  1. In terms of performance , the opponents a pp club , on their run , the way LM set us up and the individual and collective performances , and the result to round it off ,that’s about as good as it’s come for a few years probably

Well done LM and every player who executed the game plan so well - that’s the standard we should be aspiring to now 💪🏻💪🏻

Apparently rovers lost all thier cups when Twerton burnt down,

Mind you , as recently as Saturday they were still knocking out the pasties , they managed to salvage from the embers

What a cracking night that was !

  4. Delighted for him - something very likeable about him

Quiet , unassuming , zero ego , and gets his head down and gets on with it - has settled and improved bit by bit

Good on him and an excellent piece of recruitment

I think we were just trying to defend a lead, which isn't exactly an unusual or controversial tactic.

Not a general approach I favour KITR , and certainly if at all if and when you are forced to , not at half time , if what you’re doing is working keep doing it

Especially for a squad that has played a lot of football, and is playing away from home at a decent team

But - maybe an argument in this case due to above .

To defend a lead you need either more defenders on the pitch, more players in defensive positions, or both.

I assume that's what Manning had in mind, and ultimately it worked.

Sorry Dave, but your post comes across as joyless.

We've just won at a top 10 side away from home and one with a bigger budget than us.

We could, probably should, have been 3 or 4 up at half time.

We aren't in a place where we're capable of playing at an intensity like we did in the first half in the second as well, particularly given the amount of minutes in players legs.

That's presumably part of the reason the change was made.

I agree we ceded some control of the game, at the same time I thought we defended very well - and we have that in our locker.

I don't recall many Boro clear-cut chances,  they had their first goal correctly ruled out and then scored a fluke.

If you're angry about that then you must've missed a lot of very bad City performances over the years. Either that, or experienced a lot of anger!

I think that’s the most sensible explanation I have seen suggested KITR

Its what I thought Manning may say

I guess the question is ( In the overall in game management debate ) is whether that change aided us or hampered us in second half.

If you are correct in why the change , the circumstances of the Cup game etc may mean it’s a difficult one to judge in the overall debate

    They never ask him.

Having listened to his interview I am no clearer as to why Cornick got taken off or why we changed shape.

It was all a bit woolly and as you say a poor interview

I didn’t see the game , so difficult to comment , and difficult not having seen , other than others descriptions , exactly what transpired

But all I’d say - the overall subject of in game management / tactically is actually an important one (For any Head Coach / Manager - not just LM)

One of several key skill areas which will dictate how successful you are

Fwiw  And overall what I’ve seen , In game adaptability and tactical tweaks is a bit of a concern for me

  8. I didn’t see the game so am following the subject of the change in formation and the second half with interest

But , in his interview he’s just given in RB he didn’t explain it , said how effective we were and how well we excecuted the plan in the first half, suggested Cornick was knackered hence the sub , didn’t explain why he went to a 5 but ‘you are always going to come under pressure’ , and thought it worked well in the second half

So I’m still none the wiser why he actually changed

Think we've discovered in this thread those that gave Bell shit for his penalty miss.

Bell is a life long Bristol City fan. You will struggle to ever find a player of ours who it means more to than him. He's exactly the sort of player I want in our team!

He missed a penalty against Premier league Forest just a few days ago which saw his boyhood club get knocked out of the FA Cup and miss out on a massive game at Ashton Gate. We all saw what it meant to him after the game when he was crying.

Of course the poor lad is going to be a bit short on confidence. Let's get behind him ffs not give him shit for missing a chance when we're already 2 nil up.

    Well said

    Sam Bell or

<Insert Name Here> <Choose any of the various expensive , overpaid , disinterested , waste of money signings , with no interest in Bristol City , since we’ve been back in Championship)

Didn’t we lose a shoot out to decide the venue for the 2nd FA cup replay against Cambridge?

We lost, and then got stuffed 5-1 in the replay

Or did I imagine that? (Not the result sadly)

    Coin toss IIRC

Shootout at Walsall to decide who hosted the Play Off , play off final

It is certainly possible, the only concern is when we had a number of pinned posts in the past people mentioned that they often missed them

    Sure

Was just thinking it's a subject thread never out of date as it’s about the future and a little about now

without creating another sub forum where the informative posts may still get lost I was thinking more a pinned thread where , for example last nights report or a Pete Hinton or Tom Sutton type overview could be reposted / quoted or whichever on the pinned thread , either by the op or someone else seeing value in it ,for a bit of a evolving overview archive / of the up and coming age groups

And it would be interesting to look back at over the seasons to come !

Just an idea and dependent on others and of course mostly mod views

  13. Excellent , thankyou

Always good to hear people’s thoughts and overview of the up and coming 👍🏻 And Well done the lads - good win and no mean achievement to get to ? 1/4 finals ?

    Mods ( @phantom ?)

would it be possible to consider either a ‘Age groups / Academy’ pinned thread where some of these excellent posts and overviews like @petehintonand @TomSutton and others have compiled recently about the up and coming age groups, could be added  - Always find them interesting and help fill a knowledge or understanding gap of mine , and probably many others)

Sometimes you want to go back and reread them when a name comes up or appears in first team squad and it’s not easy to relocate them (And that the effort that’s gone into them , the information , eventually gets lost and wasted as such)

Any post in any thread that gives good information , overviews , about any of the age groups could be quoted to link them at least  on the pinned thread and it would be an interesting read and source of anyone interested and an interesting read back as their careers evolve ?
