I really think the money thing needs to be taken out of the argument. Footballers - regardless of the money they earn - are as entitled as anyone else to protection from the virus and to not go to work if they feel that they or their families are at risk.  Because some of them are obscenely rich doesn’t mean they have any more obligation to work if they feel it’s not safe than anyone else.

It is made easier for them due to the money they earn, a bloke who is working on minimum wage and has to provide for a wife and two kids wouldn’t have that chance at all.

Despite what it may seem I’m not one for conspiracy theories, i don’t really care if it started in a lab or someone ate undercooked bat and then coughed in someone’s face, but as someone who had all those symptoms at Christmas and ended up in hospital a month later and have since tested negative for coronavirus albeit a couple of months after, lots of what the government are saying doesn’t make sense and it seems like they stubbornly believe one narrative and one narrative only

I hope you are fully recovered now if it was covid or not, hopefully an antibody test does appear and people do become immune that way longer lasting.

90% of those who have passed away are over 80 and a higher percentage than that had an underlying condition.

It is total muppetry that the world has to stop for everyone.

As long as your ok that’s fine, don’t worry about others.

What a lovely world we live in.

Oxford University are now estimating that there’s 140,000 people in the uk infected with coronavirus which is 0.24% of the population, it could be that lockdown has brought that number down dramatically although that isn’t really reflected in the governments own data or it’s like how i said at the start that it started in November/December and that millions have already had it

It would be tragic if it’s the latter people would’ve needlessly lost their livelihoods while cases of mental health issues and domestic violence have rocketed

Obviously finding those 140,000 is like looking for a needle in a haystack but it does beg the question whether a vaccine is necessary

If that is the case with your theory on November/December why has there only been a surge of deaths across Europe the last couple of months?

Maybe we shouldn't play until measles cases are down to 0....or not play if there is a bad flu season this winter. Previous record for flu is around 28k deaths in one season. Where do you draw the line on public health priorities. There is a vaccination for both these diseases but that doesn't eliminate any risk.

It’s clear that covid risks a lot more than flu does, also like you said there are vaccines for those.

Measles for example is normally 0 or 1 deaths per a year in the uk.

Flu kills around 10k a year in the uk, we have hit triple that With covid in a few months with absolutely no clear sign when or how it will end.

If football starts again without a vaccine and fans attending there will be quite a lot of people who simply won’t go. Someone with it sitting in a stand could infect a load of people.

I don’t think the nation will hear what they want to hear from Boris later, unfortunately.

    This just isn’t going away.

It shows how football views itself and how money driven it is. Football should had been cancelled ages ago.

I hope Boris reenforces the absolute shit position we are in instead of people thinking we are going back to normal.

    Exactly how I feel.

I watched a short report on how the pandemic had hit Italy from start till now and I  dont mind saying I was struggling not to shed a tear.

Seriously how the **** is football remotely important right now???

Purely for money, I’ve said it from the start it’s not to get the lads back in employment is it.

No one has come out and said yet “yes we really need to get the players back in action so they can start working again”

  7. Looking at the BBC website, a good article on how we were too slow as a country and will be paying the price now for a long time.

Even with a comprehensive contact tracing programme in place, Prof Sridhar said physical distancing would be with us for a long time.

She said: "I think we're going to have to alter our behaviour in terms of having mass gatherings, concerts for the next year, year and a half until we know more about this”

People need to get it out their heads that we will be watching football for the next year or so.

Interesting listen if you can get hold of it. Basically says there is little chance of the season starting before Jan, the FA etc can’t justify 100k tests when it’s needed for people who are actually important like the NHS, and the plan is to do 3 up from each division, No one goes down then the next season have more relegations.

Compliance may have dipped in the last week or two.

Nonetheless, a couple of weeks ago, I recall compliance exceeded that expected by the modelling and by a decent amount too.

Think a lot of people don't like or trust various institutions. Could it be playing a part?

I personally think it’s a complete lack of respect for the government , police etc, crossed with a Chronic under funding of the police/NHS.

If you took the Spanish police and army, stuck them over here and let people carry on buying hot tubs they would soon be screaming human rights when they are getting hit With a baton.

The worst in this country is a telling off and a £30 fine

Can’t entirely agree with you on that one.  I think resuming sport is massively important in terms of morale.  At the start of the Second World War they closed theatres and cinemas, but realised that the negative effect on morale was so bad that they were quickly reopened.  The media might like to promote the idea that many people are having a lovely time doing daft things in their garden and applauding the NHS,  but I think what people really need are things that provide entertainment in their lives, none more so than sport.  Otherwise I can easily see the lockdown being broken, simply out of frustration and boredom.

The lockdown is already being broken as the British public are pathetic, it hasn’t even been a proper lockdown.

Take Spain For example, kids are finally allowed out the house for the first time for 6 weeks for a massive hour a day.

I must admit, I haven’t missed football as much as I thought I would - this dreadful situation has seen a lot of priorities being reassessed I think. Who knows what it will be like if and when we get back to some sort of normality.

You’ve said on here before that China was able to open its factories etc relatively quickly and you seem to be criticising our government for not following suit - what would you have done differently? Do you think all our businesses should be back to pre-pandemic operating schedules right now?

An actual lockdown for a start,

prepping PPE when it was clear it would spread,

not allowing mass events like Cheltenham

I mean that’s just 3 out of many, shops like Greggs McDonald’s all the diy chains are starting to reopen, we arnt on a lockdown at all.

  12. I see football in France has been suspended even if it would be behind closed doors, yet for some reason people in this country are desperate to watch it and the clubs are money driven instead of trying to save people’s lives.

Even FIFA’s chief doctor is advising against it

Fifa's chief doctor has warned against restarting the interrupted 2019-20 campaign and suggested governing bodies prepare for action next season instead.

"There is a risk and it is not a risk that has small consequences," continued D'Hooghe.

"It can have consequences of life and death and that is why I am so careful and I ask everyone to be very careful before deciding to play again.

"I speak as a medical doctor, I don't have to speak as an organiser of matches, but for the moment from my medical standpoint I would be very sceptical."

It seems increasingly likely that many clubs will not be able to survive the current crisis and - sadly for me-  Rovers would appear to be one of those at serious risk.

What will become of this thread if we do go?  You need to start thinking of your exit strategy, would it become the 'Cardiff dustbin thread' or will you wait to see if a 'phoenix' Rovers starts up and start hating them instead?

Personally. I'm beginning to see the upside of this scenario. I can continue disliking City and laughing to myself when they fail without having Rovers ******* it all up for me by, well just by being Rovers really,

One rare positive of all this pandemic would be rovers going bust,
