Been going since Wilson was in charge. We played great football under him, just couldn't get over the line. In truth we just were not good enough in that era to get promoted. League 1 was tough back then and money was being chucked about by other clubs stupidly like Wigan, Cardiff, QPR, Stoke etc.

It is obviously all about preferences really and styles. Wilson was no where near as good as Cotterill and GJ, but to me on a par with LJ - Who spent millions at his time at the club and achieved nothing.

On Gary Johnson. Everything was great until January 2008 when he decided to bring in a big CF and we stopped playing our progressive high tempo passing football. It was downhill from then on, we should have gone up automatically but that is down to how good he was at that time for us. Unfortunately after the PO final defeat he made many errors in the transfer market and on player contracts which messed the club up long term for a few years after he left which kind of tarnished his great work, for me.

Cotterill couldn't adapt to the Championship and if he had changed from a 352 to a 442 history could have been different, but he wouldn't change and was stubborn.

Lee Johnson spent more money than any other manager I have known in my time following City and we didn't achieve anything, much like Danny Wilson's sides. I never actually thought the football under LJ was attractive aside from the early 17/18 season, which is a small percentage of his reign.

I’m not sure how he could tarnish it every manager since Gary has fed off the belief and appetite he installed in our club ,fan base and chairman! We still sing bounce around the ground and up until recently we always believe

Im not sure how 2 10th place finishes can be seen as failure after almost a decade in the league below. We are a bigger club now than we were in 2008 and that’s because Gary kept us competitive for 2 seasons after that play off season. In the old Ashton Gate against the clubs we were competing with what did we expect? Who could we have signed?

Doomed to fail should have left us when he was on the up was his only mistake.

The one thing I will add, because it always comes up, no one was really "surprised" that he was let go. He was in year 4 of a 3 year plan, he had tried a very attacking style, then he tried tempering it with a more defensive style. In my opinion some terrible football was played toward the end of his reign, with 2 full backs in midfield and long ball tactics, we spent long periods of games waiting for a Tinnion 50 yarder or a Bell free kick.

But we never looked any further forward, we didn't progress beyond being a big fish in a small pond, so much money for that level wasted to a great extent, people moan about the amount of money LJ had at his disposal, but on a Third league scale at the time, we were ******* Man City. We should have pissed it at least one of the seasons he had.

I remember some managers at that level referring to us as the Chelsea of Division 2 in 2003

Cotts then GJ for me. Both achieved promotion/won things for us. Something Wilson never did. Wilson will be remembered as a ‘nearly manager’ for me certainly not a ‘proper’ manager.. anyone that says anything different is a trolling *** ?

Cotterill can’t be held above Johnson.

Automatically promoted from League 1 in first full season after 9 years in that division with No Flint , No Jet, No Bryan he built his own spine and rejuvenated some deadwood.

Then Championship finishes in full seasons 4th (play off final), 10th, 10th

He also would have won the Johnstones paint Trophy for us (which means little)in the promotion season if we didn’t have to play a local derby against our little club rival in the game of their lives with a future England international and Liverpool striker up front ?‍♂️

Cotterill won League 1 but I mean better than Gary for us ???

You didn't get a buzz after the Palace play off matches? The extra time win at home is right up there.

For me it was the satisfaction of that first promotion I experienced as a football fan against Rotherham after being subjected to spending so many years watching division 3 football ! That was a buzz

Is anyone actually concerned we could lose NP if/ when Leicester give Rodgers the boot? It would be a real kick In the gut.

I wouldn’t be supprised  he did it to Hull Football is about making what you can when the opportunity arises as a manager and a player! Only loyalty in football is from supporters

Tininion was a left sided midfielder, he use to be a left back, he only played centrally once his legs started to go

Anyone who watched city between 02-04 should know City would have been at there best with Doherty and Tinnion in the middle we dropped a lot of points to teams teams like Colchester, Chesterfield by playing Doherty and Brunell every week in the middle.

If Wilson, Johnson and Cotts looked back on their time here. 2 will look back with pride for their fantastic achievements, and that 2 wouldn't include Danny Wilson.

He didn’t even leave any legacy signings or youth, played the best cm in the league (Tinnion) on the left wing at every opportunity and held Leroy Lita in the reserves when he could have secured us 2nd place in 03-04 season if played in certain games 1-1 draws at home to relegated clubs that season stand out .

