  1. .... and if you're into trains and beer and have time there's the Transpennine Ale Trail: https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/lifestyle/food-and-drink/how-to-do-the-transpennine-real-ale-trail-3302516
  2. You could also have a cup of tea at the Wrinkled Stocking Cafe, which is very close to Nora Batty's steps. Agree though - Holmirth is a great little Town surrounded by fantastic countryside and well worth a visit.
  3. Have we not had a penalty at home? (Seems like it, even if it isn't true).
  4. The other thing about us is that we don't have many close fixtures, at least nothing like some areas. If that table was on man-miles travelled (I know that's a very nerdy idea) then I'm sure we'd be much higher. All credit to those that travel regularly - very expensve and not at all easy. Well done chaps and chapesses - the team certainly appreciate your efforts!
  5. It is known that it was around now. He was baptised on the 26th,.at a time when people were baptised shortly after birth. That said, it is always celebrated today. What is definitely known is that Shakespeare died on the 23rd April. History does not record whether Shakespeare had opened his presents or blown his candles out before he died.
  6. But maybe this sort of scheme would persuade more to buy season tickets. (Although I can imagine a club trying to shift available seats ahead of buy back seats).

    Downsy

All a bit 'Dog Day Afternoon'. Does anybody know whether Downsy was one of the Coldseal pigs?
  8. He was rushing out against Stoke, sweeper/goalkeeper style. I imagine NP has asked him to play that way. Trouble is that it's not normal for him and he doesn't always pick the right moment - it will come though. At times put me in mind of playing with rush goalies as a kid...
  9. Yup, certainly have. One of these years it will happen, just need to keep the faith until then. I also play golf very badly, so it's high quality sport all the way for me...
  10. Then again, if Derby and Reading hadn't got the players they managed to keep though financial rule breaking where would they be? Much worse off I reckon. Nigel Pearson has managed to get through the season with no threat of the drop whilst slashing costs. Unfortunately for us it looks like he'll have repeat the trick next year. Well done to him - think we're in very good hands and I hope he's here for the opportunity to build a competitive team.
  11. I stopped ready at the point the OP said that NP let Fammy go on a free. Came back to it a bit later to see whether the rest was as bad. Wall to wall twaddle with a transparent agenda.
  12. Ha! Never forget that It's American, so that word means something else. You sometimes get words like color and savor on Wordle - always worth bearing in mind. I once remember watching some US TV programme with my mother. One of the characters said that she liked it when her husband patted her on the fanny. The expression on my poor mother's face was priceless...

    Passive

One of the little noticed factors has been the departure of Keith Dawe. Not a man for public displays, but quietly, sensibly and competently going about his business under the radar. When SL went to Guernsey Keith Dawe has there to keep an eye on things for Steve and be a mentor for JL. Not sure of how Keith's health is these days but think we've definitely missed him and could do with someone similar as Chairman (if not the man himself).

Agree with all that, but why on earth should anyone put money into the club if SL is still the final decision maker? And, by the way, what would they by putting money in? Just football? Just the ground? Bristol Sport? Bears? Basketball? The thing seems to be unsaleble to me as a whole and the individual sports elements uninvestable. A gurt mess...

Yup, and he ain't wrong. Can't believe the Owner and Hereditary Chairman are going to take too kindly to it though. We might be in the end game for Nigel Pearson now. Rinse and repeat.
  16. Amazing career. I've got a friend called David Cotton. His email address is david.cotton@...etc. Always made me smile anyway...
  17. Thanks, excellent as normal. Re the teaser: Huddersfield. You never said human body parts.
  18. I haven't looked, but it must be a club that that have beaten the likes of Harrogate, Sutton and Saltford. Probably a club with a long history that's been in all of the top 5 divisions but with recent time way down low. I'm guessing Luton Town.
  19. You are right, it did hit the post. I remember Basso coming out, offering a handshake to Watson, blessing him, taking an age to get back to his line and then stopping to offer up a prayer. Am fairly sure all this didn't exactly help Watson. Incidentally, it was later reported that he said that he had prayed to Holy Ghost, who had apparently told him to go to his right. No ordinary bloke was Basso.
  20. There was the penalty in the semi play off final though... And, lest we forget, he did a lot to help turn round Bradley Orr when he was going through bad times. That whole team were legends in my eyes and Basso was a key part of it.. it was a a time when all the players and supporters seemed together. Great days.
  21. You can also see the match on BBC iPlayer, which covers S4C.
  22. Yup, loads to be recommended around there. Culloden, Nessie and, as you say, stunning scenery. I've occasionally seen someone in the Dolman who wears a Callie wooly hat. Possibly considered summer-wear in Inverness.
  23. Hell's bells, that's some list. Well done for winning the argument, but I'd been trying to forget that lot - thanks a bunch!
  24. Terrible news, a complete shock. The finest leg spinner ever, IMO. RIP Warney - it was a pleasure to see you play.
