Today was an awful game a total lack of ideas going forward.
However it is not helped when over the last two games we seem to have become a dirty side referees have given 29 free kicks for fouls against us compared to 10 for us ! I find this unbelievable to be honest.
A vital win today not sure how much longer Manning has got but on today’s performance not long

Think the ref was making up the rules as he went along, joke most of the free kicks he was giving. Not sure who's performance was worse ours or the refs (ref shaded it as he was sh1t all game, but we improved)

I wonder how many people know that Jon Lansdown has Economics and Management degree from Southampton University? It's one of the better traditional UK universities, so he would have needed decent A Levels to get in, regardless of his family's wealth.

Whether that makes him qualified to be Chairman of Bristol City is an entirely different thing but he's neither stupid nor thick.

I think that's the irony, I guessing most who think they are being funny or clever trying to make out JL is thick and stupid with the crayonboy or other comments have nowhere near the education Jon has. Not saying he is qualified or should be chairmen, but just makes those making the comments look stupid

Why do you find it necessary to be so unnecessarily rude?

I think those who come out with these type of comments think they are being clever and funny, and crave the adulation of everyone liking the comments, when in reality most sensible fans just think they are immature idiots

We need to learn the dark arts. Played well this evening but are far too honest. The free kick given against Vyner is 50/50 both players pulling each other yet Ref decides Zak is in the wrong! El Hamadi is not only holding but backing in then throws himself to floor so should have been our free kick if anything.
It appears that the team that dives throws themselves to the floor at the slightest contact gets the referees vote !
Lots of positives from tonight’s game however think 🤔 we are now in a relegation fight

Ref was poor all night playing to the ipswich fans, sure he will be invited to have a bottle or red with Ashton to celebrate

  5. Shame about the result from a very good performance.

    Burns made all the difference

Very soft free kick for their 2nd

Looked like cam got the ball for the pen, in the build up one of our players was dragged back and stopped getting to the ball, but ref ignored.

Those trying to big up ipswich saying they could have had more, but fail to mention nakki miss or Mehmeti great effort.

Those using that ipswich made changes and we did not react, seem to have forgot Conway and Skyes combined for our 2nd, but also look at the players ipswich were able to get in January. Maybe Roberts on would have been good, but maybe not

Sense of honesty. As people have rightfully said, LM saw this job as a bigger and better step for his career. I am sure he came to us with every good intention. What I think he didn't factor in at any stage was BT involvement. I think he is pulling all the strings at the moment, he can baffle JL with his football knowledge, he can hoodwink academy players with his involvement generally and he can dictate to LM on a daily basis as he can probably opt when to pull the plug. I don't think it's rocket science either that certain players have had enough, they perform in the big games in the hope of a move and could really care about the lower matches as they don't see their futures at lower clubs. Tonight will be a good example I feel. I was of the opinion that NP time was probably up and I felt a young manager with good coaches supporting him might be the answer, what i didn't expect was BT becoming the background manager in what really now is his 2nd spell in charge.

answer. Get rid  of BT now, give LM the chance to show us if he is capable without others interference. See  if he can manage and coach the players in a way that they support him , their team mates and the fans.

And you have inside knowledge to know this is correct?

  7. This bit for me, exactly what we were saying the other day, there is no pace on the ball, no quick passing, no movement into space in front of them, which was something we had started to do in the early days of LM, but we seemed to have regressed

"In the early part of Liam’s reign, I felt that we were keeping possession with a real purpose but now it feels like we are continually playing the ball around at the back, playing it sideways and backwards because we are not sure what to do or because they don’t want to make a mistake.

Everything is a little too slow, too safe and too deliberate, our midfield is too pedestrian and there is not enough movement in the final third. We run in straight lines and make it too easy to defend against us"

Not fully sure I agree. Yeah to some extent but pre game the atmosphere was building a bit..when Vindaloo came fans were signing along to the England bit and then they put that crap music which is more suited to a night club as Cardiff get Battered Everywhere they go was starting to gain a bit of voice.

A rare good call, followed by a reversion to type. Depends where you are in the ground too..bit of the Dolman hear the Safe Standing area can see sound come across alright.

In the Lansdown stand, south stand end, but thought the atmosphere was very flat and nothing like a normal derby. Get the point some have made about dull performances and not much to cheer about, but like I said is it for the players to get the fans going or can the fans help to get the players going?

But it was close on the pitch!

FWIW TC could well be making his run off of the cross, not the header, so he was onside from initial cross, you can see he’s on the move.

When I looked at it earlier, Tommy is not in the picture to see if he is onside from the initial cross, which is a fair point he may have been originally. In general it gets a bit frustrating the number of times both Tommy & Nakki are offside when they can see across the whole pitch and dont even get me started about the slow amble to get back on side after going to the keeper, which just stops the ball being played forward to him.

Tight, but just off, for those querying.

would be interesting to see the line drawn down from the defenders flailing right arm.

