To be fair if he doesn’t get the required interest from European teams for his move abroad it seems we would be his no 1 choice. Obviously still a small chance but there’s a little bit of hope. (Or at least I’m trying to convince myself there is)

Would love to see him stay another year, think we will be defensively a lot better this coming season which would allow him to play higher up the pitch and get the goal contributions to prove people wrong but I don’t see it happening now. Too much hype for him not to leave and a loan back option won’t happen with the amount of teams needing replacement midfielders.

Really hate the tunnel vision on goal scoring stats for a player playing in a relatively defensive pivoting midfielder position. In a team who either play on the counter, or rely on the pace of our wingers in behind the majority of the time. Alex Scott is quite easily the best ball carrier in our squad at 19. Both footed. Press resistant. Strong tackler. When he eventually finds himself in the attacking third he can take on a man and pass through the defence well. Also on a side note, the £25m price tag isn’t just for the player a club is receiving now, especially if it were spurs/Newcastle/Brighton coming in for him, it’s also for the player they have in 2/3 years time. Who with the right coaching will have realistic chances of being in the England set up and being a very good midfielder in the prem or another top league. If you watch his highlights against Man City you can clearly see the reasons teams are so interested. He looked comfortable against the best team in England. He played a hell of a lot better then kalvin Phillips who cost Man City £42 million at 26 yrs old.

It was a £35million release clause mate they can’t not accept. On the other hand I don’t believe we have one in scotts contract. He’s also 5 years younger, English and versatile as proven with the 21/22 season. Might not get 35 but will definitely get at least 25.

Such a shame imo, can just see him slipping into low-mid table french league obscurity. Would have loved it to work out for him here.

Pretty sure that’s Brightons scouting model. They just simulate everything till 2030 and see which players are best.

Can’t tell if we are signing a lb or a cb here tbh. Obviously it’s good to have versatile players no doubt, but with most signings it’s usually quite clear what their preferred position is. With roberts it’s hard to tell. If it’s a cb who can cover lb however, I think it confirms Kalas’ departure which is sad, not 100% obviously, always thought he gave 100% and hopefully he goes on to do well. I don’t know about any of you but I absolutely love our transfer policy these days. Getting deals done quickly, not having to replace loans every summer and having attractiveness for new players over other midtabke championship clubs is very positive. Hopefully all of these smart on paper signings will be what we need to get that extra 15 points for a playoff position. ?

Exactly. Against teams who play quick football on the counter he may not start/play but against teams who play with 2 big strikers he will be instrumental. It’s covering all bases and having useful attributes available in each position. Much like having mehmeti and Bryan on the left hand side, two very different player but both very useful. Not trying to get ahead of myself, but IMO that is what teams that finish in the playoffs have.

Don’t necessarily mind giving mehmeti time in the 10. With a pre season behind him I think he could become magic for us. But do agree we need a new attacking midfielder if Scott goes. Someone with that “maverick” type that Pearson goes on about. Very hard to replace Scott obviously but hopefully someone with that ability to scare defenders. We are relatively short of that with semenyo gone and if Scott leaves.

Unless this ‘Special Signing’ is Zlatan Ibrahimovic coming out of his short retirement how do they believe it will drive thousands of season ticket sales??? For a club in an embargo that only avoided relegation because of another clubs point deduction. Cant see why Joe Bryan would go there at all. I’m more nervous about a Southampton or something similar going in for him.

Agree with his fitness levels, but to be fair he has kicked on very well at Brighton, been one of their starting cbs for 2 years now and with Lewis dunk getting an England call up I would’ve thought he would’ve been handed one himself at least in a nations league campaign or a group of friendly games. Not saying Dickie will reach Websters level or price value if we were to sell him on but that kind of situation. Central defender that is undervalued because of certain factors but clearly has the ability. Shrewd business if it works.
