Six points we need at most, we win two on the bounce now guarantee there will be a play off thread.

There is a huge “ however” here ! Namely that we’ve averaged just 2.3 shots on target per game since Boxing Day and have scored from 23% of those shots . We aren’t picking up six points against Boro and Southampton with those stats so the games against QPR and Sheff Weds will be crucial .

  2. I really don’t think we can afford to be too blasé about our likelihood to go down even with one relegation spot all but decided already . Plymouth will go above us if they win their game in hand and Blackburn and Birmingham will be within one win of us if they win theirs . Add in the fact that we’ve got Southampton and Boro coming up , the game against QPR could become a must win ! If we don’t , we’ll be well and truly in it so any “ we’re safe” arrogance is a very dangerous thing .

  3. Lost what little faith I had in Manning . We are destined to drop like a stone down the table . Manning had us playing his desired possession football ( not brilliantly) and clearly coached the side to play that way since day 1. I can only presume he did so with the understanding that a capable no.9 would be joining in January to be the missing piece of the jigsaw . We didn’t sign said no.9 and now Manning simply doesn’t know what to do . He knew we’d never score against Leeds with just TC up top so reverted to two up top last night even though we hadn’t played that way since Pearson left . That didn’t work either so went back to 1 up top with Knight not knowing whether he was supposed to support TC or drop back into midfield again . Now Manning has a huge issue as he clearly knows we’re not good enough to play with just a lone striker but it’s the only way they’ve been coached since he got here . Change the style and risk looking like a t@@t in the eyes of the players or stick with what doesn’t work and risk looking like a t@@t in the eyes of the players . He’s in a bit of a pickle !!!

What about pooling Parachute and Solidarity Payments and paying by divisional weighting for the current formula?

Or only counting the amount of Parachute Payments equal to Solidarity Payments in FFP returns.

Hopefully the incoming Football Regulator will impose a solution if PL clubs won't budge.

They definitely need to consider options along those lines that’s for sure . Perhaps the option to waive the handicap if they donate the parachute payment to the solidarity pool instead ? If they choose to keep it then accept the handicap !

  5. Scrapping parachute payments would indeed bankrupt several clubs and potentially cut the Prem loose completely unfortunately as Clubs just could not risk going up !  Relegated Prem teams should be handicapped for as long as they’re still in receipt of the payments in the Championship. Eg year 1 = -10 points year 2 = -8 points and year 3 -6 points as an example .

  6. Our squad is still paper thin and Still includes least five or six that either aren’t or are no longer Championship standard ( Bell, Mehmeti, Cornick, Wells, King,James). Add to that 3 or 4 lads on the bench EVERY week who have never kicked a ball and you can clearly see why we’re very likely to finish around 15th-18th once again ! Massive overhaul started with the signings of Stokes, Murphy and Bird but need to ship all the above out in the Summer to bring in more fresh blood if the Lansdowns are serious about pushing on ! ( They aren’t of course !!)

  7. So our window consists of permanently signing a player who was already here . Loaning in a player who is then injured until further notice . Signing two teenagers and loaning one straight back and signing a midfielder from Derby and loaning him straight back ! We’ve signed five players and only one is presently in the squad and even he gets suspended from next week !! Cushty 😂

Wonder what sort of reception he will get from their fans. Especially if things start to go south. On the other hand could be in the same league next season

Agreed ! Imagine if Tommy told us to do one and signed for a Prem club but then got loaned back until the summer ! Not sure he or anyone else would be welcomed with open arms !

  9. Interesting developments at Leicester today . Maresca has threatened to quit because the fans are moaning at his possession based approach ! Even though they’re walking the league , the style of play isn’t popular with the locals . As much as the style we’re playing is entertaining, it’s a results business and we’ll need to up our game very soon if Manning wants to keep the fan base happy .

