  1. The decision to keep Simpson over him was a joke and in no way could have been in relation to performances on the pitch.

Getting rid of "obviously not deadwood" Lansbury and replacing him injury prone has beens was also an error.

    False economy.

Not just saying it in hindsight I said it at the time.

Oddly, i don't think it's the defence itself that's the issue per se. I've had this conversation elsewhere, but it's midfield and lack of constant possession that's the problem meaning we get under seige, alot of the time.

Considering that the defenders themselves do pretty well. Kalas had been playing with an injury for a long time and, since then, Bents in goal and some woeful finishing has kept scores down in the main.

Organisation wasnt ever the issue, barring maybe corners.

You can only have so much pressure before conceding no matter how much the defence is good or not.

Massengo Scott and a 'screener' work well but we rarely see it at the moment.

We have been poorly organised and drilled defensively as a TEAM for most of the season.

The constant blaming of individuals is a nice deflection but you don't have to be a highly qualified coach to have seen the lack of any organisation when we don't have the ball. leading to our defenders having to defend in "Alamo", last ditch style for long periods of games and in that scenario eventually some individual mistakes are bound to happen.

Better coaching and a decent defensive midfielder (Ben Pearson like) would help immensely.

We need to sort the defence yes, and that is probably the priority. However we musn't rest on our laurels regarding attack.

If you look at the last ten matches then you see the only games in which we've registered 10 or more shots are against Barnsley, Birmingham, Peterborough and Derby. Derby is the only game where we managed more than 15 shots, with more than 5 on target. Against better teams we are struggling to create a large number of chances, and rely on our good finishing to get our goals.

Similarly, I'd urge anyone expecting a second 20 goal season from Weimann to reconsider. He's more likely to regress to a performance in line with his career averages so far. Those figures suggest that 12-15 is a more likely goal total than 20. Still respectable, buy not the exceptional performance we've seen this year. Another 20 is possible, but it's not probable.

Add in the possibility of Semenyo leaving, and Martin not getting younger, and I think we need to keep trying to improve in attack as well as defence.

Academic because Weimann will be scoring 20 goals for a different team in all probability.

It’s possible to get rid of most players if the price is right. For example, Nagy was given away. With the high earners at City a free transfer with a pay off, of part of their remaining salary, would encourage them to leave. It would mean a short term outlay  by City to be balanced by a longer term salary saving. Probably not much of an overall saving, but better than nothing. With the payoff players would be more receptive to accept a lower salary offer from other clubs. I’m sure there are clubs, at some level, who would take Palmer, Wells and Vyner if they can sign them on a relatively cheap package.

The players have to agree, can't force a loan or sale to somewhere they don't want to go.

Nagy wanted out and a return to Italy.

Bakinson wanted out, handed in a transfer request last Summer.

  5. Our organisation, tactics and performance versus Peterborough would have made us the worse team in the League let alone the Division.

Opposition coaches must have a field day when studying how we organise when without the ball.

Much improved in the last 2 games happy to concede. Changes were made after the Posh debacle for sure.

Anyone else watched the pre match press conference with NP?

It may well be a strategic comment for potential interest but not quite what I wanted to hear after months of comments about players moving on.

May mean nothing ultimately but there are quite a few who simply aren’t good enough and need to move on and a couple of others we probably need to sell to finance improvements.

Well he has been unable (on the whole) to get the best out of this squad,  we have underachieved.

If he is unable to change the squad significantly and bring in players who buy into his apparent philosophy then we are bang in trouble.

Looks like another year of "not on the bus" and "they".

If Derby put out this team v us and you ignore finances / points deduction etc

    Roos

    Byrne / Jagielka / Davies / Buchanan

    Knight / Shinnie / Bird

    Eboseke / CKR / Lawrence

Subs (from): Morrison, Joswiak, Stearman, Marshall, Sibley, Forsyth etc

might you argue that’s better than City?  I didn’t include Bielik.

All about opinions though, but I think that’s a tad stronger than us….not much, admittedly….but I don’t think it’s weak either.  Bottom end of middle-eight, just like us.

