    9 seasons of hope and little else, 9 seasons of stagnation, 9 seasons of cashing in on our best players, the latest window has brought in loaned players who wont be here next season and some young guns who may stopover on their journey to the south coast, or elsewhere;

While we well what? stay for another 9 seasons repeating,repeating...another manager...another bright hope another window etc.

Nothings changed same sh1te different season, another manager more hope spouted; season already written off as plans for the next window/season are rolled out.

Guess depends how long you have been watching and where your historical benchmark of city is, for most of my time, the average has been below our current level or yo-yoing between the 2 divisions. Completing against the gas, swindon  Plymouth etc, so being an established championship team to me is progress on the field and we can all agree massive progress off it.

It seems some can only be happy in the prem and whilst I would like us to get there, it does not prevent me enjoying us being competitive in the current division

Whether I phrased it right I’m not sure, but when I wrote:

My expectations of Nige (had he not been sacked) with the returning injured players was to consolidate top half and be in the mix.

I really meant expectations as in what I would measure his success or failure on, not meaning that’s the guarantee of what will happen.

So if Nige had us where LM has, I’d be criticising too.

We will never know though, but I think I’m pretty fair in setting my expectations / measures.

    Hope that makes

To a degree it's not surprising that Nige would have had us higher than where we are now, it would be the same players playing a system they have been coached for a long period.

We know LM is trying to change style and was always going to be difficult and maybe a gamble mid season, particularly as many believe we do not have the players to implement it.

The decision was obviously made early that Nige was not the future, hence given no money and Nest egg. Maybe the sacking was forced a bit by Nige bringing things to the fore, but even had he not been sacked he would have been gone in the summer.

Bringing in LM has at least given plenty of time to implement and develop the change in styles believed necessary for success. It has likely ruined this season, but equally the change could have worked and got us close to the play offs.

Whilst frustrated with results I am pleased we are planning and building, which has more chance of making next season successful than had it happened with only a pre season

I don’t think some of the frustrations on here are because we lost to Leeds last night!  For some it was a bit of the straw that broke the camel’s back!

Sorry Dave don't see how a loss that was not unexpected by many to a side aiming to go top 2 after 4 wins on the bounce could be the straw that broke the camels back. Accepted it was a poor performance but nowhere near as bad as 1st half against Birmingham and following a good showing at Coventry. To me it was weird, we started well and took the game to Leeds, until the Tanner incident and totally lost our way after.

This place is always so negative after a loss, some of which is fair and good discussion over shape and style, but some just ott nonsense for the sake of posting.

One key bit I would critique.

If we are seeking to play a more possession based game, is a back 3 better suited than a 4-3-3 or closer to a 4-3-3?

I'd suggest not. For us even less so.

I mentioned on the match day thread, we struggled under Nige until we swapped from a back 5 to a 4 and seems the same under LM, think someone said our last win was as a back 4?

Perhaps with players coming back from injury (skyes badly missed) and Twine will make the difference.

Trying to decide how we set up, when they are both back.

    McCrorie Vyner Dickie Pring

    Knight Williams TGH

    Skyes Conway Twine

Maybe harsh on Tanner, but see McCrorie a bit more aggressive, always like Nailsmith as a bit if a quarterback role in midfield when he is fit. Atkinson over Dickie could be a close one.

    Sh1t comment AGAIN

    See above.

What teams have been promoted from the Champ with a majority of the team made up of L1 buys + academy kids + tippy tap football.?

So what's you solution, go out and spend lots of money on top end Championship/ prem players? Think we tried that and Nige spent 2 years getting rid of them and had to sell Semenyo to avoid a points deduction.

We have good players that have come from the academy and L1, so are you really suggesting we get rid of them or stop trying to cherry pick some of the talent to develop. The team is a mix of younger and experienced players.

By tippy tippy, the fact we are trying to change from a team that played on the counter attack, instead trying to be the dominant side. Don't think anyone can pretend it's going to be easy to change particularly mid season, but it no good wetting your bed sheets and posting crap just because we lose to a good Leeds side.

But don't worry, buying L1 players and "improving them on the training ground" will see us alright when we turn into tippy tappy worldbeaters.

    @sh1t_ref_again

Name me the non parachute teams who've been promoted using mostly league 1 players and academy kids playing tippy tap football.

