Assuming Pearson sticks with the Weimann in behind Martin and Semenyo combination, then I do see a possible benefit in going 41212 diamond. At least then we can still have 3 midfielders compact if Weimann is up front.

It might bring other problems we have to deal with in wide areas. But it didn't look too bad against Barnsley first half before Pearson changed the system 2nd half that then made us worse imo.

    Good shout!

Why? General consensus is we're not going to go down this year so what's the benefit.

Personally I think Pearson knows he's got enough points on the board, and as such has started playing more youngsters and experimenting with what he hopes will next year become our actual and effective style of play. If we found ourselves in a relegation fight I think we would swap back to something safer - but if we can get reliable minutes at Championship level into our youngsters, and them playing in a more effective formation where they can enjoy their football and express themselves what's the downside?

I think he's given/giving Max a real fair go, Vyner a fair go, Jay, Scott, Semenyo, Pring, and so on - and I'm not sure if it were solely results we were after that'd be the case. Some will sink and some will swim, for quality or application reasons and this is the best time to find that out. It has downsides of course - but I think he accepts that a few Ws become Ds, and Ds become Ls - but at the end of the season that wont have any real effect on anything in my opinion. We're not going to miss out on the playoffs as a result or go down... maybe he'll lose his all important "He improved our league position year on year" line ;) It's more of the long term thinking.

Then why did he lose his rag in the post match interview?

Are you a troll?  It's totally false. The contrary may be true, because our players rarely go down/dive...whereas players of other teams do that (at least against us) and are often rewarded by referees.

Yes he is. Which is why I've blocked him. As a favour, I'd ask that you don't quote his posts in future. Thanks!

Not sure how criticism can qualify as personal or not but quick reminder that he has played more City games than anyone else at the club or on the pitch yesterday - Kalas the next is about 25 games behind him - and yet I know absolutely no one who can tell me anything meaningful he has done in all this time representing us.

Oh, and the manager yesterday saw fit to take him off after just 45 yesterday so I guess that must be personal too.

Your criticism comes across as personal because of the manner in which it is addressed. You appear to be merging into Headhunter.  That is not a good thing (IMHO).

Personally, I thought it was blatantly obvious that the substitution was more about getting Williams on the pitch than getting COD off. There were plenty of others that were underperforming.

COD is not a brilliant player. We might be able to get better for less money. He is certainly not above criticism, but he plays a role. The vitriol you bring to that criticism is what makes it appear personal.

Yes. But my point is 10th is not a crazy shout at all.

Indeed. I'm somewhere between the OP and the baying mob, Both opinions are reasonable IMHO. I'd probably lean toward the consensus that, in the circumstances, NP is doing okay (although certainly not much better*), but the pitchfork reaction to a dissenting opinion I find pretty abhorrent to be honest.

*I'm talking purely in terms of results. I acknowledge that there may be huge steps being taken behind the scenes that I am unaware of.

  6. Honestly, I don't think  he looked to be struggling with the physicality of the game. I certainly didn`t see him being bullied. The way I saw it, he made a couple of poor errors of judgment due to inexperience when left exposed by mistakes from more experienced teammates. Up until the first goal, I'd been pleasantly surprised at how well he was playing. Personally, I don't think he's that far off.

Prachuap Kihei Khan, just bought some land (with the Thai wife) to build on for retirement in a few years time, hear Chaing Mai is stunning,

we will have to form a Thai City supporters club!

Chiang Mai is great. Look me up if you ever make it  up this way. I sometimes get my local bar to put on City games, but they have limited screens and the locals are only interested in the Premier League. Need more City fans to be asking for the game.

I think so too but I will credit James for a better second half.

First half always felt like his intent was to turn and pass backwards even not under pressure.

Second half thought he found space better and looked for the forward pass when he could.

In fairness, there was an element of trolling the troll to my post. However, I did think we missed Bakinson's calmness, positional discipline and attacking threat. Personally, I'd have liked to see him in place of either Weimann or HNM.

Financially I don't think it necessarily would. Unless they bid crazy amounts that the mid table prem teams can't afford.

If the biggest clubs were to bid the same amount as a mid table prem side and he went to one of those biggest clubs then we'd likely lose out on a future percentage of transfer profit.

Financially, you are probably be right. I was thinking more in terms of self-esteem. It's kind of depressing (to me at least) that those three teams are considered to be 'top clubs'  compared to us. And that's from  someone whose second team, for bizarre familial and historical  reasons, is Burnley.

…….and we let them have it. Few of the tactical geniuses on here seem to have grasped that. That’s why the first half was 5 shots to NIL in our favour despite 35% possession whatever that means these days.

As I mentioned up-thread, it reminded me of the way Leicester won the Premier League. Given that we are never going to match the resources of the parachute clubs, and are unlikely to be able to afford a team capable of dominating games it seems to me like a valid tactical approach. I'd like to see us persist with it. Sod the possession stats.

  11. Slightly surprised at some of the negative comments on here tonight. First half, I thought we saw how Nige wants us to play. Yes, they had more possession, but we looked easily the most threatening, even (particularly) when they had the ball. It reminded me of the Leicester title winning team. Second half, energy levels dropped off, but our shape was generally solid. I don't remember them having a clear cut chance all game. Thought the subs all did pretty well. Personally, would have gone for Benarous for Martin instead of James for Bakinson, but understand Nige's thinking. Overall, I think it was a decent performance.

Seemed to be playing left wing:

    ???

I don’t think our shape was that affected in fairness.  I thought we finished the game strongly and the subs helped.

Thanks. It's hard to get a good view of shape from the TV.

2nd half, when they pinned our WBs back:

Baker had just won a header, but Bakinson had covered for him.

Great pics, especially this last one. Did you take any after HNM came on? Impression I got was that our shape was less disciplined with him on the pitch, but hard to really tell from watching on the telly.
