  1. Not much of interest to me in this article. Wilson got sacked because he failed to get us promoted over a period of years despite large amounts of money spent. Indiscipline in the squad was a big problem and it grew under Wilson. Nothing in his career since his time with us would suggest we've missed anything. Admittedly his side could be entertaining, but ultimately it failed and Wilson's time was rightly up. That said, although I think Lita should have started in preference to journeymen like Roberts or Miller it wasn't the only reason we failed that day. Tinman, for example, has always made much of the Lira omission although he himself was totally invisible that day, eventually taken off. Have never heard Tinman or anyone else own up to their own poor performances that day - all much easier to hide behind the Lita decision.
  2. It looked like more of a red than a yellow to me. Lucky lad. Think their reaction/retaliation might have helped him a bit.
  3. Good luck to him in whatever's next. I certainly have many more good memories of his time with us than bad.
  4. Somebody told me that Nigel Pearson is now 4th longest serving manager in the Championship. Insane if true...
  5. Usually I hope we draw a good Prem team in the FA Cup 3rd round. There is no way I want to see Haaland playing our lot at the Gate. Carnage.
  6. Sorry, can't find anything. Maybe someone on here has the programme or a better memory but that's as much as I can remember. Think it was 1999 but could be a year out one way or the other.
  7. He did score two in a 'reserve' game vs Man Utd. The game had been heavily advertised as a reserve game and a large crowd turned out. In the event United sent a youth team plus Wes Brown and we won 3-2. Bo Andersonn was in goal and let in a very soft goal in front of the Atyeo. That was the last time I believed anything our marketing department said.
  8. Even if Bentley then gives it to Naismith and he then ... (well, you know the rest)?
  9. The betting odds at the start of the season had us heading for relegation. We're one of those clubs that doesn't have a great history and are flying well under the radar. Even now people think we're a poor side having a good blip. We've got some very good players and are where we are on merit. More than that, if that idiot ref at Hull.had been competent we'd now be in 2nd. City are a good value bet at the moment...
  10. Actually, a question for the Norwich game: The Queen is being brought down to Buckingham Palace tomorrow evening. Wednesday will be the day that she will be moved to Westminster Hall for the lying in state I imagine that of those driving will normally go via the M25, when London bound travel is likely to be hell on wheels. So, questions: Would you prefer a postponement? Will you still go even if it's on? Never been to Norwich but thinking about it this time. Maybe the M5 option and then across will be better than the M25 route. Interested in any thoughts from experienced folk.
  11. Quite honestly I don't get some of outrage about the postponement of one game in what are sad times for the country. The way some talk it's as though their human rights have been abolished. By the time the Norwich and Burnley games roll round all this will be forgotten - a very small blip in life's journey. Personally I'm a lot more annoyed about the World Cup for any number of reasons. I would add to that fixtures being reorganised to suit Sky, bubble games, ticket prices, anything to do with the Premiership and the very existence of Bristol Rovers and their appalling excuse of a manager. That's me done for now, sorry about the rant - might go and lie in a dark room for a whole.
  12. I would hope that UEFA would be sympathetic to requests from any nation with 'special circumstances', not just us.
  13. Think there's bigger things going on at the moment, and clearly logistics are going to be very stretched around London. Am fairly sure thay even UEFA aren't sufficiently dense to be insisting on forfeits, but who knows. BTW, as massive numbers of people start going to London for the lying in state and funeral don't be surprised if police forces up and down the country send officers to help. All sorts of fixtures could be affected, not just those in London.
  14. Would you extend the same choice to players, ground staff, transport workers, people in hospitality etc etc? Or should they all be working so that you can go to football?
  15. Just seen it. Unbelievable. If he still has a job by the weekend I will be amazed.
  16. Excellent stuff Jerseybean, as always. A couple of other bits of trivia from someone born up there: - Town's first Yorkshire Terrier mascot was called Skippy. - Before they adopted the Giant name and moved ground the rugby league team played at Fartown, a district of Huddersfield. The team were known as the Fartowners and were regularly described as that in the Huddersfield Examiner. Of course, everybody I knew pronounced it Fart-owners. Hilarious stuff to young lads in Huddersfield. (We were simple people).
  17. Today we have a +2 goal difference. Think the last time we had that was a couple of years ago when Holden made his good start to the season. Onwards and upwards...
  18. Maybe the Highways Agency wanted their cone back...
  19. I know of a man who seems able to stitch together a club purchase on behalf of Americans and has excellent contacts with the Lansdowns. He would even be prepared to run the club as CEO for the new owners. Welcome back Mark Ashton. Good night all, sweet dreams....
  20. Is it because a small number of them behave like total Richardheads? Flares, bottles etc - it needs to stop and when it does maybe restrictions might relax. Reading through this some still don't seem to get the basic truth - using flares in a football ground isn't allowed. Simple.
