  1. Good old Gary Owers. always yelling when we get near the goal. I'm no different, but then I'm not the co-commentator!
  2. Why should the club have any say in who Sky picks? Regardless I think people got a bit too excited at the prospect. Nige is a professional - and if he wants another job in football which I think he does, he is hardly going to go around publicly slagging off his former employers. Wait until the auto biography after he retires for the inside scoop!
  3. we gave the ball away a lot in dangerous areas tonight - against a good side pressing high. Always going to happen when teams try and play out from the back without the resources to pull it off. We aren't the only ones who do it when we're not cut out to, as @Maltshoveller says. Definitely causes more problems for us than it creates for the opposition and I'm sure you could say that about a lot of clubs who try to play this way. It is spoiling football for me a little bit at the moment (I know how much of a dinosaur I sound like when I say this!) I guess we need to hope the next coaching fad that everyone copies isn't as dull to watch.
  4. Just because it's been said before, doesn't mean it isn't true. It's unlikely to get better soon - Boro and Southampton could easily go the same way. Especially So'ton with the form they're in. Expect another few threads like this until we start winning again - maybe even until we're in the top six as they promised.
  5. If this is indeed the case, then you have to say that Derby fans can have no complaints and the club have played a blinder. We on the other hand - why have we paid more to sign somebody in Jan as opposed to the summer, only to let him play for his old club for now and have him join us in the summer?
  6. All about opinions! Can't say I enjoyed it at all! Hiding behind the sofa after they equalised and then had that cross that flashed across the box! We worked hard, had a good game plan, forced them into a lot of errors...but I thought we were so sloppy with the ball. 5 yard passes not finding their man, poor quality into the box (we always have difficulty breaking teams down, but tonight it seemed that we didn't look after the ball as well) Still, a year or two ago you could argue we would have lost the game. Gutted to not win after taking the lead, but if you'd have offered me a point before or even on 60 mins with how we were playing I'd have taken it. Draw away at a decent side when the passes aren't sticking is a good point. Form is not good - and the next 3 are tough, so important to pick up a point. COYR
  7. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA NAAAAKKKKHHIIIII
  8. Easy to be up for the cup games isn't it. Not so easy away to Cov in front of an empty stadium on a Tuesday night. Got to have the right mentality
  9. This business with the corners is annoying me. If the ball wasn't out for their goal - despite the fact that the bit of the ball in contact with the floor is over the line, because the ball is round, it wasn't out - why is the same not true when we put the ball down for a corner? Good opportunity down the left but TGH made the wrong decision. Story of the night. Need a moment of quality or a mistake, of one to go in off someone's arse
  10. He was alright in the end if I recall, after a rocky start. According to the song anyway
  11. Finally, couple of good deliveries TGH. Get in!!!
  12. Wells is not as tall as TC, but is clever at using his body to hold the ball up or win a free kick. Pity we haven't really made any chances for him
  13. Why is Wells on corners? Euro 2012 flashbacks...
  14. Balls into the box very poor so far. Corners not beating first man, Mehmeti and TGH overhitting them. Still, as long as we don't get to emotional and show some good behaviours we'll be fine?
  15. Presumably the vast majority, if not all home tickets sold to ST holders and members? Imagine being a season ticket holder and selling your ticket for the first derby game in 12 years to a fan of your local rivals. The mind boggles.
  16. Not guilty! Not even after he came on!
  17. On Friday I dared to stand up to bellow some encouragement when we'd won a corner. Was rather rudely told to sit down by a very stern looking chap a few seats down (the ball was out of play - if I was blocking him for a moment, he wasn't missing much!) Atmosphere at home is very tame these days as most would prefer to sit in silence. Smaller crowds when I started going years ago, but much more noise and general sense of anticipation. It is a shame. Don't like to see it boil over though as you say. I'm sure the fa will react very strongly. Wasn't much to see on BBC website footage
  18. He's been a late bloomer. Nobody really saw this coming when he was on loan at Walsall etc. He may need to improve on final ball, add a few goals/assists. But I'd also say we haven't seen him playing often in a system that has given him as much freedom as he enjoyed tonight. He's improved so much already - who knows where his ceiling is really. Enjoy watching him play - gives his all, fully committed, pretty consistent these days. All action tonight! Won a few important headers in the middle of the park and looked dangerous going forward even if the goal didn't come. Possibly my MoM.
  19. Do you think that's where he fits back in? Sykes more of a wide player - Knight seemed quite narrow today although he did run on to a few through balls from McCrorie towards the corner. We've changed shape since he got injured, Twine signed and McCrorie returned. Not sure how Manning will fit them all in if/when they're all fit (though with our injury record I doubt it'd be a problem for long!)
  20. Biggest compliment to is that Nuno made 2 subs at half time including bringing on Gibbs White. They came out a little more lively in the second half, but we still held our own. Don't know if it's quite the best we've played in years - difficult to judge. Pearson and other previous managers haven't sent us out to control a game like Manning likes to. Probably the best opposition on paper that we have looked comfortable on the ball against? (I admit, this is not as catchy as the thread title!) Either way - onwards an upwards. Yes no shots on target tonight, but a few good openings and some blocked shots against a side a level above. We are without our most effective player this season (Sykes) and also without Twine - who Manning obviously rates having worked with him before, and presumably fits well into Manning's idea of how we want to play. Under Holden we could barely win a corner, that's not that long ago! SO broadly in agreement with the optimism of the original post!
  21. I think Tanner was unfairly scapegoated on here for lacking a bit of imagination going forward. I suspect he was following instructions! But we look much better with McCrorie in the team - McCrorie Tanner Vyner Dickie Pring is better than the back four stated above. Pring is a bit of a beast when he bombs forwards! Got a Joe Bryan leap on him, and linked up well with Mehmeti. Occasionally he would stay wide, other times drift inside and leave acres of room for Pring to run into. Encouraging signs.
  22. I noticed this - maybe I couldn't hear the whistle, but almost felt like he was watching in slow motion! Couple of poor ones - the mcrorie one in the first half looked bizarre from where I was. But other than that he did OK- fairly straightforward
  23. Played out of our skins first 15 mins. Atmosphere like a red and white night of old. Settled down a bit - like a game of chess now. Such is modern football. Been much the better side, I'm sure they'll be more lively after the break. coyr