“LEICESTER CITY manager Enzo Maresca threatened he will walk away from the club if Foxes fans do not want his brand of football.
Maresca has led the Foxes to the top of the Championship – where they hold a ten-point lead over Ipswich Town.
But despite looking certs to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking, the Italian coach’s methodical, possession-based tactics have not always gone down well with the King Power Stadium supporters.
Following Tuesday night’s 3-1 win over Swansea, Maresca made his feelings known after hearing groans among fans as they tried to build on an early lead.
He said: “I came to this club to play with this idea.
“The moment there is some doubt about the idea, I will leave the day after, it’s so clear.
“You can feel the fans when they’re not happy, some people take things for granted”

  10. I’ve been on the fence with Max but BOTH goals last night were down to poor goalkeeping . For the first goal he dived/fell without actually stretching his arm to reach the ball ( which he could have done comfortably ) and the second he should have pushed round the post or held it comfortably. I’d say that’s probably 9/10 points directly attributed to Max this season so far but is that normal for most keepers by Feb ? Honestly don’t know .

Agreed, plain and obvious is the phrase that gets overlooked, if they stuck to these principles it would be fine.

100% . What grinds my gears most with Prem VAR is that every goal is scrutinised before the game restarts to see if it can be ruled out , killing the celebrations. How negative is that ?? VAR should never be used this way !

  12. Loving the quality of our football right now BUT it is a real gamble to play this way . By only playing one up top we have a lot more possession and can also defend further up the pitch but in the Championship you actually need a Premier league quality striker that can turn all of the possession into goals . As I said , im loving the quality of the football but I fear that it’s unrealistic to expect us to ever get our hands on someone up top with the ability to turn possession into points and for us to then keep hold of him ! Time will tell .

Can he replace Southgate ..... Please!

Not being funny but that would be a totally logical next step to take . He’s clearly run out of steam with Club management and needs a break from it . Letting Southgate oversee the Euros with Klopp taking over later this year seems a perfect fit !!!! I’m off to the bookies sharpish !!!

    Also @Baldyman

Bournemouth though..they're one I struggle with.

    Pre tax Loss or Profit

    2019-20..-£60m

    2020-21..£17m Profit

(For FFP you average and halve so it's-£21.5m).

    2021-22..-£55.5m.

Their Upper Loss limit to last season was £72m plus allowables, Covid and Promotion Bonuses, they surely don't have big Allowables given their Category of Academy was 3 until recently, the £100m rise we need to subtract the gap between that and Year 2 Parachutes and they haven't made any decent sales for a good 2 seasons by the look.

They also sacked 2 managers last season albeit dunno their terms of contract.

So basically ….. watch this space ?

Yes, ironically I wonder about their compliance to the present season in respect of the 3 year rule..mainly but not 100 pct due to their major loss in 2021-22.

2014 They failed and there were wider questions pertaining to a sponsorship arrangement with Trestellar.

One that confuses me is how Bournemouth the to their income net of TV cash and Fulham due to their seemingly regularly free spending ways/big losses seem to comply at all times. (I know they failed the old rules, fine and embargo respectively).

I can’t get my head around Bournemouth at all . They have league 1 attendances the same TV income as clubs like Everton . Don’t gain any income from alternative uses of their stadium and spend £30-50m every season on players without selling on any home grown talent to the “ big boys” . How the hell are they within FFP rules ???

  17. Honestly think Dale Vince has totally lost the plot !!! Deeney’s interview sucked and was a mirror image of JB’s a couple of months ago but what is Vince playing at over the past 3 seasons ? He’s appointing these idiots ! Including caretaker coaches and once a new manager is appointed he will be the 11th person to coach / manage those players since 2021 ……….. and he wonders what the problem is ????

  18. Can see Twine playing in a free 10 role directly behind Tommy . Hickman and Williams are nailed on starters and Tanner was SO much better with MCcrorie giving him protection . If Knight is fit to start , can see him taking the CDM role which is probably his natural position and James and Mehmeti dropping to the bench .

  19. Williams to us now is what Bryan Robson was to Man U back in the day . An absolute leader on the pitch who loves a tackle and has a touch of the devil about him . Been a long time coming after all his injuries but is outstanding now !

Anyone remember the midday Rovers game at AG that got postponed because of icy steps in the stands and outside, many years ago? The pitch was perfect as I remember.

And not a Rovers fan in sight, before or after. Like rats in drainpipes.

A very happy afternoon on the lash instead!

Remember that well . It was ice rain that was the issue . Cars were just sliding all over the shop and as I was parked o. A steep hill I couldn’t even move mine !!
