying it was nepotism or it wasn’t?  It was fitness and, as someone else has suggested, a bit of a thirst.

Oh he had a thirst, it wasn't nepotism.  We used to share a hairdresser and he told me he used to come into the hairdresser halfcut before a matchday.

  2. All the people saying Noble was sidelined because of nepotism it was because of his drinking and inconsistent play.  He was gifted but if was down to nepotism when he left us he dropped down and played for Exeter.

I remember a couple of seasons back, we had 3 games in a week and LJ said he’d picked 3 separate teams.  I thought that was bonkers.  What if the player you chose to say play games 1 and 3 bangs in a hatrick in game 1?

Lees philosophy was very different to Nige though, big squad lots of rotation and setting up differently to exploit the other team's weaknesses.   Nige is more a lean fit squad small amounts of rotation and playing a similar way week in week out.  I like both philosophies to be honest but I know what is more affordable and consistent ?

  4. If we're honest 200k or 3.4m they are both tiny amount of cash to you top premiere league teams.  I think the reason most of the top teams field weakened squads is fixture congestion with lots of them competing in European cups as well.  They cut their losses on the domestic cups if they think it will.benifit them in the league in Europe.    That's the Europa prize money minus the tv revenue, you see why the domestic cups get a poor priority.

    Badly.

In his first stint he was fine, second stint he went down hill fast.  I cut him quite a bit of slack, but he turned out bad, Holden I have no idea what he was aiming for.

Where were you in the ground?
I decided to stand in the terrace next to the Newport fans - there was an incredibly embarrassing group of them, dressed like tramps, who spent all game shouting ‘wan***” and “paedo” at a group of +80 year old FGR fans. Hilariously embarrassing.

But yes, Wilson was good. Two fantastic assists.
Ebou Adams was very good too.

He did well at Afcon as well

Just like football has the same issues of racism as the rest of society . But in this case football chooses to do something about it .

Football is a source of role models . You are saying it’s just business as normal then . Football carries a greater responsibility as it has visibility. Football has a problem because it chooses to tackle some subjects such as racism with justified vigour but plays lip service to violence against women .

I totally disagree with you brushing it under the carpet . It is exactly what is wrong and why more needs to be done .

I didn't say brush it under the carpet, I disagree with making it all about football when there are plenty of bed eggs in society.   Football can still set an example, but using language like they are molly coddled, rich young men, forgets that some of these young men come from abusive homes, and then happen to be rich, its a much more complex conversation than that,  football makes a nice little societal scapegoat, but in reality its just a more visible part of society.

GoodWillie , Mendy and Greenwood sharing the  headlines on the same day . Football really has got to get its act together . It has pushed heavily kicking racism out of sport , justifiably. Could we now see a much stronger concerted effort at kicking rapists and violence against women out of football and a greater support for keeping women safe . It just seems to me these issues get brushed under the proverbial carpet after the initial outrage with no ongoing efforts or attempts to raise the profile/impact of these incidents made .

In an age when everyone seems to be outraged at verbal abuse and opinion, how can such physical abuse against women not carry a stronger , more visible and ultimately consistent wrath . Leading to change .

Huge complex subject . But something has to change and football needs to do more .

I disagree, I think the high profile nature of football means it gets more attention when things like this happen, I don't think it has a problem anymore than any other workplace, just the men concerned are celebrities.  I cant remember the study but something like 6% of men showed a predilection to rape, that's a lot of men.   It's a societal issue, I think the celebrity of these individuals help shine a light on it, but lets not kid ourselves "Football" has a problem.

The injuries sustained would be at a ABH level. But that’s not the offence he needs to be worried about.

At this particular moment, given what we’ve seen (heard) it’s hard to see how he’s going to avoid a substantial stretch.

The pictures doing the rounds show bleeding and rather nasty bruising that is GBH he's in a whole lots of trouble for that alone, I've litterally seen the pictures thats it, I'm not intrested in reading the comentry.

The problem she might have though (Not a lawyer) by not  going direct to the police is this could predudice her case and it might not be prosecuatable which ever way you cut it thats a trip to a crown court.

I’m gonna be picky here, selective if you like.

I really don’t think last season counts…it was preparation for this season, it was about getting it over and done with so the rebuild could start.  It couldn’t start with the old building in place, it had to be demolished in the summer.

We are starting to see what an experienced manager can bring to a rebuild.

I agree the injuries were there, the spirit was done, some players heads were some place else.  It was a mess,  makes this season all the more sweet.

