He would be my choice , but would our finances allow us to pay any compensation?

Yes, schumacher has done a hell of a job, we ought to have the funds to pay compensation, but he’s obviously only got about 12 games of experience in the championship?

Firstly I don’t believe they’ve sacked Nige without a manager lined up to be put in place immediately.  This feels different to the last two sackings.

Therefore this has been in plan for a while.  Sound out options, narrow down, line them up and wait to sack with some kind of “pre-contract” done to make sure nobody else poaches before you can sack the current incumbent.

Get Ipswich and Cardiff out of the way, then act.

I fully expect a new manager in situ before Saturday.

If it isn’t announced until later this week, it’s purely because they are trying to make it look like a really quick search this week.

    Announce…..X.

Definitely agree,, this has been brewing for weeks, im sure the appointment is lined up, i cant believe it wont be another balls up though!

Dave, on one of the other threads you mentioned a few things about Tinnion, his promotion and his yearning to have more academy players, etc. I have nothing but a cynical suspicion and no grounds to back it up, however what if his obsession with getting more from the academy led to him and his decision not to spend the Scott money and not SL in the first place? As Technical Director surely he would be in a strong place of influence. As said I have no axe to grind and am not mischief making, just providing another angle to consider.

I cant think that tinnion holds that sort of power at the club,, he’s presumably making a pretty nice living at the club, and i have no doubt as to his affection for it… whether he has the experience to do that job in the championship is another discussion though.

Good L1 and L2 manager. Failed at Championship football now with two clubs.

I don't dislike the guy from what I've read about him - a real character - but the leap between those divisions for managers is as big as what is expected from players. Some aren't suited.

Seems a bit harsh,,, he got wycombe up, and they gave everything they had, but were unable to compete,, and qpr have been a mess for a while now.

In solidarity with my fellow fans, I find myself echoing a sentiment that resonates deeply within our community. We owe an immeasurable debt of gratitude to Steve and Jon for the transformation they’ve brought to our beloved club, catapulting our infrastructure into the modern era. Steve, in his tenure, has displayed undeniable commitment, albeit with a few missteps that we can’t ignore. Yet, there’s a perceptible shift in their involvement – a disinterest that’s mirrored by their recent reluctance to invest in the team.

What profoundly troubles me is the extent to which the ambitions of our club’s devoted 23,000 attendees, and the many thousands more around the globe, hinge on the owners’ engagement. When they show signs of apathy, it inevitably ripples through the entire fan base.

Picture, if you will, a scenario where your boss seems disengaged from the company’s goals. The message this conveys is one of indifference, a sentiment we cannot afford. What’s even more disconcerting is the apparent breakdown in communication. Over the past two months, Nigel Pearson and Kalas have publicly highlighted the lack of dialogue within the club. To reiterate – two key figures within our club are left in the dark, and our manager has had to take the extraordinary step of addressing this publicly. It’s a situation that’s difficult to fathom.

In light of these developments, it seems prudent to consider the idea of transitioning the ownership of our club. Perhaps it’s time to seek new custodians who possess the enthusiasm and energy needed to rekindle our club’s ambitions and drive it to new heights. The future of Bristol City deserves a fresh and invigorating perspective, one that matches the dedication of the fans who hold it dear.

Agree with this, but its easy to see why SL will have had enough after being left with the bill over covid, plus the losses on so many of the players, including the chelsea 3 plus fam. Seeing such poor results while spending out on some of those salaries with no income will have been galling,, while still completing the hpc plus that new arena. They have been his decisions but he must feel let down at what has been delivered for all that money too.

Was always uncomfortable with that. It just shows such ego.

Im pretty sure jon introduced it to steve before the first time it was used,,, though it was probably a formality, and to be fair no one has really had a problem with it until now, and given the amount spent, i dont really have a problem with it. At this point though not spending some of the scott money is ridiculous, to sell your 2 best players  and finish 14th,,, what do we really expect nige to achieve??

weve all been saying that the beneficiary will be niges replacement, which it might be if we could pick someone competent to replace him… in the meantime though,, at best, we are looking at win 1 draw 1 lose 1, at least until some of the injured guys are back,

Is it still the general feeling that NP is good for us? I can't understand it.

For me, tonight shows we are a mid table side at best. 2nd best. Ipswich were promoted last season FFS!

We've made such little progress during his tenure. We need a change that can actually produce an result in the league table.

You will probably get a big response to that message, but at this point i think we are wholly incapable of doing anything in the championship other than treading water, at best, and. Guardiola couldn’t get much more out of the players if he had a go at it.

Podcast coming soon… it will take a while to edit this - it is currently well over 2 hours… 3 Robins Reviews this week too… big thanks to all of those who recognise the efforts and time commitment that goes into producing these podcasts especially the Robins Reunited’s… it is a labour of love and like many that have reached out to say so it also helps with our mental fitness to talk through games and celebrate former players contributions…

As a teenager i was invited to attend a physio course with buster back in the day, and martin scott would come in on his evenings off and observe,,, buster would point out muscle groups on scotts legs,, they were huge! He was a top player. I was obviously star struck being around him as a lad.

i was also caught out in a john bailey wind up too,,, he was sat with his leg in a bucket of water with an electric pulse running through it to aid muscle recovery,,, buster invited us to put our hand in the bucket to see if we could feel the pulse, and cause i was closest i went first…. Old john is sat there looking at me like a lion eyeing up a gazelle,,, soon as my finger tips touch the water he shouts “bang” in my ear, i jump a mile, everyone has a good laugh!

