Coventry away in 77 was my first ever away game so I remember it very well. My Dad would not go unless we got tickets as he new it was possibly going to hit capacity. Tickets were only issued for the stands in those days, not terracing. The initial allocation was 4500 tickets, I remember being gutted when they sold out. City then obtained another 3000 tickets in the Sky Blue stand, luckily we got a couple before they also sold out. So 7500 in the stands plus those on the terraces at both ends. I think a good 50% of the attendance was a realistic estimate. Not bad for a Thursday evening. A previous poster asked how so many got there. I remember the Evening Post reporting that coaches had been hired from as far away as plymouth. On the M5 we passed cement mixers with city scarves hanging from the wing mirrors and even a tarring truck with heat vapour still coming from the tar. It really was a surreal day, probably never to be repeated.

That's how I remember it as a little un, half the crowd were City. Absolutely bonkers night.

I don't think 17,000 reds is at all an unfair estimate.

  2. Just been having a read of the 'Amber's KUMB forum and there seems to be a real feeling among their support that we 'rough housed' them. Given VAR was active for this game and we didn't have too many bookings, surely that answers their moaning and they're no longer used to a bit of physicality in the money league?

I can't say I noticed us being particularly physical, certainly not dirty as they're saying.

Buzzing we’ve already played Hull twice this season!

                         Connolly

    Philogene       Delap        Carvalho

That is a ridiculous attack for what is currently a midtable side, can see them making a push second half of the season, but with the amount of loans they have it would be Sheffield United v2 in the prem next season for them!

    Delap is injured isn't he?

Would be..... interesting :boxing: and a possibility

Could we put some temporary pillars in the Atyeo and remove all the facilities to make them feel at home? Put 1000 reds in beside them and they'd crap themselves, so that would help.

Spurs villa ( if we get large allocation ) or united for me , tbh not many teams in lower leagues beat prem in a reply usually get one chance only let’s hope I’m wrong

Absolutely, we need to think about Preston, then having another go at West ham which is a very tough ask.

  6. I want Spurs away, IF we can get past the replay. Another massive away following and I might get a ticket this time.

Be nice if we finally got to go to Old Trafford for the first time in 45 years too.

I actually thought Conway slipped but maybe I'm wrong.

I don't think roughing up a team necessarily means fouling them. Fact is Pring clattered a couple of their players leading to one needing a concussion test and one going off injured.

Not usually our style but in a cup tie away to a Prem team, you absolutely love to see it.

Moyes wasn't complaining about it either, to his credit.

Interesting, I didn't think we were any more physical than usual but bow to your opinion.

What would they have made of a Warnock team? Now they were physical.

Anyone got any tissues for this West Ham fan?

Good F.A. cup tie, two teams of vastly different talent, skill and capabilities levelled by one side resorting to the traditional dark arts.

Liam Manning, hang your head in shame. You've embarrassed youself today. You did the easy bit, spotting how vital Coufal is to us going forward, and consequently he was targetted. Mind you, poor old Mavropanos really bought a stinger from the Bristol City thug who went full Harry Kane, backing into him mid air. Thats ghe sort of snide tackle that did for Winston Reid.

As for your muggy supporters singing a tired old ditty about us selling our soul, enjoy your day out, but dont be rushing to book time off for the next round.

A muggy club from a dull corner of the kingdom.

I've got some gone off grapes I can send him!

Funny how so many of his fellow Londoners are heading for OUR 'dull corner of the kingdom' too.

I do hope he doesn't get too bored in our City IF he heads West for the replay.

  9. Just watched 2 West ham fans game summaries and both thought we were over physical / dirty. Maybe that's a Premier league thing as I didn't think we were any more physical than usual. Is tackling not allowed in the Prem then?

Both reviews I watched think TC should have seen red then contradict themselves saying Harry Kane has been doing it for years, very strange.

While both were complimentary about City, it appears the physical rules are different in our respective divisions and they don't like it up 'em. Not West ham like at all.

Nice and physical at the Gate then. 😀

It's been pointed out this is our biggest away following probably since 1977.

Now it's sold out at 60k+ it must also be the biggest crowd we've played in front of outside a final for a long while too...

On Jerry's interview, they said biggest away following since Anfield. I'm pretty sure we didn't have over 9k there (I was at Anfield) so it's the biggest (apart from finals as you say) since Highfield Road I would think.

A lot can happen in 30 minutes, mind. As Cloughie famously said: It only takes half an hour to muster one shot on target .....

I think they gave up tbh and looked knackered as soon as the first goal went in.
