I'll be at "Big Tesco", Ocotal Way tomorrow Shaun. I havent seen anything apart from Easter Eggs and Fosters on sale for a week. Its ridiculous.....and now I need food

That Tescos was nearly as bad this morning as shoppers were outside at 05.40!

Still no rice, pasta, frozen Fish, baked beans or porridge oats today and we tried three separate supermarks so hope you have more luck tomorrow and if its beer you're after even that had been ransacked......but there were toilet rolls?

Irrespective of the different spaced scale and what happens next, looking at our 233....that’s second to Spain alone.  We shouldn’t be proud of that.

Without getting political, our Government have done some good things, but if we were benefiting from learning from other countries ahead of us, we should be doing better imho.

Maybe we are about to try shit-scaring the country back into their homes.  If we are, we need to be tougher, because too many are ignoring the “advice”.

Something has to change as this morning there were approximately 500 shoppers outside the Asda Walmart in Swindon at opening time and no doubts the same in every Town & City across the UK and not one was two metres apart and a teen the moment did they care as food was their priority. Carry on like this and potentially we could overtake Italy

Just Read this and copied and pasted it

Good read from an immunologist at Johns Hopkins University

Not really feeling sick and do not want to be..but if you are feeling confused as to why Coronavirus is a bigger deal than Seasonal flu? Here it is in a nutshell. I hope this helps. Feel free to share this to others who don’t understand...

It has to do with RNA sequencing.... I.e. genetics.

Seasonal flu is an “all human virus”. The DNA/RNA chains that make up the virus are recognized by the human immune system. This means that your body has some immunity to it before it comes around each year... you get immunity two ways...through exposure to a virus, or by getting a flu shot.

Novel viruses, come from animals.... the WHO tracks novel viruses in animals, (sometimes for years watching for mutations). Usually these viruses only transfer from animal to animal (pigs in the case of H1N1) (birds in the case of the Spanish flu). But once, one of these animal viruses mutates, and starts to transfer from animals to humans... then it’s a problem, Why? Because we have no natural or acquired immunity.. the RNA sequencing of the genes inside the virus isn’t human, and the human immune system doesn’t recognize it so, we can’t fight it off.

Now.... sometimes, the mutation only allows transfer from animal to human, for years it’s only transmission is from an infected animal to a human before it finally mutates so that it can now transfer human to human... once that happens..we have a new contagion phase. And depending on the fashion of this new mutation, thats what decides how contagious, or how deadly it’s gonna be..

H1N1 was deadly....but it did not mutate in a way that was as deadly as the Spanish flu. It’s RNA was slower to mutate and it attacked its host differently, too.

    Fast forward.

Now, here comes this Coronavirus... it existed in animals only, for nobody knows how long...but one day, at an animal market, in Wuhan China, in December 2019, it mutated and made the jump from animal to people. At first, only animals could give it to a person... But here is the scary part.... in just TWO WEEKS it mutated again and gained the ability to jump from human to human. Scientists call this quick ability, “slippery”

This Coronavirus, not being in any form a “human” virus (whereas we would all have some natural or acquired immunity). Took off like a rocket. And this was because, Humans have no known immunity...doctors have no known medicines for it.

And it just so happens that this particular mutated animal virus, changed itself in such a way the way that it causes great damage to human lungs..

That’s why Coronavirus is different from seasonal flu, or H1N1 or any other type of influenza.... this one is slippery AF. And it’s a lung eater...And, it’s already mutated AGAIN, so that we now have two strains to deal with, strain s, and strain L....which makes it twice as hard to develop a vaccine.

We really have no tools in our shed, with this. History has shown that fast and immediate closings of public places has helped in the past pandemics. Philadelphia and Baltimore were reluctant to close events in 1918 and they were the hardest hit in the US during the Spanish Flu.

Factoid: Henry VIII stayed in his room and allowed no one near him, till the Black Plague passed...(honestly...I understand him so much better now). Just like us, he had no tools in his shed, except social isolation...

And let me end by saying....right now it’s hitting older folks harder... but this genome is so slippery...if it mutates again (and it will). Who is to say, what it will do next.

Be smart folks... acting like you’re unafraid is so not needed right now.

    #flattenthecurve. Stay home folks...

A great post and a really interesting read and thanks for sharing

As Boris has said - at least 12 weeks before we can see some sort of light at the end of the tunnel - but meantime, if we can get the testing done to identify any retrospective cases, it would help enormously.

Let see hope so as we have no idea how the UK will cope if we see numbers dying similar to Italy's

Leeds were in there in early 90s. As was I. Not a peep out of the locals. Leeds taken out and marched around the pitch and onto Stratton bank. Locals find their voice! Swindon win, though (good side. Hence the visit).

In early 80s, City were in the main stand, unchallenged. It changed from taking yer end (boot boys), to larging it in your seats (casuals, in golf clothes!)

I remember City casuals with golf clothes and wedge hair cuts in the Arkells stand in the early 80's

With all due respect, taking the Town end was a walk in the park, we got far more issues at Oxford and Newport

I never witnessed that in all the matches I saw between the two clubs only Pompey once or twice but granted you rearranged the concrete in the old shrivenham road stand and kept the local glaziers busy in the Town centre

I was there as well. Used to get about a bit back in the day.

As a Swindon fan I went to all the City matches at home from the late 70's onwards and they were always really lively. Also went to Elm Park and found their lot rather quiet and not really a Derby compared to you guys the Gas and Oxford

    Good to hear.

We are generally welcoming to (sensible) fans on here as well. You won't find that with the 15ers.

It's a great site and love the banter and we should know as we've been the brunt of it for a years but I genuinely have an affection for you lot and seen many games at the gate over the years

  9. Swindon fan here and the reason the Gas don't have as many threads as OTIB is you're a much bigger club than them so have many more followers but when you do have the odd blip the other half don't hang around  in taking the mickey so it's not all one sided and what makes this site so appealing to me and many other non City supporters is the professionalism and humour you guys provide without there being any malice

Swindon fan here nobody our end had any interest in the game last night and that included the manager hence why some youth players were included. As above comments have said the competion is a complete waste of time and games are treated as friendliest so it could never be deemed as a derby match

Also saving their money for Salford on Saturday with over 1350 tickets sold and much more appealing than a meaningless game against the Gas