                             Bentley

           Kakas     Klose     Baker     DaSilva

              HNM     James     Williams

          Weimann     Martin     Semenyo

    Subs.

    from.

Oleary, Atkinson, Tanner, Pring, King, Bakinson, ODowda, Wells, Palmer. Scott, Benarous etc

We have a stronger squad them them for sure.

You know it, I know it.

Your obsession with pretending that our squad is weaker than it is to suit a narrative is embarrassing.

You actually said that Luton have a better squad than us FFS !!

Regardless of Derby we have a solid mid table Championship squad and have underperformed this season.

No "Nadine Dorries" style defence can hide that.

Lj did a decent job here, there is no denying that,

He however isn't the person to take the club forward,

The players won't want it the fans don't want it,

And those 2 are kind of essential to a football club,

    No thank you

Talked to many players lately ? otherwise just a guess.

Certainly on this forum most wouldn't want LJ back and are in full "Nadine Doris mode" in relation to the current Manager.

But in the "real world" of football fans not so sure.

I couldn’t handle the LJ interviews and press conferences again.

I’ve since realised that, for me, his time in charge was like being caught in a rip. You ignore the warning signs, think everything’s fine, then suddenly realise you’re miles away from where you should be and are absolutely f**ked.

    Sounds familiar

I read that McAllister was watching the u23s the other week, I would not be surprised to see him come back to coach them given Alex Ball’s promotion to first team coach.

His son plays in the Academy (very decent player) so maybe not connected.

They are actively recruiting ex players though- Bell and Hewlett for example.

  12. Not going today but continue the organisation and game plan from the second half versus Stoke and we have a decent chance.

    predicted -

                                     Bentley

                    Cundy     Atkinson     Klose

        Scott                                                DaSilva

                             HNM     James

                                  Weimann

                         Wells               Martin

    2-1 win.

They certainly were rubbish at it,, but when they are going to the owner saying steve we really need marley watkins/ an other, why were alarm bells not ringing enough to ask what the plan was for this signing?

im not a fan of nige but when he came out and said the plan of selling your best players is crap he hit the nail on the head,, our recruitment is pathetic anyway, but youd need a 50% success rate for that to work financially, and thats without considering the effect on results of selling your best players all the time.

for a webster or brownhill theres 6/7 or more brought in who cost fees/ agents fees/ signing on fees/ wages who just werent up to it.

You have to factor in the players desire to leave.

Webster and Brownhill for example were offered Premier League Football.

Far to easy to say we shouldn't be selling our best players.

The reinvestment was poor overall though I agree.

    £57.800m spent (22 players)

    £29.000m recouped (10 players) - minus sell-ons, e.g. Webster’s sell-on to Ipswich reduces this amount.

    (filtered on players £1m+)

Can have a right royal debate on how many are / were a success.

    Guess, two main lenses:

    - on the pitch

    - financial (inc wages etc)

    ???

(For info, I’ve recently realigned some fees by going back to the club accounts, so they are in a reasonable ball-park).

The club made £26.20 million in PROFIT on transfer fees during this time period and several of the players signed are still at the club and have value.

We have paid and received loan fees of course.

So lets knock it down to £20 million in PROFIT with Kalas, Bentley, HNM, DaSilva  and Weimann with value in the transfer market.

Need to look at transfers as a whole not pick and chose to suit agenda.

  15. 2016/17

    Transfers paid - £11.34 million

    Transfers received - £12.80 million

    2017/2018

    Transfers paid - £12.09 million

    Transfers received - £2.97 million

    2018/2019

    Transfer paid - £9.14 million

    Transfers received - £26.55 million

    2019/2020

    Transfers paid - £29.66 million

    Transfers received - £43.86 million

    2020/2021

    Transfers paid - £0

    Transfers received - £3.69 million

    2021/2022

    Transfers paid  - £1.44 million

    Transfers received - £0

    Total over the period =

    Transfers paid - £63.67 million

    Transfers received - £89.87 million

    * A Transfer fee PROFIT of £26.20 million. *

Obviously we paid and received loan fees not counted.

We also have several first team players still at the club who are of considerable value signed during this time.

This figure conveniently missed out on virtually every spreadsheet I see on here.