When you consider how destabilised we were 2-3 years ago and having navigated through FFP problems to bringing in big fees for players and having a relatively young side that is showing it can compete at this level, even when it is injury ravaged like Saturday. I really can’t see the benefit of destabilising it all again. Someone tell me the benefit.

I think we all agree Nige doesn’t have a free pass for life but surely give him one more contract to prove or otherwise whether he can take us further forward? If @Kid in the Riotis correct and it’s now a case of how and when we get rid I think the circus upstairs has got it all wrong. Either that or their next appointment needs to be a barnstormer……..if this is the decision they better bloody we’ll get it right is how I judge it anyway.

What many fans won’t have is another three years of a manager struggling like **** to re-stabilise the club when it’s already been stabilised. I could of course be wrong but it appears the current situation is personal on the part of the people in charge and not objective.

The only benefit is that we do pull out that barn stormer replacement and steve offers up the scott cash to build the squad up… but theres no way i would trust us to get it right, or for that cash to be available… i agree that it’s personal though, nige doesnt care about making that public and the lansdowns wont like him doing that!

….and at least a couple are what I’d call “cheque book managers” so would not be able to work for Austerity City.

We just got 20 odd million in, and a much reduced wage bill,,, i doubt many would be surprised if some money was made available in January if a new manager was brought in!

I feel very uncomfortable reading comments about Nigels health. Not yours but others that have said Nigels health should be a consideration about whether he continues in his role and if he gets a new contract.

His health should not be a consideration in either, it would be illegal for it to be a consideration. Proving that it is a consideration tho is a different matter.

Nige could quite rightly go off sick for as long as he needs to and there is nothing the club could legally do.

I think he should be applauded for continuing to work despite the discomfort he is in.

For a club that often celebrates the good they do, like donating food, their attitude towards Nigels health is disgusting and just makes all the other stuff they do look like a PR stunt.

We have some idea that his job security is of some concern to nige, but he nor anyone else has said the attitude toward his health is an issue.

coming from a background of fixed term contracts where if something happens with my health that affects my ability to work could result in me being fired, it clearly would be reasonable to not commit to a contract extension until this is all sorted out… with the best will in the world, giving someone 3 years and the next day they go off sick with a known issue, in any line of work, would be bad management. Not that im saying that niges health situation isnt serious and that he is the sort of character that would take advantage of it.

His signings have generally been good, when weighted for resources due to firstly necessity, and then an inexplicable swing in policy this season.

    The Clear Successes

Tanner, Improved since he joined and still under 25 which can be key for outfield players.

Atkinson- Excellent when fit, he is 25 or just under I think. Still can develop age wise, centre backs may also have extra growth compared to e.g. full backs. I like how he can carry it into CM, a bona fide left sided centre back and can score goals- a double v Preston in the rain a good example.

Naismith- Can play at CB, in a back 3 and midfield. Technically strong, perhaps a central 3 in midfield or between defence and midfield is his best position as it accentuates the positives and masks one or two weaknesses.

James- Good, excellent. Can be an adhesive glue in midfield, name checked by Pep.

King- Player, player coach. Free, relatively low wage and has covered in a host of positions- always a depth player barring serious injuries and a good experienced pro to have, much like James and Wells.

Knight- Duracell bunny, 22. Will grow as age on his side, needs to add some goals perhaps but his early years at Derby showed good signs in this respect.

Gardner-Hickman- Looks promising, versatile too even if not a true RB probably and time very much on his side.

Sykes- I would say he needs to add some goals, a big flurry in January and scored at QPR too in May. Can he get between 5 and 10 the League? Wingback, pushed high on the right.

Cornick- Depth player. Unfair flak, no he isn't spectacular but works very hard, thought for phases of the Middlesbrough game in February as well as the goal and assist be showed some good positioning for defensive shape out of possession 1st half especially. Central or wide? Bit like Weimann, that is good and bad!

Exciting but a bit to prove? Or did a job for a time.

Klose- Thought he did fine for a time, but ran out of legs and steam. Still a free, probably relatively low cost. Was he a decent pro?

Roberts- Free, young, versatile, talented. 21..okay he had a tough day today but time is very much on his side and let's be fair we are horribly patched up.

Mehmeti- I'll be honest I expected to see a bit more. Has he stalled a bit, is just that Bell is strong so Mehmeti stays out. Otoh he is 22 so has gone on his side very much so

    Possible fails

Bajic- He did not show much vs Lincoln. Otoh nobody covered themselves in glory that evening. Relatively low cost sure, age 21 turning 22 this December. Keepers can peak and plateau years later, question is how long should we leave it and indeed he want to leave it for his own career.

Simpson- Cheap, didn't really do much though but not especially bothered.

I also liked his re-signing of Baker and Weimann plus Wells on longer but much cheaper terms- real shame how it ended with Baker but the principle was sound.

Obviously I respect your views, but id say some of these ratings are on the generous side! I don’t mind tanner but hes lacking going forwards and weve spent a load on trying to replace him. Naismith too came in as one of our top earners and while theres been some moments of quality, the general consensus is that his best position isnt the one he was brought in for? Knight looks really good, but to call cornick a clear success is very generous!

the quality of our own youth players has made the difference for us, certainly bell vyner pring and conway are probably our most valuable, not that we would ever sell them….