Without offending the Swedes on OTIB, look at their top division.  How much calibration was made for Engvall and Eliasson?

If we assume the outlier is Malmo, then IFK Göteborg & IFK Norrköping are in the right of that cluster meaning Engvall having scored 16 in 64 was a massive gamble considering that league is closer to L1 than the championship so it would be a bit like signing a prospect from L1 with that record and would explain why he struggled as much as he did.

I thought I’d just give you the simpler version initially.  You can see the full distribution in this one.  Credit to Peter Loehmann, a Danish Sheffield Wednesday fan.  He is a whizz with this stuff.

Thats cool, I like it :) Scotish Premiership 2 glaswegian outliers.

    You are probably right.

The fact that the Irish League doesn’t feature on this list of leagues yet Lg2 does, probably gives added weight too.

I use this when looking at the relative strengths of players in other leagues.

Seen a few comments that Timm Klose is past it because his performances following his return from a bad injury at Norwich in 19/20 weren’t that great.  But, you have to look at Norwich, they were a struggling PL team at the time, so you have to factor in that.

Then he spends a season at Basel (20/21).  Basel finish 2nd in the Swiss top flight, albeit miles behind Young Boys, so how does the Swiss League compare to the Championship?  A top team in Switzerland is probably mid-table (just top-half) in the Champ.  So looking at that, signing Klose has some merits, as we are a bottom half Championship side.  The bigger questions are his fitness, readiness, etc. His height and experience woukd be of use to us at the mo’ too.

We can be too scientific on this, but its a useful way of looking at things.

That is rather awesome, its a shame it doesnt show the distribution of teams across that band though :( it does show you that all the championship sides would comfortably compete in the Scotish Premier though and the top teams like Fulham etc would compete quite well in the Italian or French top flight vs almost certainly will get religated from the English premier.  I like that chart.

Don’t ever recall Akinfenwa, but do remember Jermaine Easter & Michael Mifsud being told to eff off by GJ because they didn’t seem to be joining for the right reasons.

Been commented on numerous times but we have much to do to improve our scouting & recruitment set up.

It was after he had left or was due to leave Swansea and we had a look at him and said no, one of the GJ interviews mentioned he didnt like his attitude even though he was available for free, I rememer those two as well now you mention them, and this one http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/b/bristol_city/7521310.stm :)

I wonder how much conversation re a signing is asking the player how they think they will fit in, what they will bring, what they know about the squad, system, etc.

Gary Johnson used to be like that early in his time with us.  If the player didn't fit attitude wise he wasn't interested and would abort a transfer the big one that stuck out as Akinfenwa.  Later on he recruited more based on talent and that's where things started to fall apart for him.  I think there is a third element of the manager and whether they have to compromise on their principles to land talent or not.  I get the feeling Nige isn't much for compromise.

He really is an obnoxious *****.

Everything about him screams Tony Pulis, including the vile South Wales accent.

As for us (can’t comment specifically on a game I only saw the last 15 minutes of) we are making progress but conceding a goal in 25/28 games is really very poor.

The best sides always have a chance if they limit the opposition to one goal at most, I do appreciate we are blooding defenders like Pring, Atkinson & Tanner with no prior Championship experience, but we need to do far better collectively than this.

    He boils my piss too.

That we can play an 18 and 20 year old in midfield against a physically imposing and heavy running Luton and we control a lot of the game tonight.  Credit to HNM and Scott, they did really well in there tonight.

Another glimpse of what Williams can bring though in his 15 minute cameo too.  Need to take it easy with him though.

Thought Vyner had a good game too.  His tenacity against their strike pair resulted in lots of balls win back, often with the two youngsters nipping the loose ball away.

I think Weimann just mistimed his header, turned his head just too early.  Angle virtually impossible for Wells, he wasn’t heading it across for Nahki, he was trying to score.

O’Dowda good first half too (hes due an injury now), as did Dasilva, who generally had a tidy game.

I agree with all of this, loved HNM's game fav was him leaving a bit on one of the Luton boys, he was not afaraid.

Scott, he just gets better and better that boy, when you took the ball on the drop, and started to run with it, just wow.

Vyner for me had a good game, and I liked the way he played the ball out at times and picked up in midfield on a few occations.

Sad we lost yes, sad about the nature of the goals, though I feel the ref was letting a lot of the physical stuff go from Adebayo which was poor, that being said we were all over the pace for the second goal, got bullied and it went in.  But if we can fix that space, we are going to be a decent top half of thje table side in 12 months again some of the play in the first half was sublime.