I said on another thread that Tommy was poor to be offside when he has an easy clear view down the line, its not as though it was a fast move, purely a cross and headed shot. Small margins but huge difference to the end result. I also do not think its even close when you judge from the box

  11. I was not happy yesterday at our game, Cardiff players sits himself down, we are in an attacking position having just turned the ball over and blows up to stop the game, but why? was not a head injury, was not a serious injury or medical event, he even then held up the game until Cardiff brought the sub on, so we lost any momentum and Cardiff had 11 players on the pitch to get back behind the ball, joke of a ref.

PS Liverpool decision was terrible and cost Forest the game

  12. I guess it depends on you motivation for buying a ticket, is it something you expect something back from, winning football, promotion to the prem, thrilling football.

Whereas the reality of watching a mid table championship team is a mix of success and disappointment, but you are following the team you support thru the ups and downs as well as the whole match day experience. Whilst I hate losing to Cardiff as much as the gas, I still had a good day watching a game and the frustration that came with it, a few beers with mates and chatting with a bit of banter with all the other ST holders I have got to know around us. Unfortunately no guarantees at this level of what you will get for your money.

    Danny Wilson

Good manager, 48% win ratio for us. I personally felt pride watching his team from 2000-2004 which often had 5 Bristolians sometimes 7, playing attractive football.

Castigated for the play off disater, but it was one mistake and he was steadily building and improving each season.

Persuaded by Brian "trust me on Tins" Tinnion that Danny was a wrong un. What might have been.

    Gary Johnson

    Good manager, good apppointment.

Victim of his own nepotism which Lansdown should have stepped in and sorted but didn't, culminating in that incident at Plymouth.

    Steve Coppell

The coup that never was. Allegedly realised the owner would be a meddler and left with his bags before even unpacking them.

    Steve Cotterill

What can you say. Don't need to. Except, shafted. Should have been supported but by then nepo boy was on the horizon and Crayon Boy was his mate, and so it came to pass that a managerial imbecile with a win rate of 37% in the 3rd division was showered with gifts in the Championship.

    Nigel Pearson

Achieved different things in different ways. On paper, given mediocre results, unprecedented support from a fan base that recognised what he was doing and had done. Treated disgraefully, replaced though by a manager who apparently would get the most out of our "top 6 quality" squad.

    And so now Liam Manning.

Didn't want him, hard to warm to him. And yet. Win rate of 48% at Lommel, MK and Oxford. 29% for us. Why? Is the step up too much? Has Crayon Boy put too much expectation on him? Will he come good?

    Is there hope?

So tainted with you bias opinion to match an agenda

Gary Johnson, great lower division manager, agree about nepotism, but his management style was to bully, which you can only get away with up to a certain level

Lee Johnson, never liked him as a player, but done OK as a manager, just stuck with him too long which is often SL's way

You missed Holden - I never believe the story about how he was appointed, always think we had someone lined up which eventually fell thru

Steve Cotterill - my favorite manager along with Nige, but cotts went all gung ho wanting to sign players on massive money which I remember SL said he would back, but they did not come off

Nige, the truth is none of us really know why he was sacked, it was certainly not the reasons given, which suggests some sort of cover story. The breakdown had obviously gone on for some time, hence the nestegg statement by SL as cleary did not want to give NP the Scott funds, maybe there is a very good reason why he was sacked, one that most businesses would have done the same thing, the problem is we can only see 1 side, that is a popular manager sacked for apparently no reason as what was said did not add up. Whilst a lot of things can be said about SL, sacking someone for the sake of it if they could see he was doing a good job and harming their club and investment, makes no sense.

LM - I was hoping for Eustace, but we don't know if we approached him and it did not happen, but ending up with Manning, my concern always was if we hit a bad run would the players trust his vision due to lack of experience, hopefully he turns it around quickly and becomes a great manager as showed some early promise, but that looks a long way off and fear a few more losses and dragged into a relegation fight will need a change

His lack of passion is part of the problem. If he's not fired up, you can hardly expect his team to give that extra effort.

Think you can add the fans to that, never known such a quiet tame atmosphere for a derby game, or perhaps blame the players performance, where were the blood and thunder tackles, maybe its  a chicken and egg question, do the players need to get the fans going or do the fans help to get the players going, either way its on a downward spiral, but easy to sit back and blame everyone else

  15. Excellent article and summed up what our group of season ticket holders were discussing.

No one had a bad game, Knight is a very good player, just not in that position, we are desperately missing Twine / creative player, as it been said we are generally OK to we get to the final 1/3 and lack creativity. Players seem to be bickering and not together, but maybe just part of bad results and not a internal bust up.

    also

Wet greasy pitch, need to have plenty of long shots that can get easily spilled

For all the talk of Conway not being given any ball, it was p1ss poor to be off side for the tap in when he had the whole line to look along

When LM first came in we were having lots of shots, but this has dried up and the ones we have had been low quality

Happy to go back to a 4 at the back

Ipswich we are just a likely to win or end in a heavy defeat
