Middlesborough at home match thread
JP Hampton replied to Jerseybean's topic in The Havanatopia Match Day Archive
Just shows you never know where a game will go. First half an hour it so we were jokingly judging each other awake. The difference in the last 20 mins couldn’t be more different. Think TGH gets my MOTM just, over Dickie but not much in it, but that brilliant goal. Not sure he’s getting the best out of Bell yet, didn’t see any of his characteristics runs down the outside. And for me Tommy needs to be in a two up front. -
Yep. Really finding his feet. Beautiful goal too. Both he and Dickie excellent today.
-
So what evidence do you base that on? If you’d been at the game you’d have certainly heard and seen fans who were as behind our team as ever they were. As to the interview. He’s not here to do a song and a dance. He responded to the questions asked what more could he do?
-
Yes much improved from their last encounter. This is more like it from England.

It’s strange. Whether we’re playing badly or well, my OH and I have never left early. Somehow it doesn’t feel right. We’re there to support the team, so that’s exactly what we do. Even if it’s obvious we’re not getting anything from the game, the boys have usually put their all in to trying to win, so it’s showing that it’s appreciated I actually noticed during the only Curtis Fleming game significantly more people leaving before the end. Not seen that happen before, so I wondered if that was some sort of protest Having said that there is Something also, about being in a football stadium that I love, no matter what the football is like, with everyone having a common friend and foe!

Will there be anyone left

I thought we might have been 5th, but didn’t want to be accused of “making things up” -

Well I’d be amazed if anyone other than you would make that interpretation !! I think we all knew what was meant and is probably why “top six” was adopted genuinely (not made up) as an interpretation. Considering we were 8th in the table at one point, they had to mean higher than that for starters. -

So out of interest then, how would you interpret “top end”? -

Because words matter and a Manager and his team lost their jobs because of it. There has to be accountability somewhere. He said said top 6 and by inference NP isn’t going to get us there, so it’s reasonable for fans (who spend money and give support to the team) to hold him to what he’s said, as an excuse for the sacking, otherwise it was all for nothing. -
Ok, but I don’t see where you think anyone ridiculed you? If you think that then probably best to discuss it with the person responsible.
-
Yeah think that was more to do with your other responses and tone in that conversation, with that particular poster as far as I can see can’t see anyone said you were wrong? Anyway that’s my observation.
-
Oh not really similar to what I was saying then

I’ve noticed this a lot generally, even outside of football. While people are speaking they look down or just to the side of your head, if they pause they’ll give eye contact momentarily and once they come to the end of their sentence, their head comes front forwards and full eye contact again.
-
Listening to the podcast now. Can’t believe you spoke about the supposed “resting on an international break” and sounded as though you’d bought in to JLs comments and it being unheard of. Trust me no professional athlete would have 9 days off and do nothing. Each player would have had a programme to follow they are all hooked up so that their stats can be checked. And there’s no way any professional athlete would come back after training down to immediately start intense training. It’s standard practice when following high intensity training to have a period of “rest”. It’s the time the body needs to repair, muscles repair and build. It’s called training down. I don’t remember anyone questioning the teams fitness. Their fitness has always impressed. If there were Problems it was more likely to be due to being overplayed especially when there were a significant number of injuries.

Think you’ve hit the “Ian” nail on the head there! Although he does seem to change his tune at times. He didn’t rate Pearson when we were playing poorly last season, asking how many games should we give him before we sack him, then was quieter when we had the good spell following Christmas, was largely quite about him from then on but now he’s gone, Ian’s back to lambasting NP again. He has great advice about what players we needed, but never took into account any of the financial constraints NP was under at the time Despite that me and my OH always listen to yours and 3 peeps podcast.
-
I know he was brought on but was very surprised TGH didn’t start yesterday. Think he’s been more than warranting a start, doing that a bit strange. Think he’s been a very good signing for us and I’m sure there’s still more to come

I have a feeling, read it somewhere, there was a suggestion for Knight to be in addition to Scott not to replace him.
-
Think that was the least up for it that I’ve seen them play.
-
And when did this attitude change begin in your opinion? And what is it about his play that suggests “attitude”?
-
And you can see all that just from watching a game