There are ways non parachute teams can compete at the top of the Championship - but it's not by doing this.

sh1t comment again incoming. Actually, don't bother, I've remembered you’re on ignore.

@Leabrook how about you tell me which teams have been removed using this strategy.

Typical nonsense reply and usual guff, moving the goal posts. I reacted to your pathetic post, we are not just buying  L1 players, we missed out on a highly rated player to Middlesbrough, brought in Twine and may make it permanent, stated we are after more players in the summer,

We have done some good business securing sought after lower league players to develop, althoufh Bird was an established Championship player. We will look to move on some of the older players who were brought in by Nige to establish a culture and change the dressing room, but they cannot go on forever.

But as usual your head is so far up your ass looking at your own agenda that sense is alien to you

Agree entirely, not a fair comparison. The issue is Mentality.....Leeds turned up with a Lion Mentality and we turned up with a Gazelle Mentality. Game was over before a ball was kicked.

The whole team were shocking to a man (minus MOL really).....coincidence that the transfer window closed midnight the day before?......realisation that there was no competition for places (outside of what exists already), no further career progression for those seeking it?.....if the season has been written off (as people on here are asserting) why would players be busting a gut to get a result?

Felt pretty low yesterday.....feel worse today.....this is supposed to be escapism from the stressors of life......just adding to a malaise of crap recently. Never felt so despondent.

    Rant over.

We did not start off like it, we took the game to them in the 1st 13 minutes, until Tanner took to long on the ball and got robbed, we survived and spend the next period penned back. It seemed to sap all our self belief or maybe raised Leeds. For my sins I watched the game back, we started well

  8. A few takes from last night

Started well, but seem to lose all confidence of passing after Tanner giving the ball away on 13 minutes

Conway and Wells as set up did not work and totally lost our LHS threat

Could not understand why Knight ended up further forward than Conway when defending, surely Knight as a midfielder should have been the 1 going deep. Like knight, but not good at the front midfielder

We were better once we made the subs

    Missed what Twine can offer.

We are not taking shots from outside the box, which had increased after LM first came in

Not convinced with the back 5 shape, we were no good under NP when we used it and only improved when changing to a back 4

Fatigue with playing so many games can be as much mental as physical, we seemed slow in the decision making and so many passing errors with moving the ball slower than we have been

Leeds are in fantastic form, with 5 wins on the bounce, going to be interesting who makes up the top 2 between them and Southampton

Very disappointed with performance, as poor as we have been for some time, after a good display at Coventry

28, ST since 6yrs old. Never felt this dis-engaged. "Manning ball" is awful anyone who disagrees is kidding themselves. Pearson should never have been sacked maybe not always pretty but played to our strengths and was effective. Thanks for the good times and the infrastructure but time to go Lansdown.

Why should we be in awe of Leeds and accept they are better?  That’s exactly the type of mindset that’s held this club back for the last 40 years

Thinks it's more on reflection after a defeat, the acceptance that we played a team worth 200+m more than ours

But we did compete with them in October. Yesterday we just rolled over for our bellies to be tickled. That's why so much negativity. We are regressing.

Leeds were poor early in the season, have now just won 5 on the bounce and up to 2nd

  11. Thought we started well, until the game changed after Tanner taking to long on the ball and robbed, we just seemed to lose belief and any bravery to move the ball quickly with Leeds fast press.

Tommy playing left did not work and lost any of our out ball via Pring as could not combine.

Williams like many worse game for a while, perhaps to many games in quick sucession catching up with them.

Improved slightly after subs, but Leeds a class above on tonight showing,

  12. I don't care what the usual doom and gloom Otib merchants think, I like the look of him and excited we get the benefit of seeing how he manages championship football before we take up the option. The same doom and groomers moaning about boring football, well he looks the type of player that can get fans off there seats, but no doubt they will find something negative as they like the sound of there own dull voices

I mean I’m not averse to criticising the hierarchy but signing a player BEFORE your competition gets in a few months down the line is a bit of a soft stick to beat the club with. Bearing in mind that two players we were after in the last fortnight signed for other Championship clubs. I’d say the hierarchy have been smart on this occasion.

Totally agree, as I said back on the thread, makes very good sense, if its a player we want, then get the business done. The 2.5m seems just a figure banded around for people to get up tight about, but would not be OTIB, if someone was not finding a negative to say