Oh my post wasn't a dig at GJ at all, it was praising him! I'm a huge fan of his and without him we wouldn't be where we are as a club. But I still stand by what I said about Pearson - ex-Premier League with a Championship under his belt. Gary Johnson was a top manager for us but he's not of the same calibre as Pearson imo.

Appreciated you acknowledge he’s a good manager but Pearsons job opportunities or clubs managed have been at a greater size to Gary.

Our style of play and use of youth ultimately if it brings us success will have Pearson in a higher position in my mind, but there are different ways to get to success and Johnson’s style got us and Yeovil to heights we could only dream of…Pearson has not got us placed above 17th yet those are the facts!!!

He will I’m sure but let’s not jump the gun

Shades of Gary Johnson here as well to be fair. Pearson is lightyears ahead of GJ, but we shouldn't underestimate the culture change that GJ implemented, and one that we desperately needed. Filtering out the crap and replacing them with good eggs that put the club in a better position than before. Exactly the same as Nige is doing.

Wilson was a good bloke and a good manager, but ultimately what cost him is probably that particular skill which both GJ and NP exhibit.

Let’s not forget we are 8 games in and 4th Gary Johnson took us to the Championship after 9 years in League 1 and a 4th place finish followed by 2 consecutive 10th place championship finishes….

Some peoples memories are different to reality and Pearson is not light years ahead of Johnson. Granted you acknowledged GJ is a very good manager.

GJ biggest fault was sticking with us when his stock was high and taking jobs with smaller clubs after leaving us instead of waiting for a decent job playing football politically as managers normally do. He took the first jobs that came up and ultimately his stock fell.

Stiil got Yeovil to the Championship though an incredible achievement perhaps greater than our play off final appearance.

Why some fans deny Gary his due respect will always baffle me

He is indeed and after 1.5 seasons he’s gradually turning us into a formidable outfit - just as he did at Leicester. I said when he signed the 3 year contract  that’s Nige is the first proper manager since Danny Wilson, both with promotion on their CV

What doesn’t help tho is when Invisible Jon says he was disappointed with last season……….jeez………:disapointed2se:

That said maybe the invisible man hadn’t realised what an absolute shambles that Nige inherited and if that true then he was well and truly conned by smarmy Ashton.

First proper manager since Danny Wilson ?????

How many "appearances" were a couple of minutes in length contributed to Carey's total? Especially the one that allegedly took him beyond Atyeo. Two minutes at most!

Your delusional if you think that he will be here longer than one more season and that last season will have to be a Premier League season otherwise he’s off in January or the summer

Dele plays one role. A false 10. He needs two other midfielders to carry him. Now sure, he has an attitude problem, but his inability to play as a 8 has really done him in.

I think the Premier League style of play has simply changed and the style Ali plays is not suited.

I think questions over attitude are over blown and the Premier League quality and style is so much quicker and every team has to press defend from the from that was never Ali’s game…?‍♂️I think in a different league we will see his quality more simply not suited to the top level in England

Do you need a vpn to view this? Can’t believe Robins TV stopped the VPN trick to be able to get a £10 viewing pass, like anything good in this world when the masses find out and overwhelm good things will be taken away, why can’t those in the know just stay silent like the government…then I could just pay £10 and watch Blackburn City

Well I am surprised no one came in for Semenyo at a figure we would trade at. I thought he would be bargain £15m-£20m for a midtable Prem team like Palace.

Seems risky for us to keep him from an FFP perspective especially considering we have plenty of other decent strikers.

I’m supprised he hasn’t gone I assume without the recession he would have gone tonight

The issue for me is can Conway and Semenyo play together and build a partnership? It’s not always just about who are the best players. Those two plus Wells looks exciting, but does feel somewhat unbalanced.

A great advantage Conway has had is playing so often alongside Wells in the U23s, so they kind of click. With 5 subs allowed and no doubt injuries at some stage, rotation is going to be key anyway.

Conway has to be dropped simple IMO Semenyo is undroppable at this time

Everyone saying Semenyo over Wells is the call, I would say otherwise.

Still a day to go in the window, as unlikely as it is, all it takes is for a low table premier league team to pick up the phone and hes gone. Playing Nakhi will help keep his morale, he could feel replaced when hes had a decent run of form (give or take only one goal) but still.

    My Team -

                               Bents

    Sykes  Vyner Naismith Atkinson Dasilva

                     Scott          Williams

                            Weimann

                     Wells          Conway

Wells is finally starting to play like the striker we intended to sign may well yet end up justifying his transfer fee if we have a successful season this year

A lot of people on here did not see Wieman as a 20 goal man in a million years
