Birmingham City away match thread
pillred replied to Jerseybean's topic in The Havanatopia Match Day Archive
Amazing to think 4 games ago we had a chance to go joint top had we won and now we are barely above the relegation places, how quickly things have changed but then again it would not be city if they made it easy for us would it. -

They certainly have the Indian sign on us I agree, they have been terrible lately and yet I would not put money on us to beat them when we meet. -

Birmingham along with Wolves and Leeds seem to be clubs who no matter what bad form they have been in leading up to playing us and usually with their manager under pressure somehow suddenly play like world-beaters and get a much-needed boost after playing us. I have a horrible feeling another of those clubs that you can add to the list WBA will do the same when we play them, it's almost like we have lost the game before we even kick off against certain clubs daft as that may sound, I'm sure that there are clubs that hate playing us as well for the same reason. -
Ivan Toney must have watched a few JET pens I reckon.

Good luck with that. -
More sussed I think, I thought that on the way home from the game yesterday, teams know we try to play out from the back push up on us and force errors of which yesterday there were plenty.
-
Who said I was referring to the current results, I was talking about our tendency to have long spells of success followed by frequent spells when we go on LONG losing runs which we have done on numerous occasions in the last 5 years.
-
why is it even during games such as today we started so well didn't score conceded then looked a completely different team? another example under at least three different managers we have had really good spells of form followed by long losing runs yes, I know this is the Championship before some smart ass reminds me, but we do seem to be more of a Dr Jeckel and Mr Hyde side than most.

Does the saying De Ja vu sound familiar? -
There are similarities with him and our other "flair" players Lee Trundle and Lee Tomlin, it seems that spark of genius rarely comes with a work ethic the term flawed genius comes to mind.

Yet another example of "progress" being the exact opposite in practice, should have just improved (rebuilt) it with maybe traffic able to go both ways.

Well, the book is a bit boring. -
Yes but they forgot to add the ("we made of ourselves")

When you next have a bet can you tell me what it is so I can do the exact opposite .

Hard to disagree with any of that, sat in the duke tonight watching and thought we are one of the favourites in the world cup, how has a team that nearly won the Euros recently and got to a semi-final of the world cup in 2018 sunk so low, tonight was bloo*y embarassing. -

There has been a very large rise in cases over the last 3 weeks (42%) on the 15th Sep for instance there were 3,000 cases on the 16th 15,000 so yes unfortunately it is, though hospitalisations and deaths are thankfully much lower than they were. I read talk of cases reaching record levels by the end of Oct beginning of Nov, let's hope not. -
This reminds me of a joke I heard once, what's so special about Shakespeare anyway half of what he came out with is just a lot of everyday quotes and phrases.

As a club we are in a classic catch 22 we can't seem to get promotion because as soon as we get a half decent player or players as is the case at the moment, they attract bids from other clubs leave us and we have to start all over again, in my previous post I listed 3 players that had we been able to keep them we might well be playing at a higher level I realise a lot of clubs have the same problem but some have somehow held on to their top players just long enough to get there.
-
If we could keep hold of them long enough to actually benefit us, and by that, I mean getting to the next level and not just generating money for the club which whilst good for them doesn't exactly do the likes of us much good does it when all it means is we get to see them doing great things at another club. I have grown a little weary of it in the last couple of years Lloyd Kelly, Josh Brownhill, Adam Webster, I could go on but I'm sure you get the picture.
-
I take it you are too young to remember 1976 I do and believe me if we ever do get promotion to the top flight you will remember it in every detail and as you say for all of us it would be the pinnacle of our city supporting life, it's been 42 years away from it far too long.
