Nigel Pearson took on a mammoth job.
Honestly, how many reputable managers would have put their reputations on the line with the instruction that they would have no competitive money to spend and instead blood youngster from the academy in what is one of the most competitive leagues in world football?
Coppell wasn’t prepared to do it, Hughton wasn’t prepared to do it and yet Nigel Pearson took on the challenge whilst not realising just how bad things really were until he began working with the club.
He has worked within tremendously difficult financial constraints and he has also worked to change the culture within the team.
It doesn’t matter if you are a star name or not. It doesn’t matter if you have played well and then had a couple of bad games. It doesn’t matter if you have fallen out of favour for a while. If you can show commitment to the cause you will get another opportunity to stake a claim for a place in the starting lineup.
He is not afraid to stand up for what he believes in and he comes across as a very authentic person. Love him or loathe him he is true to his words and he doesn’t hide in press conferences either and is clear in his post match views. There is no bamboozling with scientific garbage, just an honest pure footballing assessment. He calls it out and he doesn’t hide. He has the respect of his players.
Even the fans are onside with NP now that they can see that it takes time to turn things around. We are competitive in matches for the first time in a long long time and whilst inevitably mistakes are made on the pitch that happens in football whoever is in charge.
We don’t go on 8 game losing streaks with NP.
If SL / JL or whoever cannot appreciate the immense job that NP has done then I’m afraid they don’t deserve him. I cannot think of any manager who would have taken the job under those circumstances and made such a compelling case to be offered a new contract?
There will be many a raised eyebrow if we don’t secure his services and not just from inside the club.
I cannot get my head round why the issue hasn’t been discussed when the good work that he has done is so abundantly clear to almost everyone?
Really good post, spot on.

But you would agree that overall, his injury record with us makes for sad reading?
As was previously explained his present injury is a contact injury, something that can happen at anytime. This season he’s played every game.
He had a career threatening injury previously, which he seems to now have overcome, my concern is more that although over that injury it does seem to have affected his game, he doesn’t seem the player he was before.

"Best manager this club has ever had" is quite an overstatement.
He HAS cleared up the mess left by the Lansdown indulged Lee Johnson & Mark Ashton and maintained Championship status but from an achievement perspective he's behind Dicks, Jordan and GJ in my book.
Agreed, maybe best recent manager would be more accurate, the ones you list are from years ago.

The pitch was a mess from all of the recent rain and rugby and what were they doung 15 minutes before the game? Watering it when it clearly needed drying out.
I thought the same, I assume the ground staff are professional so should know better than me.

Best header of a ball I’ve ever seen, he seemed to get up early and kind of head it on the way down, sort of like a badminton smash, this technique made him difficult to mark. Also was surprisingly quick, and could use both feet. What a player.

Affordable houses are on the developers initial plans in order to gain approval, they are often either dropped altogether later on, or their numbers greatly reduced, as they cut into the developers profit margins.

I think it means we did a good job of holding out for what we thought he was worth. Multiple reports suggested loads of clubs would have been interested if he were priced lower. Annoyed though I am that we didn’t use more of the funds, we did a good job of sticking to our guns on his value.
Or maybe it was his agent suggesting there was interest when there wasn’t.

It seems ETM have gone all in with the hope that the potential added costs of delays, mean they stump up for the roof. I don't think he will.
ETM's objections are the same ones as were turned down before, chancers.Or that it’ll go to a JR, which could take months or years and hoping Bristol Sport will pull out altogether. More houses around them would prevent them extending in the future. It would also highlight any flouting of existing agreements.

It'll either be chucked out by the judge in a few weeks, or accepted to go to hearing which would take months, maybe years.
Sounds likely if it doesn’t get thrown out by the judge it’ll be dropped. Unlikely SL will want to wait years. As the original plan was amended to allow for ETM’s concerns you’d think it’ll be kicked out, but who knows nothing about planning in Bristol seems driven by logic.

I think your last sentence is key here. At least from what is in the public domain, Wolves were never a choice as there was never an acceptable offer on the table.
If Bournemouth was the only offer on the table does that suggest we overestimated his ability?. I thought he’d go to a mid-table club, not join Semenyo at Bournemouth.

The best outcome for us is that he shines at Bournemouth and they then get relegated as there is no way he'll play in the Championship.
Wouldn’t he be likely sold off cheaper if Bournemouth get relegated though, Surely we’d get more if he does well and Bournemouth stay up, being as we get a percentage of his sell on fee?

I care / am interested because he’s talented , was one of our players , but most of all is clearly a really decent lad , I like his reflection and appreciation on his time at City , and his Dad , and the more people like this that get on in life , The better
Said all the right things, but ultimately still left at the earliest opportunity. Good job Gow, Ritchie, Cheese etc weren’t as decent, or else we wouldn’t have been in the top flight in the 70’s either. Good luck to him, but I’d rather focus now on the players still here.

There was no way we’d be in the mix this season, the league is twice as strong as last season and we’d not have significantly strengthened - he has to take the chance when it presented itself imo, you never know what’s going to happen next
Have you looked at the table, we are 3 points off 6th, even that we’ve not had the best of starts, have played many of the top teams as well. Not saying we will, but equally it’s not a given we couldn’t, especially with Scott in the team.

Money isn’t everything but unless he doesn’t play he’s in the shop window at a higher level
Which is why I said I imagine he’s looking to progress in two moves rather than one. I’d have preferred he stayed here another season, with the view to helping us gain promotion, and then gain premier league exposure with us next season. He could have moved in January if we weren’t in the hunt.

I’m not interested so why are we talking about it is a really weird point of view
On 4x the money he was here
Money isn’t everything, his long term future isn’t Bournemouth, he’s good enough to play at the a much higher level, a bit of patience and he could have moved to a better club imo, as it is I imagine he’s hoping to do it in two moves rather than one. He’s gone now so whilst I will hope for his sake he made the right move, I’m more interested in our players now.

Knob is a bit strong, but it is a bit petty.

For me it isn’t hindsight, Bournemouth were never a good choice. I understand the draw of the PL, both in terms of money, the chance to play at the highest level , and the opportunity of exposure, however Scott is good enough to go to a better club than Bournemouth who at present are at best a yo-yo club.

Nah, they’ll probably just turn it off and the footage will mysteriously go missing.

Strength in depth, or somehow, a FULL squad with no long term injuries

Just hope tomorrow isn’t the day all their new signings gel, it would just be our luck. We mustn’t allow them the chance to settle, we must be on the front foot from the start, like we did against Plymouth.

Stats can be made to show anything you want. Anyone got a stat for how many saves he's had to make as a result of his mistakes and/or giving the ball away himself
He's not good enough to be number 1, never had been and doubt he ever will be
Not as high I’d guess as Bents, how many of his saves were due to not commanding his area, not coming for crosses, or batting shots into the area rather than either catching them or deflecting them wide. If Max isn’t good enough for number 1, then neither was Bents.

Correct decision imo, would probably have been given if it was Vyner or Naismith though.

I didn’t realise that, I hope he’s not out long, the quicker the better, last thing we need is Zak out for a long period.
