Yesterday afternoon, the consensus of opinion was that we were going to get a hammering by an in form Coventry side who had far too much for us, our only decent player was out injured, and people were still pining for the previous Manager on every thread.

I then sat and watched an excellent display by the remaining players where they made the previously rampant Coventry side look average and got a deserved point. If not for a poor fumble from our otherwise excellent goalkeeper, we would have got all three.

I was a bit surprised to come on here and find that we seemed to have lost 0-5 at home to Rotherham and that every other player was out of their depth, even the ones who had put in previously excellent displays against Premiership opposition. 

Added to that we seem to have been infiltrated by a couple of keyboard warriors straight out of a Danny Dyer film, which makes everything seem even more surreal.

 

 

This is no less ridiculous than the over-negative reactions. Excellent my Arsenal! It was decent in parts, less so in others.

This has got somewhat lost amongst the rest of the debate about the ex players forum, but from the number of likes my request has received, I am not alone. Respectfully, I would say that the suggestion to move the loan thread was not a good one unless the intention was to kill it off. Please can it be moved back to the main forum. Thank you.

Goals in general were harder to come by in the 1970s when away teams tended to play for draws more in the days before 3 points for a win.

You mean like the Tom Ritchie thread that's, as I write top of the main forum and which, were it to have been posted in the sub-forum as it should have been, would have received a fraction of the attention?

These are often covered in a manager's contract and include (I'll paraphrase an actual clause from an EFL manager's contract) the right to use, in a club context, the manager's likeness in an electronic representation. For example a picture of him published on a club social media account.

That contract permits the club to use the manager's image during his employment. The presumption therefore is that when the employment ends so does the club's right to use the manager's image (unless a new or separate agreement is out in place).

First of all, apologies for the use of the word twaddle. That was uncalled for.

I am right though. It's something I have to know about for my work. A person who is photographed has no rights to prevent the photograph from being used except in very limited cases that don't apply here. How do you think paparazzi get away with what they do? Image rights in the UK generally relate to merchandise for sale and are predominantly protected by use of the doctrine of passing off. 

If such a clause exists in manager contracts, I can only assume that it is some kind of "belt and braces" wording. If football contracts are anything like those in the entertainment industry, they will certainly contain a lot of language that is superfluous.

It wasn't something specific about him, it was some comments from him on our game today and football in general. I would have thought that qualified as Football Chat. 

The move of the Nige thread, which was talking about the way the club is run, was equally baffling.

Why on earth has this been moved to the ex-players forum? Despite the title, the discussion is about the club and very definitely belongs in the main forum.

I think that would depend on the terms of any settlement or image rights agreement, the context of the use of that photo, and the attitude of the club and of our ex-manager.

Absolute twaddle. For starters, there is no statutory image right under UK law. None of the various methods used to try and enforce image rights (trade marks, copyright, passing off or performers rights) would prevent the club from posting online a photo in which they owned the copyright.

While we're at it, can we please move the loan thread back into the main forum? The move to the transfer sub forum has effectively killed off what was a useful and informative thread.

Friend who supports Bournekurh told me a little while ago he's settling in quite nicely and a full pre-season would help him. That said football moves fast and they have varied options up front and out wide.

The assist for the equaliser was fortuitous to say the least - a horribly miscued shot that took a deflection to Solanke. However, the Bournemouth fans were very impressed with his performance. Some random quotes from their forum:

Good point. I guess he could also decide to swallow the deficit to show that he really wants to be at Coventry.

Cornick? - jury's very much still out.

There were glimpses last season, but you can clearly see from the Torquay highlights why Cornick was bought and what he can potentially contribute. If he can be as effective against Championship defences (which admittedly remains to be seen),  I believe he will be an important part of the squad this coming season.

I was never a big fan of the premier league anyway but I simply don't watch it at all anymore because of VAR and the bias towards the "bigger" teams.
